The CrudCast

Here's the concept:

A monthly half hour webcast made by and featuring the members of the Crudcatcher.

"segments" of 5 or so mins are assigned to a Crudite and when the film is ready they email it in, and one of us edit's, finishes and brings it all together.

All idea's for segments are welcome, and all segments are considered for inclusion.

You do not have to be assigned a segment, you can just make one and send it in, alternatively you can put your name down and be given one to make.

It is purely non profit, and totally done for the laf's, it's like an open source tv show. Linux for bike show's.

Segment could include:

A local riding spot, a technical how to video, a classic CC argument, an animation, general bike related randomness, or anything that could be funny/may suit the show.

However it would have to be aimed at a family audience, so nothing "adult".

regular segment could include something like a CC member riding spot, a Sheeps and Yeha clinic and a featured bike. With a BOTY awards at the end of the year.

So, it's a concept, and those are my idea's.... Of course being "open source" it's entirely down to what ya'll think and nothing would be included without prior discussion.

If it was to happen a Sticky would provide an excellent place for show related discussion.

It would require a few people to make a small commitment of time every month, and would require hard work on the part's of many. BUT, if the support is there, and you are all up for it, then I say do it, I mean...

How hard can it be?!

So, The CrudCast?

you up for it?

:D

How's about I film myself removing my front brake, then trying to ride down a mountainside, to demonstrate that the FRONT brake is actually the one that's useful?

great idea's lads... keep em coming!

if you are serious about this... we need to start a thread where people can put themselves forward for roles... everyone can film... but we need someone who's pretty good at editing to take on that... it would only be an evening a month or something... but it would need to be good to tie all the individual segments together...

My spot would consist of a hidden camera scene
I walk into a bike shop posing as a middle aged MTB wannabe with zero diea about bikes, explain to the sales puppy I am looking for a mountain bike and tape the interaction
    Should be entertaining...

I'd do HOMBREScast, where I'm taught a new basic skill as I can't do basic skills, dressed as a mexican smoking a huge cigar, probably with hillarious consequences. Or startle a roadie by jumping out at them dressed like a mexican.

how about a show us your crash section for those vidding rides?

    redhead of the month

    Or have a smurf_matt Torqueshow

well... 30 mins in total, with an average of 5 mins per section... so about 5-6 sections, each would need to be put together and then put into the vid itself.

yeah... i suppose it prob would be more than just 1 evening... although you could have a few people working on it, working together...

i will do some filming as i have access to a broadcast quality HD camera and sound equipment

but as proved by some of my post i am actually a bit dull and therefore not worthy of being in front of afore mentioned camera.

on the subject of bacon, i shall be making a nice homemade doorstop BLY when i get home after tonights ride

My only concern is... Should I film myself crashing before or after I get my broken hand seen to?
If i have it fixed, then immediately hurt myself again, the doctors will confirm that I'm a muppet.
On the other hand, if I crash, and then get everything seen to at the same time, it should save time

before.... you can then host the rest of the series with a cast. - big sympathy win, then all the girls like you, then you dont even have to work hard to kidnap them... they come to you!!!

I'd be using terms like "springs on the back wheel" for rear shock and "front springs" for forks and "centre brakes" for disc brakes
I'd also talk about flying three foot in the air etc...
I'd claim to have a large budget of £3000 and also ask about muguards, lights, a bell (for an All Mountain MTB) to see how much of a muppett he takes me and my large budget for...

Rotor stoppers for disc brakes surely?
And asking if it's strong enough for drop offs like big kerbs.

    definitely...

I love the concept... you could then throw in another totally random bike into the mix and say "how does *inset bike* compare?

Don't refer to the disc brakes as anything. Just look at the fork legs and ask where the brakes are.

OK, so at least a few of you like the idea, and at least a few of you are willing to spend an hour or two in front of/behind a camera/editing computer.

So, if we'r gonna give it a bash we'r going to need to fill some spaces.

I'll list what I think we'll need and you can put yourself forward for the role, if there is more than one person up for it, you can either both do it, or we'll vote.

    We need:

An Overseer of production (someone to make sure everything goes where it needs to, and is finished on time)

A narrator/host. Not Yeeha, The North Walian voice is horrible ( )

More than 1 editor... This will prob be a busy role, but if your up for spending an evening or two a month helping to get it all cobbled together, then the more the merrier.

A tech-y. Someone to do the monthly tech how-to, should we decide to have one. Nick would be perfect if he's up for it?

And a few people to do segments.... The other thread has already spouted a few good idea's... if you have access to a half decent camera with sound recording then your more than welcome to do a segment. As well as the funny stupid shopper style stuff a "my bike" section would be cool, preferably someone with a really nice/interesting bike... Then at the end of the year we can do BOTY. And a "my trails" section would be mint... get a mate to film you on your local trails.

If your going to do a segment dont worry about editing, just get a good amount of film, like 10 mins for a riding segment, or less for an interview/joke style one and send it to the editor's, we'll leave it up to them to finish it all of neatly....

As for music... we can just discuss that and give whatever tracks we choose to the editor's

Finally we'll need someone to do a logo.. I know there's a load of graphics lads on here... so I'm sure one of you could knock something up.

    as for dates.

1st of May sound about right for Episode 1?

remember, it's "open source" so idea's are welcome!

thanks! and dont be shy, if your up for having a go, just say.

Haha, this reminds me of when I was down the gym a few weeks back. A bloke was talking about his new bike (an EX8, much to my annoyance as it was the same as mine at the time :x ), clearly having now idea what he was really talking about.... constantly referring to XC as "XT" biking.

Anyways, the best part was when he said he went into the shop with the intention of buying a £1500 road bike.

DUDE! Take a joke! I went to a Welsh school in S.Wales where we were tought that the N.Walian accent is the wrong kind of Welsh. lol. I'm only joking anyway... I'm sure you have a lovely voice... ;)

and of course it's not up to me... if you want to narate it and others want you to too, then that's totally cool.

I sure as hell can't narate, my voice sounds like a drunk parrot. lol

I think it needs a fashion corner. My riding buddies regularly comment on my lycra and stylish retro jerseys, in awesome swirly patterns and colours. Green and purple is a classic combination.

Maybe Andy could do make up tips.

Haha, yeah... not sure why... I think its just a few slight differences in pronunciation and a few small words that differ...

too true... I really miss speaking Welsh... living in Swansea I never use it, and tbh have forgotten pretty much everything.

It's more than a few words here and there, it's practially an entirely different language. Annoyingly, when we do Welsh cartoons, we have to have a roughly equal mix of north/south characters, and trying to get them to mesh together is a trying task.

Anyway, back to the crudcatcher vids, erm... I don't have a video camera. I REALLY can't see anyone lending me their broadcast camera, or a Canon EOS5D to film myself crashing into trees.
Hmm. Need to find a solution.
