Hmm. Need to find a solution.
I reckon someone would lend you one if you promised some serious injuries, with blood and stuff.I don't do smileys.

uncompressed movs/avis can be huge you know. The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -

The size of the files is the thing putting me off offering my editing services. Transfering them will be a PITA. Also, you still need an editor to place all the edited parts together. Could be a huge ballache, and much more than a nights work.
Plus, I ususally ask for payment for this sort of thing.....It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

im crap but free and willing to do some editing, can do some am graphics and at a push some 3d work for titles etc
if you want top quality need to keep uncompressed.
could use virtual dub and compress with huffyyuv, lagaraith or a reasonably highgrade xvid, uncompress at my end could get it back up to 90-99% and would save the uploader 50% of upload time.
can do straight editing between clips or edit and synch sequences to audio.
also able to do some offline stuff, colour correcting, effects etc etc but not pro so leave me alone yee0 -
ahh also if any riders want to have slo mos etc have to record at higher fps 60min upto 120 to keep file size reasonable, avoids loss of frames and stuttering.
we would need to agree a stndard size as well, prefer 1280 by 720 but anything divisiable by 16 is preferable so we dont lose too much quality in compression.
i normally compress in h264, but can do straight avi's in xvid or even decent .flv0 -
oh lord im drunk and tired and i have done an audition clip
will decide whether im uploading it when im sober, questionable synch, tracking and font for starters :twisted:0 -
Well it's only going to be a webcast, not for TV showing... so if it looks good on youtube that's all that matters....
I didnt think we were planning on using TV level camera's... I was just thinking about my mates point and shoot that (claims) to shoot in HD.....
Mak3m... you seem pretty enthusiastic about it... so if your up for it, i'd vote in favour of you doing some edit work....I like bikes and stuff0 -
hehe was a lil drunk and couldnt be assed going to bed so did a lil edit.
please bear in mind this is using ripped mp4 footage, so there are framerate issues, quality is terribad, i had to bleach the footage to regularise it as it was different colours, music is a bit naff, some of the synch is out, the text is cringe (supposed to be chisled into the rock), tracking is bad and the reverb on the whoosh is awful. Didnt have time to do any post correction so the image is very dark
but apart from that

i used to really enjoy editing, but only did gaming movies using CSS footage. Woukdnt mind getting back into it, as for some reason i find the process of editiong and pulling stuff together very relaxing :?:
dont frape me too much0 -
well for something so bad, its Brilliant!!!
As far as I'm concerned you can have the job!
We can always pull in one or two others just to help out.. but based on that... you should be perfect!
OK, so now we need Idea's and volunteers for the first episode.
serious suggestions only please, and only volunteer if you really are up for doing a section.
And while we'r at it, can I put myself forward for "coordinator" if someone else wants to do it then fine, but if not, I'm happy enough to do it....I like bikes and stuff0 -
Happy to help, not sure what with, but if you need help.
Quite happy to talk to the camera and look Gucci on film etc, so maybe after you know what it is you have maybe i could put in the intro's and descriptions in???0 -

For something thats shite, that's epic
I'm starting to create video clips of rides but they're extremely amatuer; taken from a camera phone. Might be doing Dalby in a few weeks so could record some runs of that if you wanted coverage.
As for people recording chapters and sending them to one editor, are you thinking that people fully edit and compose their own 5min section and one person is responsible for titles, subs, and tying the individual chapters together?0 -

I was thinking that each person could send "raw" or unedited film to someone who could edit it into a neat 5 min "segment" and then onto someone else again to tie them all together with a bit of music/narration/host sitting in a comfy chair by the fireplace action.
as for SurfBum's comment... well if other people like the idea i'm well up for having a host... it would be pretty cool to have a different person hosting each time too... but yeah... once we know what's going into an episode then a sitting in front of a camera host would be really cool... help to just bring it all together...I like bikes and stuff0 -
either way would work tbh, different editing styles for different segments can work quite well, keep the viewer interested.
then one person to do an offline edit pulling it all together, adding breaks, commentry etc which is a piece of cake.
any budding graphic designers out there the CrudCast could do with a logo0 -
amen to the logo bit... I'll have a go at a push... but I'm a total amateur!I like bikes and stuff0
-
I think it would be a lot of work for one person to edit multiple clips - not necessarily knowing which bits belong where - for 6 chapters and then a final full edit.
Might it be better for people to send in their own 5min project? And have a theme to keep each project vaguely related? There's quite a few people on here who have shown adequate skills in editing their own bike vids. The editor then does a final run through adding his own skils ontop of a submitted chapter.
Anyway, I like the idea, I'd get involved either way.0 -
hmmm... good point.... the final editor could just overview and patch up...
I supose the next step is to actually assign some segments and get filming?I like bikes and stuff0 -
well i can offer my services two ways
firstly i havent got a decent camera and more importantly im not that good on the bike  unless you fancy 5 mins of me huffing and puffing around some random farmers field :P
so I can either edit together someone elses camera work, either a talking piece or an action piece synced to some music
and/or
cobble together the lot, do an opening sequence/gfx, some end titles, mess around with logos and stuff. can do some music beds and audio stuff if required as well0 -
well as it's the first time it's hard to say how its all gonna go... but i'd suggest you may end up dabbling in a little of both... but predominantly in the final cut/tieing it all together work...
Now... who wants to do a segment for the first show?I like bikes and stuff0 -

good point.... one or two riding segment would be cool... as would a featured bike... but the CC is mostly crud, so more of that in the CrudCast is essential... goofing around... practical jokes and the odd argument is the order of the day... The show carries a bike theme, but it's not about bikes....I like bikes and stuff0 -
Have you decided how everyone is going to upload/download vids for editing etc??
I'm guessing if no one has a budget then something like windows live sky drive with sharing permissions.
Or do you have an FTP server??
Oh and where will the crudcast be hosted? youtube? one of those free websites or something?0 -
Well, I thought for my next vid id do mini interviews of the people I meet riding, fading between shots of them on the trail. It could be called; the crap you hear on the trail. Or I could just take some footage of crap on the trail...0
-
how's about the tagline...
"The crudcast. By mountain bikers, for mountain bikers, without neccesarilly containing anything of relevance to mountain bikes".
I'll set up an account on our ftp server tomorrow for you if you want.0 -

aha true true
unless
you are requesting 5 mins of me huffing and puffing in a farmers field without my bike
unfourtunately i am blessed with a face for the radio could do a newbs view on bike radar and the crud, survival tips and the like :P0 -
surely to get a 5 min edit there's a lot to be shot etc a 2 min slot might work better. Anyway I like the idea and I'll try to contribute something . even if I have to go to Rhyl to do someones mum ( get a good 5 mins there)I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

Loving it so far.... The FTP server idea is good... if not I was thinking SkyDrive might be perfect... so that's another good idea.
Bluechair is having some awesome, potentially very funny ideas.... and I love Yeeha's tag line!!!
