Doesn't Skydrive still have the 50meg limit on individual uploads?
I'll set up an account on the FTP tomorrow, and PM the details to Josh, since he's the self-appointed "coordinator".
He can then distribute the username and password to contributors. (I don't really want the details posted on a google searchable public forum)

Maybe limit contributions to no more than 5 minutes? Seems like a sensible idea. Since if someone has a fantastic gag they want to do, it seems daft to force them to arbitrarily drag it out to 5 minutes.

I'm thinking an interview with Sheepsteeth's mum needs to be done

yep... an AVERAGE of about 5 mins is the key thing... that sounds like a perfect arrangement with the FTP...

    Sheepsteeth's mum!! that's an AWESOME idea!!! :lol::lol:

    in Rhyl

So, Bluechair... are you really up for doing a funny one this month? I like the trail side interview/stupid shopper idea's in particular... :D

OK, so Yeeha has very kindly set up an FTP server for the CrudCast... so that's awesome.... :D

But before we go on... we need to appoint someone to co-ord' all this stuff... I'd rather not do it... although I will if I have to... but ideally we need to vote on someone to look after all this stuff and make sure it all comes together...

Nominate someone or yourself below, and we can vote then....

Well, that's what I think we should do... but this is an Open Source project... so suggestions are welcome.... :)

    cheers all!

Well next weekend I'll hopefully be riding Dalby so I'll put together a <5min piece with music, shots and interviews of trail riders. I don't really do funny so I'd rather not embarrase myself trying  but I'll stick my hand up and say I'll produce something for the Crud Cast 8)

    Instead of a coordinator, surely we just need a rough guideline for people to tick off, fr'instce;

    * Intro sequence - Mak3m pretty much cracked that drunk...
    * a presenter to introduce scenes / footage?
    * 5 x 5min pieces -
    ~1 on interviews (BC84)
    ~
    ~
    ~

Then we can just add to this as people input ideas. If we don't get enough people pad out a rough design then we know not to bother.

Other segments people could undertake - baking awesome trailside cookies, bike review vid, how best to lure someone into a ditch, problems associated with lime extraction...

Can BR get involved and give contributors free upgrades to 2x10speed XT? Or maybe Tshirts

Just thought, if the above was made the first post, it could be edited as people undertake indivudual projects. It would be easy for people to see and get involved if they wanted. A new thread would be started for each CrudCast episode.

    :(
I'm not doing it now. I don't want 2x10 XT, and I have enough T-shirts. Go stuff yourself

I think a more freeform approach would be best. Let's set a time limit, like a month, for example, and see what people have contributed by then. Then choose what goes into that month's episode.
If there's more than a month's worth, save some good things for the next month and so on.

good call.... That approach could well make it less stressful on one person too... What about May 1st for the first episode?

If BC84 is gonna do that segment at dalby, then that's a great start... I think a good segment would be a bike review/"here's my shiny bike" section.... frankly anyone could do that... so who's up for it? :D:wink:

and do we have any volunteer's for the host? we can have someone different every month... they just need to sit in front of a camera, maybe in a cool location, like at a trail, or by a nice view, or in a garage full of bikes and give a brief intro to each section... that'll have to be recorded after the rest of the show is done though...

I'd happily host it, in my own inimitable style
But alas, I have no camera... yet.
I do have a recording studio though :D

Now, are you thinking of quality control? Because my Motorla Defy is my only camera. That and a little Veho Muvi copy...

    joshtp Posts: 3,966
The Defy will be fine for "out and about" type stuff... a slightly shaky look can give it a more friendly feel for stuff like trail side interviews anyway (IMHO) and it's got a pretty darn good camera IIRC?

All in favour of yeeha hosting Episode 1 say "I"

    "I" !

thinking about it... I have a mate coming down next week, and he's got a pretty decent camera.... I'll do a "my local trails" segment if ya'll want?

My dodgy riding, some sweet trails and a frankly awful TV voice, bad jokes included could produce something laughable. :D:lol:

really like the idea of collecting for a month then cobbling together a cast, less pressure better result.

Im up for working up a proper intro/title sequence and might even have a playabout at submitting a nub segment to see if it can get past the editorial team :P

think we need t try and set up some min standards for pieces or film segments, my preference would be a min of:

1280 by 720 at 30fps, square pixels and progressive scan would also help ;)

if its a standard format will make the stitching together so much easier

Josh did you get anywhere with the logo, if you have could i have the project files as i could animate it into the intro? I can do simple text based logos if required but nothing fancy :(

are we including BR in any way, we could also incorporate the BR logo into the intro, if we are who would be the best person to speak too to get a hq br logo?

also anyone know any good places for dloading or indeed the name of any hq mtb movies or resources

suppose i could also put a shout out on the general forum for any footage from peeps who might not be interested in contributing to the cast directly

@yee nice job on the ftp matey is there any file size or traffic limit we need to worry about, dont want to be causing you problems :P

You've got to be kidding me. Stick to PAL. and for god's sake, 25FPS, what the hell are we, Americans?

No file size limitations that I know of on the FTP. Just don't go bonkers.
I explained to Josh that as long as we keep track of it it should be fine. You know, weed it out occasionally, and no insane uncompressed HD footage.

As Yeeha said.... keep the min quality specs down.. very few of us have HD video cams just lying around....

As for the logo... haven't even looked at it yet... but TBH I'm hardly the person to do it... I have only basic graphic skills... I know there are a few graphics people on the forum... we just need to pull one in and utilise his skills....

As for good bike video's.... Seasons and Life Cycles are my faves... but dont try and use footage from them... we need to use original stuff only... copyright and stuff.... as for a BR logo.... Contact a Mod.

ok then if the final product is a flash file or youtube the res could go to 720 × 576 will give big savings on file size, but teeny in a standalone player.

if you want to go for 25fps we can but generally 30fps is the norm for pc's, lets go for 25 again file size but if need be i can convert 30p footage to 25p but their may be some quality loss.

talking about copyright and the likes are we sticking to royalty free music and sounds etc

well... Is there any reason we cant use a music clip if we own the song?

as for quality... we all have differing camera's with differing recording settings... it'll be up to the editor's to sort that out...

its a very grey area, there are legal ways to get around it on youtube, basically signing that the vid in question isnt for profit or sale.

I dunno. Since I work for a publisher owned studio, I'm not even getting involved in all that mess.

There's a few musos here though, sure some of us could knock together a few tracks.

Why do you want 30 frames per second? It's only a "standard" in a roundabout way, because most online content is from the states. 25P is the defacto standard everywhere else in the world.

what about in our own segments though.... pretty much every bike vid I can think of has non-original music in it... how do we get the permissions to do that? if that's too much of a hassle then I suppose we will have to use original music... but it strikes me as a hell of allot of work, especially for the number of songs we may want/need!

well 24p and 23.976 as well

dunno im sure i had a really good reason but for the life of me i cant remember, all the gaming vids i have done has always been in 30p with peeps recording ingame footage at multiples of 30. Might just be a comfort thing. was convinved that it was to do with monitor refresh rates but a quick wiki search confirms that 25p is best for 60hz which is the common refresh rate for a standard monitor.

balls to it the human eye can only see at 23 and a lil screen flicker will probably be the least of our worries :D

your studio, is it music/video tv or the lot, this is one of the reasons im very self depreciating as professionals really look down on internet wannabie hacks. I once had the pleasure of spending the weekend with some online and vx editors and the abuse was constant even after i threatened to hurt them

AFAIK, nobody outside of the states has ever, ever used 23.976. and 24 is generally for films. Or to get a "filmic look"

had a quick trawl through some copyright stuff

basically everything i have produced, apart from my drunken crudcast test, is illegal, but then again so is about a billion clips etc available on the internet

i think we would be a long way down a big list

Yee close your ears a second, i suggest we just get on with it and use whatever we like.
