    What a great idea.....

Can anybody tell me what the coffee from an aeropress is like in comparison to say a moka pot or an espresso machine in terms of strength and depth ? I use a Bodum moka pot and also have a varied collection of espresso machines, cafetiere etc, but am thinking of getting an aeropress just for the sake of trying it. For instance, is it more like a brew from a cafetiere or an espresso ?
Aeropress is much closer to espresso than cafetiere, it can produce really quite an intense shot. In fact I stopped using one as I found it a bit too intense (and I'm used to using an espresso machine at home). It's quite a fun way of making coffee and led to lots of conversations about it in the kitchen at work. I'd say it's worth giving it a try as lots of people swear by it.

Thanks BM. That's all the incentive I need ! Thankyou for feeding my habit :D .

Just popping over to Amazon now.

After seeing my LCS had the Hario Ceramic hand grinder in stock, I can confirm that:

    a) coffee ground with a decent grinder is better
    b) grinding ~100g of coffee by hand takes an actual epoch.

...Wondering if I can attach this to a low-RPM high-torque motor of some kind...

Just 'earned' a free Rhino Hand Grinder from Pact Coffee

Guess this should do a better job than the Krups blades/blender I have at the moment...

Second only to a power meter an electric burr grinder is the best thing I've purchased, maybe ever.

But free is free, good work!

Yep electric grinder all the way, I just use a spice grinder dedicated for the job mind.

Woah nelly! I think you'll find that Internet wisdom does not allow for spice/blade grinders to be an acceptable means of coffee grinding due to the inconsistency in the size of the ground bits and overly heating the beans whilst grinding. (although it's good enough for me, lol)

Indeed. Thou shalt not refer to said implement as a coffee grinder. Whirly blade, chopper, electric blade or propeller 'grinder' are almost OK. With judicious shaking during chopping it can produce alright results for plunger or drip. Lesser of the two evils compared to using pre-ground or stale beans. But buy a proper tool for the job eh - life is too short

About to place a Pact (or similar, just mail-order) order - does anyone have a referral code they'd benefit from my using?

The coffees from these guys are worth seeking out Boff - http://www.olfactorycoffee.co.uk/ - few places sell it locally in Cornwall, but they might ship you some out if you drop them a line.

OK so I just set up Mrs Ini's Christmas/Birthday/Valentines present, A Sage Barista Express.

So now I need to find a bean supplier with sub 30 day roast dates.

There's Pumphrey's roastery just over the river and their cafe in town, Best Cappuccino 2013, 2014 and Espresso 2012 according to BSA. So I'll start local before trying the more aggressively marketed alternatives.
I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.
