    Not strictly rock but Captain Sensible, a much overlooked guitarist, as a point of reference the Damned's Machine Gun Etiquette album.

    Guitarists like Clapton & the Edge are technically very good, but they have no imagination, they have done nothing new or exciting. So these are my favorites.

    1 Hendrix. Genius, the man who invented the heavy rock guitar sound & explored what a guitar can sound like

    2 Tom Morello (Rege Against the Machine) My generations Hendrix, re-invented what a guitar can soundlike

    3 Josh Homme (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and others) Just a rock genius

    4 Adam Jones (Tool) Just listen to Prison Sex.

    5 Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) Made so many sounds with his guitar. Very inventive

    I'm a big fan of Holdsworth and Dimeola - Greg Howe and Frank Gambale are worth a listen aswell.
