Eric Clapton has been named the greatest Guitar Hero by guitarists in the UK.
Allianz Musical Insurance conducted the poll at the recent Guitar Nation Live event last weekend, asking guitar players and music fans which guitarists they rated most highly.
And Clapton came out on top of the poll ahead of Hendrix, Page, Beck and Berry.
1. Eric Clapton
2. Jimi Hendrix
3. Jimmy Page
4. Jeff Beck
5. Chuck Berry
But who do you rate as your guitar hero? My votes go to:
1. Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple / Rainbow)
2. Gary Moore (Thin Lizzy)
3. Michael Schenker (Scorpions / UFO)
4. Ronnie Montrose
5. Dave Gilmore (Pink Floyd)

Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.

Jeff Beck! If youy haven't seen Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scotts. keep a lookout for it on BBC3/4.
I was brought up with Mr Marr and Squires but Beck is in a different league.0 -
this may not be everyones taste, but you have all failed to mention the genius that is joe perry of aerosmith......
he is in fact left handed but will play the guitar right handed if he is on the left of the stage as not to knock anyone out with the neck!
also went to wembley to see them and half way through the set, the full band swapped instruments without pausing 8)0 -

was the reason i started to play.....nothing fancy with him either...he plays like he is digging a hole.
Nick Drake was also a very talented guitarist...all the guitar parts he ever recorded were done in one take.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

No!
And the last one was his brother, Malcolm who is one of the finest rhythm guitarists to walk the planet. (remember we are talking rock here, not jazz or anything *fancy*)0 -
what about rory gallagher for some bluesy rock?

Buddy Guy and Ry Cooder.
OK more Blues than Rock (But its all the same). Saw Buddy Guy in a basement blues club in Harlem in the late 90's and he played his own stuff and told (possibly tall) tales about how he had come up with some of the classic riffs and how he had tought them to those now accredited. He did go on to play them better than most. By far and away the best gig I have seen and I stumbled on it by accident due to poster in street.Coach H. (Dont ask me for training advice - 'It's not about the bike')0 -
Angus Young! Surely you can't be serious? Even Steve Jones of the Pistols is better than him. I see no one has mentioned the likes of Glen Tipton, Michael Schenker, Ronnie Montrose, Gary Moore or Rory Gallagher.
EVH just brought a few tricks to the big stage. A very good rhythm guitarist but not so hot as a soloist. Others have adapted those tricks and do them better; Vinnie Vincent, Satriani, Vai etc.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

+1 to McCabe. Every time I listen to Verve records, I find myself wondering 'How did he do that?!'. He's a massively underrated player, and made huge leaps between albums. The Verve's Northern Soul record is probably his finest moment.
This live performance on the Jools Holland show is amazing.
Oh, how I miss The Verve...
