Glad to see BikeRadar haven't closed this thread, not this time anyway. I wonder how much ABG spend on advertising by way of their product lines?

To the OP and unfortunate owner I have not got the patience to read through 13 pages of this but the photo depicting the alleged bend on the hanger is bothering me.

Someone is holding an engineers rule against the hanger as a way of showing the hanger is bent, but this proves nothing at all. The photo only shows the rule in contact with the hanger at the top and a gap at the bottom. What is stop someone holding the rule at an angle not parallel to the hanger?

If they are saying the hanger should be parallel to the position of the rule there is nothing in the photo to display that! I was an engineer for 20 years and this all looks suspect to me.
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.

Holy f*ck!!!! ABG are being a right bunch of merchant bankers!!!

I work in retail and can kind of understand (but not agree with) their initial reluctance to honour the claim. However once the sh*t started hitting the fan they should have just relented and replaced it IMMEDIATELY!!

In the WWW age it is too easy for a company to be slated over the web and the cost of loosing further sales must surely be more important/costly than loosing a few grand on dealing with the OP!!

At many stages AGB could have nipped this in the bud and kept ALL parties happy but sending the Police over a CIVIL matter is the final straw.

While I do sadly believe that the OP is whistling in the wind in regard to get any money or equivalent frame back the damage that is being done to AGB is some kind of justice.

At least it has opened up many peoples eyes in regard to so called "lifetime" frame warranties.

Just noticed you've added your post on slowtwitch again Pete :) It's been viewed 10 times, will be interesting to see how long it lasts. Tempted to sign up there too!

This is an interesting story to watch unfold, hope you get satisfaction and to be honest, I couldn't care less if ABG survive as a company, though I assume they do have some people of integrity working for them - it's them I feel sorry for because I honesly feel that a tremendous blow has been dealt to them.

I think they deleted me because they think I don't have a bike as it's in bits at Merlin/Litespeed :(

"vested" and "interest" are 2 words that spring to mind....

you could also try Beginner Triathlete forum as they are big in the US as well and have a lot of cycling people there.

Slowtwitch is full of tw*ts. Think VeloRiders but 1000 times more prolific and American and about triathlon.

Don't worry about being deleted off that thread, it's basically an advert for Litespeed. The sensible Slowtwitchers will have ignored Demerly's blatant ABG-cheerleading anyway. There were other posters besides you who complained about their customer service and questionable warranty handling so the message has gotten across. Funny they'd have you deleted though.

infopete, you do realise that how ever poorly ABG staff have reacted to the situation, sooner or later this campaign will run out of steam if they continue to not respond the way people expect.

i am guessing that in general these are not exactly their best ever years of business.

if this campaign carries on maybe ABG will become seen as an already wounded donkey slowly being kicked to death by its unhappy customer.

either way i wish you well with your claim, however lets hope they stay in business long enough to offer you more than they already have.

Problem is you are screwed whatever, the reason ABG won't honour the lifetime warranties on Merlin and Litespeed frames is that the business model simply doesn't work. Many of these Ti frames are failing and so having to keep replacing them for free is just a drain on the company. Plus if you have bike for 'life' you aren't exactly going to be a repeat customer, so they may as well tell you to take a hike, as it is ultimatly cheaper than repeatedly replacing frames.

From what I understand Merlin almost went bust previously to ABG taking them over, so in some ways you should consider it lucky that anything is being done about a broken Merlin frame.

It's not a matter of what I can get out of Litespeed/Merlin I just want my Merlin Cielo fixed.

If ABG go bust before then it's just tough, I'll cope.

But, until I get my Merlin back ABG will continue to get my full and constant attention.

  • Having just read your blog and this thread in it's entirety one thing that sticks out for me is that they never sent photos of the supposed crack in the head tube.

Have you asked for any evidence of this? Strange they sent the photos of the dropout/chainstay cracks yet offer no photo of the head tube crack.
  • I have been posting on roadbikereview for many years and to the best of my knowledge its the best site to post on they even have a manufacturers section in the forum and Litespeed/Merlin is listed so can post directly on this link.

I have asked, more than once, why they think my Merlin Cielo was in an impact.

I have also asked them to emplain, in detail, the science on which they are basing their asumptions.

I've also asked them to "resolve the forces" because I think the sort of impact they think my Merlin was in would involve me being DEAD.
