I reckon the disclosure of identity & details regarding a certain employee of a distributor wouldn't have gone down well.

This mainly. Another issue is being investigated as well.
  • Maybe worth making comment before locking though

I've had someone trying to phone me tonight from ABG but my phone was on silent.

Never had a post locked before.

I'll let you all know what happens.

Just been reading the other thread , i know always the last to catch up on all the gossip.
Any way ,had a similar thing happen to me many years ago, it was`nt merlin but a top end manufacturer they use the exact same argument against me , which i knew to be wrong. To cut a long story short, i eventually gave up and asked them to return my frame, to which they said " we cant, we cut it up to see whats wrong with it".

I've just spoken to the man from ABG.

They have reported the previous thread to the police and I am waiting to see what happens.

On a more positive note they have offered to replace the Merlin but not with a Cielo as this is no longer made.

I will keep you all informed as to what happens next.

What was posted in the thread other than the UK address of the business? If nothing, then there's not a thing that can do about it. The information is a matter of public record from Companies House.

What have they offered as a replacement? Make sure it's as similar as possible and of as equal value as possible, or it's not really a replacement under the terms of the warranty. Most decent manufacturers will usually replace up their model line where the original has been discontinued.

Lol...............they do realise this is the internet, if they hadn't been so unreasonable in the first place, it could of been a positive spin thread instead of which...........!!

I'm surprised in the entire Merlin thread, no one suggested blaming the whole thing on Wiggle. :)

Maybe the details (name and maybe additional details ?) of someone who works for the UK importer of Merlin ?
Saw a female's name being bandied about and suggestions about making direct contact with them as they had refused to divulge details about the company. Googling still throws up results but thread Bikeradar deleted for some.
  • OK, always fancied buying a Merlin frame for the last 20 years......

    Wouldn't touch them with a barge-pole now!

  • Like it was said, you can get the info on companies house, it has to be public, just like one could use company watch to gain the details of directors etc...

Its not hard to access this info.

They could have done this in the beginning for heaven's sake! Then you wouldn't be in this position.

Again company only reacts after a slating on an internet forum.

They should have sorted this from the start. The pictures clearly showed no contact points from a smack to the frame.

    I wouldn't touch Merlin with a bargepole.

    Good.

Regarding the police bit, I didn't see the whole thread, but for goodness sake!

Cant see why the police would be interested ? Posting names and details that anyone could google ? Nobody was making any threats were they ?

At least they've made you an offer on replacing the frame and I think they've helped a lot of people make up their minds about future purchases...
  • the police are involved purely because of ABG, bunch of jokers clearly...

but what is the alleged crime??

    threats? harrassment??

there must be an alleged criminal offence for the cops to be called?!
  • If they have now offered to replace the frame then they obviously didn't have any proof that there was impact damage. Glad you are getting a new frame :D

And to ABG :( you know that the cycling community is close knit and word spreads quickly, this was such a small issue to rectify and you had to be such w*nkers about the whole issue, I have always wanted a merlin or lightspeed but with that kind of customer service I would not want to risk my money.

+2. Very poor customer service IMHO. If they had just acted decently in the first place then none of the negative press would have happened. Hopefully they will learn a lesson from this.

I have to ask why when there is so much evidence out there that they can't make a frame that'll last. It really isn't hard to make a road frame, the design is pretty much unchanged in 100 years. However, it seems that for these two manufacturers quality control, especially in relation to the welding is awful.

I thought matters like this were a civil matter and the police would only get involved if threats were made etc

In fact this could be turned around now and if there was no crime commited then their threat could be reported as harrasment.

Any thought I might have had about buying a Ti bike for my 50th from these manufacturers has well and truely gone from my mind. Now how about a nice Pegoretti
