makes you wander what would happen if you had there bikes
you guys have the same sort of things your way?
Just a thought, but if you were to improve your ability to spell and punctuate, you may be able to obtain employment that pays a reasonable salary and as a result you could afford to buy a quality bike0 -

Fed up with bellends who harp on about this on every other thread.
I used to race rully rigid Raleigh Mtrax back in the day - cost me a few hundred notes and fared reasonably well. As I have got older, left my student days behind me and started to bring home a reasonably wage, I have treated myself to the new more expensive bikes. I'm not the best or the worst cyclist...but just love riding it. Get out on it a couple of times a week in winter and more in the summer.
If people have the money and want to splash out...then so be it...as long as they're happy.
and btw.....what's an "afluwent area?"0 -
I haven't checked, but last time I was in my LBS there wasn't an audition that you needed to pass to buy something flash.
I spent £4500ish on my DH bike and I'll be honest and say as DHing goes I'm pretty usless. The joke being I bought forks with a Ti spring to make the bike easier to lift onto the uplift trailer. But I go faster on it than I do on my old £2k Norco, turns out you can buy ability, if not talent. Never felt like I had to justifiy it to anyone though, I wanted it, I earned the money fair and square so I bought it.
I'm also in my 30's and quite fat, yet I quite often pass younger fitter riders when I'm out. Is it true that young/fit riders are all shit? Or perhaps that not all MTB'ers are constantly racing each other and are often bemused when some young lad gives them a smug look when they pass on their reasonably priced bike.0 -

Couldn't have put it better myself0 -
The cheaper the bike, the less attractive you are to the opposite sex.
wow, i'm off to the shops via the bank. Maybe finally females will no longer ask questions like "but cycling isn't even a real sport, why would you ever do that?" and "but why don't you just get a car like normal people?". maybe then they won't even mind if i wear my padded shorts in public just incase i have to cycling somewhere far away unexpectedly. i'll let you all know how it goes.
or maybe i'm just finding the wrong sorts, where is this heaven of cycle loving ladies?0 -
Ha Ha!
What a load of toilet. You do realise that this is using up server space don't you?
I'm curious though... if I were to offer you a swap - your £150 bike for my £3K bike - can I take it you wouldn't be interested as it would instanly make you an inferior rider (or person)?
I didn't think so.
These threads are up there with my other favourite - the 'Where's My Order?' thread.

Unfortunately there must be at least 50,000 posts here sugesting that you could not be more wrong!
In fact a neutral observer might logically conclude that the main thing that participants love about mountain biking is the endless opportunities it creates to identify and denigrate whole groups of people - downhillers, roadies, BSO riders, expensive bike owners, flat pedal users, lycra wearers, bottle carriers, tubeless tyre users etc etc etc
"It doesn't matter what your ability is, mountain bikers abuse ALL riders that do not share their precise take on the thrill of off road riding."0 -
Meh, I'm open minded, happy to see people out riding anything, in any kit! WGAS if they're having fun?
There will always be someone quicker than you, unless you're Julian Absalon or Nino Schurter, stop worrying about it and just get on with riding your bike!0 -
Just to add another slant. I have a full susser and am not great by any means. sure you would whip my arse.
But, are you in your 40's, have one leg plated up from a rugby injury, arthritis in another and a back that feels it from time to time? If I want to ride a full susser at my pace because it makes a ride more comfortable then what is it to the tosser who put the post up?0 -
i agree with the original pster.
people should learn to ride their bikes before they are allowed to buy a proper good bike.
it sickens me to see people wobbling around on the trails, if i had their bikes id be more of a legend!0 -

In which case I'm better than all of you 'cause I've done the black run at Afan on a fully rigid '92 Marin with 1.95 tyres and cantis, so :P

i'd rather ride a £3k bike down a canal tow path, than a £150 gary glitter.
...and when you come ragging it past me at full tilt on your £150 glitter saying to yourself
" i'm beating him MUMMY i'm beating him, I WIN I WIN, YES YES, on a £150 bike, i've made it in life, i'll sleep tonight, OOOOOOOOHHHHHH MUMMMMMMYYYYYY"
I'll probably wonder who that mofo was that nearly took my concentration off the bang tidy sound my Formlu Oro Bianco brake lever makes when I click it slightly0 -
Just to throw my two pence worth in, I started off with a crap bike and Ive been upgrading it over time. Thats all part of the fun for me.
Mind you at my local downhill trails I ride them on a five inch hardtail, some people ride eight inch downhill bikes, and Ive even seen one guy doing the black runs on a rigid singlespeed. We all have great fun!i ride a hardtail0 -
unless your bike has an rrp of over £7k your a C*!T
it really is that simple I'm surprised you haven't worked it out by now, Also if your bike does happed to be worth less than £7k you really have failed in life.
I'm surprised that people with a cheap bike that cost less than £7k can afford the Internet i really do feel for them thats why i give some money to Charity's.
Im off now to have a skin peel i feel all dirty now that i know poor people with cheap bikes costing less than £7k are on the internet.[/img]0 -
OP - don't stress your boots over your daft comment. Everyone has laid into you for being a berk..... come on, post something else and forget this sorry saga. Give it a few days and this will be done and dusted0

Why alot of the younger people on cheaper bikes think there hero's is this.
Mostly they are students with huge amounts of time on the hands to ride and keep fit, what they will learn as they age is work starts to demand more time, keep as fit is harder but you can now afford the nice things in life like a good bike.. this happens to alot of people not there fault.
People ride what they can buy and enjoy let them. I'm lucky I have a fairly forgiving job in terms of time with a35hours week i get to stick with mostly, and sinse i have little out going i can afford a nice bike adn the time to keep fit. But that time is a luxury alot of people don't have.
So chill you £150 super heroes, asgive it 5 years you will struggle to make the time too.0 -

i have a medium priced bike (originally £1500) but i have a gf, a little boy and a job with ridiculous hours that take up most my time so i guess i'm one of the guys they're over taking0 -
Eh i can't spell and i can affor an alright bike0

but you shouldnt buy a good bike unless you can ride one properly.0

Damn this thread confuses me...
I just convinced the Mrs that I can buy myself a decent full sus bike!... but I am shite and I ride a hardtail, so where do I sit in this discussion? as most of the old gits on Expensive Full Sus over take me?.. oh shite, I am old to!
Is it worth spending my money on a expensive full sus now?!?!
I think i am getting a complex
any one got samaritines number handy? (not for me but the plonker that started this thread)
Seriously, if you could afford more than £150 bike, you would buy it, irrespective of your riding ability.0 -

Good question i assume it depends on how central that leg is, I mean if its a birth deffect the leg could be central...0 -
Questions to ask yourself
How keen am I really
Am I going to use it regularly irrespective of how shite I am on it
Am I going to get maximum enjoyment out of it every time I use it
Can I get the same enjoyment out of a cheaper bike
Can I get the same enjoyment on a hardtail
How much do I really want to spend
By the time you've answered those honestly and squared the circles you'll have roughly the correct answer for you0
