Inspired by some of the stuff in the Clentador thread

What is your favourite doped ride? List more than 1. When you just sit back and think it is what it is, what did you enjoy watching even though it was a nonsense.

Me : Landis to Morzine.
Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.

  • Pantani to Deux Alpes- I was too young and naive to appreciate it for what it was at the time.

    By miles.
  • Sorry, writing that jogged my memory as to Isidiro Nozal and Aitor Gonzalez for the other thread.

Does Jesus Manzano staggering around like a drunk in the 2003 tour count?

The ones that always stick out in my mind are the ones where you immediately go "no fupping way!"

    Hincapie's Pyrenees win, for example.

This ride, probably would come close, had I watched it.

For those who understand, Wuyts does his usual good chat on watching this again in the knowledge that Museeuw was jungle juiced, and how he sensed it wasn't quite what it should have been at the time (and explaining what he said during the commentary and why he said it)

Hincapie to Pla d'Adet in the 2005 Tour. Perpetual Paris-Roubaix hope "Big" George discovers his climbing legs to trounce Phonak's Pereiro on a stage with six climbs and a tough summit finish. You watched it and just laughed.

Indurain breaking away and towing Bruyneel to Liege in the '93? tour. Don't know why he attacked but it was such a shock to see from a rider not known for his panache.

there was a period of about 7 years.......

DDLs 09 Giro was just laughably doped. It was like he wasnt even trying to hide it.

  • Ricco on the Col d'Aspin!
  • The top 5 of the 2003 Tour. Still one of the best races I can recall.

I saw this when I first got into cycling, was quite inspirational for an ignorant noob.

Plus Contador and Rasmussen duking it out in the mountains in ’07 was weirdly entertaining!

    Flandis was spectacular.

For some reason the Piepoli and JJ Cobo on Hautacam sticks with me, I remember thinking wow, what a pair of losers, they've cheated the poor but decent Mr Schleck (I'm easily misled) of a prestigious win.

But many Lance moments really take the bag, the pursuit of Pantani on Ventoux, but I guess if it has to be one moment, then 2004 when he caught Kloeden almost on the line, ahead of Ullrich, Basso and Landis, a proper dope fest.

Rasmussen vs Contador on the Peyresourde
Vandenbroucke to Avila in the 1999 Vuelta
    Tyler Hamilton to Bayonne
The full second half of Jalabert's career

In terms of 'omen' factor it has to be the 1-2-3 (Argentin, Furlan, Berzin) of Gewiss Ballan in the 1994 Fleche Wallonne - starting to realise there was a significant shift happening, and that the era of 2 minute time penalties for amfetamine pills was over...

I like these (and Flandis and mr 60%'s efforts too obviously).
Armstrong catching Pantani on the Ventoux always looks very wrong to me too...

That sums up the problem in cycling. Every "wow" moment is also an "errr" moment.

So many of my favourite moments are now marred by the fact there was a reason for them being so good.

Pantani to Deux Alpes in 98
Hamilton to Bayonne with broken collarbone in 2003
    Lance to Hautacam in 2000
    Chiappucci to Sestriere in 92

Strange how these are all TdF performances although that's probably down to the fact that I didn't have Eurosport so it was about the only time I watched races.

When was the last time there was an ‘errr’ moment in a classic.

I mean we had Cancellara at Roubaix this year, but that opinion is much more divided.

    LBL this year.

My pick would be Landis to Morzine, but I also "enjoyed" Vino and Kashechkin doing over Valverde in the Vuelta.
