Would anyone seriously take the bet with the functioning lighter being substituted by any members of the professional peloton being squeaky clean? Name names and, if you can't, why vent your rage on one?

Im gonna go against the recent trend on this thread to beat-up Contador and say I am absolutely fricken delighted he has been cleared (for now)... amongst a number of reasons, these two stand out at the moment (and I dont care about the merits of these reasons):

    (a) Contador can continue his onward march to topple Lance's TdF victory record... I was depressed thinking that in theory I would have to wait at least three more years for the next contender to get to the present accumulated three in a row; and

    (b) I would like to see someone prevent Andy Schleck from winning the TdF, and Contador is the man for that job.

If there was ever a case of hatred of LA clouding someones judgement this is surely it.
Gasping - but somehow still alive !

We might not want to bet a finger, but we still care. Well, I do.... did....

    yes, I still care.

What do I stand to win? I'd be pretty confident betting on David Moncoutie.

Now the pendant bit: Alfred Hitchcock Presents, not Tales of the Unexpected (copied by Tarantino in the film Four Rooms). Steve McQueen was in it.

ASO/UCI ... Why can't they have it in tneir rules that if A&B samples are positive then you are stripped of any win ... Unless you can prove the test was wrong, not how much substance you had or how it got there ... If it's found to be there then no win ... And a 3 year ban for that race ...

if the federations want to impose country/sport-wide bans then they can ... But it gives the power back to those who (should stop pretending to) run the sport ...

What you're complaining about there is WADA.

So if Contador had proved the clen got there accidentally, would you still strip him of his win?

Oooh, had to Google this one to see if I'd finally succumbed to old age but this suggests that either I was right (or the idea was ripped off):

Anyway, fair play to you for your confidence in DM (just remember to wave with your other hand if it turns out to be unfounded) :)
  • Oh FFS how can they do this?

There was me thinking that PTP would be more interesting this year without everyone choosing Contador appearing for every climbing stage/GC that he participated in - and then they do this. Im seething

Yep, if tnere's doubt then ypu win nowt ... See a catchy slogan is even easy to come by... I've done the hard work for them ...

And what i'm saying is remove wada from the equation at race level ... If wada then want to go after someone then let them ... Let asa/uci stick up for themselves and stop looking for someone else to get their liunch money back ...

Am sure this belongs on another thread but talk about fiddling whilst Rome burns...

Sod the honour, their 2nd half of their raison d'etre gonna look pretty burnt if Contador wriggles free and precedent is set.
  • http://www.marca.com/2011/02/15/ciclism ... omentarios

FF may have left too soon! Some comments....in the first 10:

"Corre el Tour y ganalo Alberto, y a callar bocas!" Ride the Tour and Win it Alberto and Shut their mouths".... So far, what I'm reading, it's National Pride stuff and Yes, as Pokerface has said, UCI might wince in the face of this....

By the way, side note, it sounds like French and Spanish use "Correr" to run in talking about a Rider or to Ride. That I would not have known but most of this is easy to translate.

" Contador calla las bocas a todos los extranjeros y españoles que no creyeron en ti ganando el proximo Tour, por favor." Contador shuts the mouth of the Foreigners and the Spaniards that did not believe him and will win the next Tour, please!"

"Se hizo justicia, enhorabuena, ahora a seguir con tu brillante carrera! :)" You got justice in good time, now follow your brilliant career!

Many pages, see, from this you can tell it's largely a passion with the people.

    #31. "Grande Contador", Great Contador.

#33. "AC VA A GANAR 8 TOURS 7 VUELTAS 8 GIROS 9 VUELTAS AL ALGARVE Y 2 VUELTAS CASTILLA Y LEON Y SINO AL TIEMPO.." A Contador will go on to win 7 Vueltas, 8 Giros, etc. etc. "

So from this, you'd think all was decided.

"Si es que la cifra encontrada era mínima. Parece que los extranjeros les tienen miedo a los españoles y tienen que quitarle méritos. Soy español- ¿A que quieres que te gane?" My translations aren't perfect, let's see, ".... It appears that the foreigners have fear of the Spaniards and have to take their awards away. I'm Spanish. What do you want to win??"

"Contador nunca será como indurain.........QUIZAS SERA MEJOR. Espero que demustres con los años venideros tu gran potencial como deportista y como persona. Dios existe y ha sido justo contigo !!" Contador never will be like Indurain... Maybe he will be better. "

Doing this real quick but it's fascinating, here is a counter point.

It is a shame that they absolved him. He deserves a sanction.

Some of their boards over there you have to put in your citizen ID, not sure if it is this one.

But that is a change of pace.....I usually don't have a souped up computer to check these things up on....

Ya Me Voy, I'm going now, hope it is not against the forum rules to post in some other language because you know they don't know what you could be putting up. But No Chicanery here, it's all clean.

ASO and UCI should not be involved. It should be a completely independent 3rd party.

Do you think it's in ASO or UCI's interest to find people doping and expose them? No, it's not. And national feds are going to protect their own interests. There needs to be a single global organisation that enforces this stuff and doesn't have any vested interest in the sport.

So the uci and aso, rcs et al have no interest in protecting their race?

They could just not care and then nothing bad would be said ... Until someone dies or their new 4 time champ tests positive in the olympics or some other event ... Then tneir product would be left with no credibility ...

As i said, stop waiting for someone else to do your work for you ... Your race, your rules ... The teams can't complain as they all claim to run a tight ship and are responsible to their sponsors and public ...

Yes it is. Major drug scandals of the past - Festina, Puerto, Cofidis - have been lead by the police. The cops aren't going to stop. So, if the ASO & UCI sit back and look the other way, it'll only be a matter of time before another one comes along. Single riders they will always survive, doping rings are far more damaging. It's better for them to push the testing hard and hope to reduce the amount of doping and therefore their exposure to risk.

  • Good take on the Contador case (as always) here:

    http://www.sportsscientists.com/
  • i honestly hope this is taken to the next step, and he gets his full two years, then he will regret appealing the original one year ban. i feel like i've been punched in the stomach......i wonder if cadel is re-rethinking his "all-eggs-in-the-tour-basket" now that this little cheating worm is back in?
  • Also interesting is how quiet all the pros have been today.

Compare and contrast with the reaction to Ricco a week or so ago.

albertocontador Thank you all because you are the ones who encouraged me when I was not,and I hope to compensate it on the races.
