Still ride my 1995 Trek 830 to work.

It is mainly original including the front tyre and still going strong.

The most noticeable thing compared to a later bike is the geometry, bikes have definitely improved a lot in that respect.

The only original thing on the frame is the seat post, I still have the original rigid forks somewhere.

It still runs like a dream, though reduced to road work now...

is that a old school mag wheel i see on the front????

  • Blimey -where do I start? It's more a case of "what's under 5 y/o" for me.

    1. 1991 Pace RC200 mtb. Perfection, then and now. Still a lot of original gear
    2. 1990 Cannondale tourer. Slow but sure
    3. 1985 (?) Raleigh Comp. hack bike, now showing its age
    4. 1994 Trek OCLV 5500 all original
    5. 2003 Trek OCLV 5900
    6. 1997 Dawes Kickback two MTB tandem. All original (except for maguras and stronger back wheel, both fitted when new)

    etc

    etc.

5 years old is not "old".
Commute: Langster -Singlecross - Brompton S2-LX

Road: 95 Trek 5500 -Look 695 Aerolight eTap - Boardman TTe eTap

    Offroad: Pace RC200 - Dawes Kickback 2 tandem - Tricross - Boardman CXR9.8 - Ridley x-fire

I liked the un-symmetrical look mate, Spin also went out of business in the 90's.

I had a 1996 Rockhopper that was still doing great as a commuter as recently as 2007. Then some scumbag nicked it.

I'd probably still be riding it...
  • I had a Marin Wildcat Trail from 2004 until a month or so back when the frame finally gave in. Shame because it was a nice bike and over six years I had some great times with it.

the forks have been updated since the pic in the signiture.
  • I've got an original DMR Trailstar (approx 99?) and my winter commuter hack a 94 Univega Alpina 5.3.

I need to venture into my man cave and do some fettling on the Univega really...

  • Got a 1978 MK2 Raleigh Chopper languishing in the loft. Keep meaning to get it out again sometime but never seem to get around to it ;)

Got an old rigid steel ridgeback I'm thinking about resurecting as a hack but its nowhere near the same league.

You know what? You're right. They were the most incredible advancement in cycle design ever, and it's an absolute crying shame that their groundbreaking technological achievement was not carried on on motorcycles or bicycle design.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say that if ALL mountain bikes had tiny, caster-like front wheel, and really really peculiar head angles, and all your weight set very far back indeed, that there would have been a lot less crashing at the Red Bull Rampage this year.
And just think of what it could do to the tour de france?
  • I'm in love with that clockwork
I wanted one so badly back in the day

the other bike i want is my brothers
    a 93 or 94 stumpumper he's had from new

all original except paint, tyres and pedals (he moved to spd's in the late 90's but then moved back to flats once his shoes dropped to bits and he was too tigt to buy new ones)

    gotta love that proflex too

    and the flexstems are awesome
I remember MBUK doing a comparative test between those and thhe very first model of rockshox

reading this thread makes me vaguely ashamed of my 2010 Kona blast deluxe

I ride a 1986 Muddy Fox Courier that I got for Christmas when I was 11. It's my bimbling/pub/ride with kids bike. The only things that have been changed are a longer seatpost and tyres. (My Dad kindly put a Biopace crank on in 1987...)

    Pic from last saturday...

    Wow, look a tiny cow!!
Either way, you're much more adorable than I thought you'd be, Napoleon, but which one are you? The one on the purple bike, or in the seat?
