Big Winter Weight Loss Thread

Finally got my knee working, so after a year of being unable to ride due to knee injury, I had some excess weight to shift (had a bit of excess before this also...)
Im 5'11" and 3 months ago weighed 83kg. Today im at 75kg , my target is to lose whatever it takes to get ride of my belly!0 -
Watch out for winter though, I once heard some bloke say we put on a winter coat!!
Do you believe it? I have not seen empirical evidence that this is factual but it makes sense all the same.
Some of what we gain in the winter if that is true, is to keep warm just like we see animals do.
Also Sugar, I just do the best I can, more power to you if you can cut it out entirely, all I can do is to have tried to cut way back, no sodas for the most part, not much candy. I've also put a lot of muscle on over the past few years so it's really a bit deceptive to just post how much one weighs.0 -
No wonder my clothes are getting tighter.....I'm wearing the last 4 years winters coats all at once!!!!!0

Guys,
Can anyone recommend some decent front headlights?
I wanna keep going outdoors during the winter as I lose too much fitness on the turbo.....not to say I won't use the turbo on some nights but I'd like to keep on the roads as much as possible.....
It'll be way out in the countryside cycling so I'm looking for something relatively affordable but as bright as poss.....0 -
the lights question comes up all the time. ay-ups are good but pricey, P7s are much cheaper and almost as bright. You can get them as a torch or as a spotlight.

im under 74 kg for the first time in a while ! now at 73.9 instead of 74.8 ( i know going to decimals is probabily useles given the scales I am using, but good for motivation)0
-
When I started cycling 18 months ago I was 86kg (24%BF), I'm now 77kg (15% BF) aiming for 75kg (sub 15% BF).
If I aim for 2000 calories a day I usually start to do drop weight, but found that I was constantly hungry. I did find however that counting calories can be misleading. Look for foods that keep you full longer, for instance a 3 bean soup and granary bread lasts much longer than tomato soup and white bread although it has more calories, or porridge lasts longer than cornflakes etc. I think some call this a GI diet...
You might just have to face up to it, sometimes you will get hungry to lose weight, especially if you want it to come off quickly, much better to have it come of slowly and stay off. If you lose your chances to exercise, cut down on what you eat straight away!0 -
problem with not eating so your hungry is its not a long term solution, i think dieting needs to be a change in life style, not something you do for 4 weeks and then give up. It needs consistency and for that it needs to not be too extreme.0

I'm in as well!
I raced at 87kg this year prior to a smash, 3 months off gave me 5kgs more. I want to try racing at or around 80kgs next season.
I'm at 88.5 at the mo,so 8kgs to shift through to April through exercise and calorie restriction!
Oh, and if you're looking for inspiration, I dropped 20kgs from 112 to 92 between March and September 2008. How did I do it? Spinning, running and diet control."And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

1 and a bit weeks in...
Was going so well, had lost about 4 lbs by Wednesday of last week. Then I went off a drop on my mtb spraining my ankle quite badly, thus putting me off the bike for 4 weeks! Not too impressed.
Am now 83kg as opposed to 81kg. On the plus side im deciding where i want to go for a masters and the new turbo arrives tomorrow so loads of one legged drills starting tomorrow!
Im craving the exercise!
Well done everyone else, keep it up!0 -
Not sure what my goal weight it going to be yet but thought I'd join in on the thread. Been lurking the forums for a few weeks.
Height 6ft 7in
Weight 6 weeks ago = 120kg
Since then I've decided its time to get fit. I'm not changing my diet at all just set myself a goal to do some sprint tri's next year and to commute more by bike.
First few weeks I was doing more road biking until I had a chain fail and leave me in a heap in the middle of the road. Finally got the new chain ordered so should be back on biking from next week if we get some clear weather. Otherwise I'll be out on my mountain bike which has slick commuter tyres on. Also doing swim training and trying to do my impression of someone running. Although its not a pretty sight at the moment getting better though.
Current weight = 116kg
Thinking about signing up for some spinning classes over winter to help with my weight loss and general road biking fitness.
If you see a big bloke on a purple road bike around Bedford try not to run me off the road
Hoping to be <110kg by Christmas
Good luck all.

my weight fluctuates day by day up to half a kilo. I weigh myself at the same time and under the same coditions, but I'm going to take a stab and say hydration is the reason.
@Benwatson89 - disappointing, but don't give up! You can still lose weight (or at least maintain) without exercising!"And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

I'm 6'3" and rode Alpe d'Huez last year at 17.5stone (111kgs) but it was bloody hard work.
Went for some serious weight loss before this year's tour and reached just under 16st (100kgs) and it made a huge difference going up hills!
Now trying to keep up the good work and down to 15.5st (98kgs) currently.
For me a lot was about laying off the heavy weightlifting work / protein shakes etc which I was doing whilst playing rugby. Now that a shoulder injury has reduced me to occasional "social" rugby I am bulking down. That's not to say my body fat % has not dropped as well but it's certainly a combination of the two.
Would like to see 15 stone as a target.0 -
Well that's almost 4 weeks in.......training going well and down to 90kg ( over a 2kg loss!)
But then a tweaked hammy followed by several close family birthdays & tons of cake....means that as of this morning I'm up to 91.9kg again....so I've lost 0.3 kg since I started. :?
But I'm gonna take the positives from this speed bump & say that I can do it if I train & most importantly track what I eat ( on LIVESTRONG!)
Anyone know what date the Etape route gets announced?0 -
Silver Fox, you haven't committed the cardinal sin of weighing yourself more than once a week?
I used to weigh myself on Saturday morning as that was generally the end of a regular week for me, which meant if there was a party at the weekend or a family Sunday lunch it wouldn't affect my weight records come the next week. Having said that, if I was away midweek at some residential training or conference I would inevitably have increased my weight and sometimes be way over target at the Saturday weigh-in.
BTW, despite having only done 90 miles on the bike in the last three weeks due to a trapped nerve in my back I'm 2 kilos lighter ':D'.0 -
86.8, down from 90.1 since I started tracking properly on 22nd September. This is going well so far! Entering uncharted territory though, haven't been this light since I was a kid!!"And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

Good work guys! Putting me to shame.
Unfortunately Billy, I weighed myself this morning....mid-week, far away from the excesses of the weekend.
But I'm back on the wagon ( so to speak) so the pounds are bound to fall off.......0 -
-
Well, it's reading 0kg to go!! Well done!!
BTW, I find weighing myself every day helps. Keeps the guilt level constant..."And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

ooh a weight loss thread. my pet subject.
I was a whopping 19.5 stone (273lbs / 124kg) at the beginning of march then my dad had a stroke (from which he's recovering fully slowly but surely) and it was a kick in the ar$e for me to get in shape.
As of yesterdays weigh in I have now lost exactly 5 stone (70lbs / 32 kg) and have another 2 stone (28lbs / 12kg) to go before I'm at my 'goal weight' but I fully expect that to change as I want to start adding some strength training into my exercise regime and solidify my wobbly bits so my weight may end up going back up while I'm still losing body fat.
If anyone's interested in how i did it I keep a sporadically updated blog at http://fitby30.co.uk/Hat + Beard0 -
Good on ya hatbeard...that is most impressive! Defo putting me to shame.
Got my target set now.....Etape Du Tour Act 1...the mini marmotte......Telegraphe, Galibier, Lauteret & finish on Alpe D'Huez.....

p.s. I also use myfitnesspal for my weight loss. I find it very good although my weight seems to refuse to go down at the moment and if i'm even remotely bad in my eating it shoots upHat + Beard0 -
I think the calories burned are wrong, too high, I manually enter mine."And the Lord said unto Cain, 'where is Abel thy brother?' And he said, 'I know not: I dropped him on the climb up to the motorway bridge'."

Hat beard,
I'm using LIVESTRONG.COM myplate to track calories.....huge database...very impressed with it.0 -
Currently 186lbs - weighed Sunday evening before bed.
Target is to lose a stone - 172lbs - by Christmas and keep it off for the whole of next season.
Lightest I've been since was a teenager is 12stone - that was about 7 years ago when I took up marathon running - heaviest is 14 stone - that was about 10 years ago. Most of the time I've been cycling I've been around 175 lbs but the last couple of years that's crept up.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
hi im 49 year old male about 17st and have been cycling for aprox 15 years i have put on weight over the past year of no cycling i am on a low fat diet and have started going on the turbo and walking at least 45 mins daily and hope to return to lesure riding in the spring hopefully slimmergoing downhill slowly0

Current weight this morning is 202 lbs.......target weight is 172....30 lbs......so it works out about 1 lbs a week between now & the etape du tour.
Game on....
Had to have a rethink about training though....during the week the weather's so bad here I'm gonna have to hammer the turbo & go outside Saturday & Sunday!0 -

Aiming for 52kg`s by the spring... Im only 5`1" tall though
I am currently 59kgs and was 65kgs spring of this year.... so getting there slowly...
I promised myself a new bike if I hit my target... (but then I would have lost almost 2 bikes worth of lard...so may not need one..)
