3:03 today after 30 lone training miles, quite pleased with that as felt a lot more than 20 seconds off PB form so far this year. Hoping there's some decent form round the corner.

Wow. Had a crack at this last night, untimed I might add, and really struggled. Now I know I've not been putting in the miles, etc., but I thought the recent bout of weight loss might have helped. But no. Used to be able to do the lot in the big ring, but by the time I got to the second 'steep' bit, I was in the small chain ring and 21-tooth sprocket. Dismal show.

So I punished myself by doing an unnecessary ascent of Benson Road.

I WILL get up in under three minutes by 1 July or I'll do it starkers.

    That's a rash promise.

Heh. Some would say (possibly rightly) I'd be doing everyone a favour there. :D

And it is of course possible I'll still be panting my way up the final slope at that point.

Puny excuse, but we'll let that pass.

I had a day off today, so cycled over to Richmond Park (from Crystal Palace) to put in a few laps. I thought the hills in RP were supposed to be steep? Not a patch on College Road (or Westwood Hill, for that matter).

Got some proper practice in yesterday having a good old tussle with someone on a Planet X up Denmark Hill - if that was you, it's no good standing up sprinting and building a lead of 20 metres if you can't make it stick all the way to the top. :D

Did College Road in around 3.45, then did Benson Road and the 17% monster that is Canonbie road, just to get some hills in the legs. If I carry on doing that route home every day, I'll be flying up College Road like it's flat as a pancake.

First crack at this for a while - 2:53 so 3 seconds off a PB in commuter mode. Hopefully my climbing legs are making a comeback!

First shot at this since about January I think. I thought I would try to get near 3 mis but was feeling good by half way so cranked it up. 2.58 . . . that'll do nicely :D

In fairness, I was on sunday best bike with no bag, which isn't really in the spirit of things but to counter that I've been smoking like a chimney for the last four months and I've only JUST given up. My lungs hurt like hell at the top . . .

    29 days to go - no pressure Ketsbaia . . . :P

Did it in 3.15 the other night - big ring all the way.

Like you Hamish, I need to get rid of the smoking, which I've been hammering this year for reasons I won't bother going in to now.

Only spotted this forum a couple of weeks ago - I sometimes take a long cut home that way and do some repeats, but I've never timed myself until recently.

    So:
2.58 is my PB on the road bike
3.02 is my PB on the single speed (rucksack, mudguards and heavy tyres. Must have had a tailwind...).

They both hurt a lot. Can't see myself going much faster than that...

    Get the fcuk in.

2.57 this evening, right at the start of my 47-mile jaunt in the Kent Hills. OK, I was on 'the flyer' and had no bag and I know it's already July so I didn't quite do it by the end of June, etc.

    But I did it. :D

Wish I hadn't, though, as it fair buggered me right up for the rest of the ride.

    Chapeau sir! Good effort!

    However . . .

4th of July not the end of June is [/yoda]. You know what to do

I don't remember specifying the year, so 4th July 2011 counts as before the end of June 2012. :D

2:54 last night, was on 3 minute pace until the final third but had some in reserve and a big kick up the final ramps saw me home. I need to have a go on the good bike and without the bag - kept having to sit down and push it back into place as was threatening to swing round off my back - annoying...

Did a bang on 3 minutes with a bag on last night and there was a head wind too. Felt so good I went back down Sydenham Hill and the South Circular and did it again.

Wasn't quite so quick the second time. :D

No bag, but no timing either this evening. Was all about repetition. Did five times up there, once with a decent and ascent of Dulwich Wood Park/College road thrown in, the rest doing laps of Sydenham Hill, A205, College Road, Fountain Drive.

    Ooooof.

Jesus, everyone is getting quicker! Need to get back and give this a go now I'm a bit stronger.

Ketsbaia, that's a big improvement - if I been get within 10 second I'll be happy.

I've lost a lot of weight since last year. The equivalent of the difference between going up on a big old mountain bike or on a sleek carbon race-prepped flyer.

Took the best bike on a shakedown ride and thought I'd finish off with a run up College Road. Legs didn't feel great and I was baulked three times on the way up including braking to a near stop as a BMW did a three point turn. Topped 20mph on the final run up to the roundabout but eased up as I caught traffic. I wasn't expecting a good time so was quite surprised at coming in substantially under three minutes. I'll go for a clear run tomorrow and see what I can do.

If you're topping 20mph going up to the roundabout, I'm surprised you're not threatening 2 minutes, tbh. MTFU*.

    (*good effort, sir)
