Penylope wrote:The current shape Heckler had an issue with the swingarm on the first few batches i believe, something to do with cracks around the pivot point on the swingarm. SC isolated the problem, redesigned the swingarm and replaced current rear ends without any problems (hastle if you already had one admitedly ) now if you buy a 2010 frame they have the new swingarm on.
Knowing this already i still ordered a Heckler, i like living dangerously  :P
It was the pinchbolts on the swingarm pivot that failed in some, not the frame itself. SC redesigned the current Heckler with 15mm pivot axel as the last generation would could fail at the pivot weld. I had the most catastpohic failure I have seen of any SC frame; but It didn't put me off buying the new generation Heckler. You can get a replacement (UK specific) bearing set for IIRC £80. I opted for the FOC bike shop replacement bearings. They need replacing again but hey...better than replacing all those bushings on an FSR All recent Hecklers have the collet axle. The newest Hecklers don't have the head tube gusset because SC believe the frame is that strong. They haven't changed the warranty or anything [OMGWTFBBQ].
PS. To all the haters, please feel free to slag off warranty terms of the UK equivelant of the Heckler...the Orange Alpine 160

Long convoluted thread now but think of it this way:
The Bugatti Veyron comes with a 2 year standard warranty.
Bowler Wildcat has a 3 year year standard warranty.
Two of the best cars in the world in their respective fields - not exactly generous warranties given the level of technology, performance, prestige and cost.
You'd think they'd give long warranties as a selling point - confidence in their brand. Well - they don't because:
a) They don't need to, people will buy them anyway.
b) They are not as desperate as Kia - 7 year warranties costs them alot of money (but its their main selling point or you'd just buy a ford for the same money like a sensible person)
c)Santa Cruz have the priviledge of being in the same position as Bugatti. or Bowler.Lapierre Spicy 516 XTR custom (2013) -http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=129323320 -
Bugattis are notoriously unreliable, and if a bowler wildcat is driven the way it's intended, it will never last 3 years0

Perhaps you fell asleep during the convoluted discussion and missed the post where all of your points were covered already?0 -
karen44 wrote:so palerider you paid £200 for a santa cruz frame and yet the retail value on some santa cruz frames is £2000 with a 2 year warranty you did very well but this backs my point up perfectly the consumer is being shafted for a boutique piece of jewellery with a crap warranty, i rest my case.
