Doing my first 10 mile TT THIS YEAR tomoz maybe

I'll need to be riding on feel though and what I think is say 25mph, I won't have a speedo or HRM on or anything.0
-
Well if you're riding completely free of Data (what about that Garmin of yours, by the way?), you'll just have to gauge roughly the time you expect to be able to ride a 10 in and go as hard as you can for that time.
Otherwise, just splat yourself and see what happens."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I have to ride on feel at the moment since my computer's broken - I too find myself going too hard a the start - I've even shouted at myself to settle down. I certainly try to keep steady for the first few minutes, then ramp up a bit.
So long as you're blowing out your arse at the end you've done about as much as you can - I try to peg a landmark at the 9 mile mark and bury myself there - unless I know there's a climb inside the last mile, then the summit is my bury it point!Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0 -
Further to what I said above, if you're going completely on feel, then it should feel as though you're riding within yourself and have everything under control in the first half, then it hurts more and more in the second half.
Pacing a 10 on heart rate is also difficult, but it can be done. You're aiming to gradually increase your HR right the way through the race. Again in the first half it won't be that high: your max in that section will probably be close to your average for the whole race.
If you do go out too hard, then just hang on and sufferJeff Jones

Ive only done unofficial tens ( with mates etc) and Ive found the best thing to pace is to do as JJ says get up to you percived average speed asap and sit at it religiously, there are plenty of times where I feel I can gun it but know full well that I'll pay fior it - I use HR as purely incidental info unless limit alarms start going off on a bady day !0

Now then Head boy.... Now i know this is your ere t'internet rag but leave the pleasantries aside for a moment. This young scamper should be arriving at the line dripping profusely so the timekeeper has to cover the deck in sand before the next competitor arrives. He needs to be on the rivet from the gun. 53 x 15 for the first 400 yards then slam it in the 12 and chew on the bars for as long as possible.
If all has gone to plan then there should be a visible rupture in the rear of his shorts revealing the use of effective breathing technique.
Thats all for now.0 -

Gonna get this post framed and hung on the wall alongside the "What doesn't kill me makes me stronger" poster- top advice!0 -
I only have 50/12 hardest gear.0

Pfft, I assume that the 50 is your inner chainring as otherwise you should be stopped from taking part in a time trial
What's happened to the testing world? Someone above was going on about cadences of 90, any tester worth his salt knows you self combust at anything over 60rpm, the whole world's gone soft! :shock:0 -
Thick Tester's gonna slay you for using a compact0

I think the phrase is "Oxygen Thieves"
Fark me that's a bit harsh!
1) My post isn't serious so keep your knickers on.
2) I didn't 'bust' you did I. I didn't post a page to your times did I.
3) The main focus of my comment was at Bhima's continued stream of 'gold standard' B/S
I just found it properly funny that some guy pops up with several times by yourself (will) when the thread title suggests you've never done a TT before. Don't get stressed about it. Maybe learn to laugh about it. Afterall it's just an innocent misunderstanding right? The thread title is meant to mean it's your first TT of the year.
If I was trying to ave a go i would have.

How did it go Will? Got my first time in 14 years posted which is a new PW of 31.17. To give some context of how poor I was the winning time was 21.30, I got caught by every minute man / woman up to 7 minutes and I was 7 minutes slower than my PB also set on the same course
In my defence I was riding a standard road bike and no tri bars (one of only 3 to do so), I had a slight buckle in my back wheel and when I finished I noticed my front wheel rubbing slightly on the brakes which when I stopped actually translated in the wheel not even turning a full revolution when I spun it. Add to this I am fat and unfit (which is possibly the main contributory factor ).
On the plus side it sets me up well for the club handicap series as I have plenty of scope to improve0 -
I'm happy but it's abit meh tbh.
It was my PB for a 10 mile by 1 second.
I did it in 25:400 -
That's a good effort on a road bike! Especially for a first ever TT.0
-
First ever TT this year.0
-
It was a tough night though, bit of a gusty wind that never seemed to help you much.
I did 25.06 for the record, not great but ok considering 3 month old baby/no sleep/naff all training0 -
Good time.
I'm gonna have to recover for like 2 days before the enxt event and possibly try get a lift, I reckon that'll improve my times compared to not riding tue/wed and riding the 23 miles to the TT and not going slowly.
And then adding on top a TT bike I wonder how much that'd improve my times.0 -
Just get some clip on TT bars. I did 24.55 on that course on my ribble winter bike with clip-ons.0
-
this topic's put me off doing a TT.
might wait by the roadside with a stick instead.LOL road riding.0 -

I don't... Purely because most people on here are honest about their achievements and abilities and about the work they put into them. He just spouts any old nonsense that comes into his head and then refuses to engage with anybody who questions it.
Maybe I'm taking it all too seriously, but it really gets on my nerves. I'd be less annoyed about his fantasy world if, just once, he'd do what he constantly says he will and pinned a number on to demonstrate these amazing performances to the world."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Will, that's a good time. Well done! If you're taking a liking to this TT lark do as other poster have said & stick some cheapo TT bars on.
Ps, it would appear that you are getting a bit of stick of late...you seem to be rising above it just fine. Good on ya!
Re: Bhima, might well be a bs merchant but part of me secretly hopes if he does finally stick a number on he cashes the cheques his gob are writing.0 -
Yes I might be considering getting some clip on tri bars, but part of me wants to just stick with what I have now and try and improve with this, then when I'm doing good times, like under 25's on the same course, then whack on some tri bars and see what I do.
My legs are aching abit today, I really hope they're recovered for tomoz as I've volunteered to lead a ride for the Mcr Wheelers, 60 miles flat with some interval efforts in, what I never told them is it's got Mow Cop in
Then on Sunday I've got a ride out with Seamons CC, that's apparently fast. Then I plan on taking it easy in the week, a hard session on Tuesday or Wednesday then any riding steady till the weekend after that.
I really want under 25 though, I'd be happy to shave 1 min off of my time and I reckon maybe I could.
Yesterday, in the warm up, I was thinking this is easy to maintain 25mph, I took it steady most of the time as I had the TT to do, but then I started the TT, and my legs where like aching straight away with lactic build up, I never started massively fast but I reckon I did start too fast. Then all the way around I felt uncomfy, my legs where hurting abit, not with the lactic build up, with more like a cramp pain all over my legs I can only describe it, I never feel comfortable when I push to the max.
I got overtook by one guy on this awesome looking carbon TT bike with disc wheels, if the dip, then the long drag kept on going for any longer I'd have probs being right behind him as I started catching up to him on that.0 -
I never feel comfortable when I push to the max
I think that's kind of the point and why it's called the max0 -
