Bad day for Evans, but reckon it's still between him and Sastre for the GC.
Vino's got a fair chance, but there's no way Nibali or Basso will win.0 -
Some good photos:

Some teams really got an absolute soaking.

Evans has twittered that BMC were the only, or last team to suffer crosswinds. Lotto and the rest had a tailwind.............he says. :?
What is your beef with Cadel / BMC Blaze?
Nothing at all.
He's actually my pick for the GC, on another forum.
I just do it for effect. :P

Why not? I think it's pretty open."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

I reckon Basso and Nibali will suffer in the final week when it gets really steep. Vino too, and I'd have put Evans into that category a couple of years ago, but he's become a resilient b*gger in the high mountains since then.
It's either going to be him or Sastre, I reckon. You're right though, it does seem nicely open - just fancied a flutter on Sastre at 15/2 so had a good think about what's likely to happen.
Looks like I'll be 'supporting' Sastre for the rest of the tour then!0 -
Nearly had a cheeky few quid on Nibali at 30's when he was suddenly dropped into the race but for some reason I left it....he's now come in to about 8 which would have been worth laying off. I'm not sure who's going to win but I don't think it will be Evans, can see him having a really bad day somewhere in the race. Just a hunch, nothing more.0

You can normally get good odds on grand tours. In fact, I only bet on them - never on other sports and v rarely on one day classics cos they're hard to call and the odds don't seem to reflect that.
Reckon the bookies mess up on grand tours quite a bit - I got 9/1 on menchov to win the giro last year and won 180 quid and 7/1 on contador to win the tour just before rassmussen was pulled out.
Menchov is still 40/1 for the tour this summer and I've snapped that up as an each way. 10/1 on Menchov to finish top three is cheap as chips!0 -

His wife, Chiara, as mentioned by others, is Italian and they do live on the Italian border.
McEwan and Evans probably benefit from the Australian Institute of Sport having had its European training base for cycling in Varese since they started their careers.0 -

Garzelli seems to agree with Evans though about the cross winds changing to tailwind for the later teams. Plus I think Evans also quoted Graham Watson as well in reference to the wind directions.
This from Garzelli website (google translation)The dreaded time trial of Cuneo, 33 km long straight, caused an earthquake in the overall standings, with the Liquigas team that dominated the race, won the pink jersey with Nibali and completed the podium in second place provisionally with Basso and the Agnolli third.
For the Acqua & Sapone - Angel & Antenucci, a bad day and unfortunate.
"Today we gave everything and I am grateful to the team - the words of Stephen - Unfortunately 'our distance was greater than we thought ahead. We knew that below a certain formations but I think we were also quite unlucky with the climatic conditions, if we think that when we started it was raining, and especially important while blowing a headwind the last 4 or 5 teams have found the wind behind us, that demonstration is to lose 50 to intermediate "from Liquigas and the goal we 'm 2'39 "or 1'50" in more 'than half the race, posting a 15 km that is really inexcusable only athletic performance.
Too bad, because we counted to lose at least 1 'less but now, it is useless recrimination, we must look forward and be confident. With regard to my condition, but today I had good sensations, the pace when I felt my leg that ran pretty well, so I just have to wait for the next steps to try to recover something.
Friday there will be a detour, it could get a group then we will evaluate if there is the possibility to make the sprint to win the stage, but 'I admit that I hold particularly the arrival of Montalcino and Terminillo, where he won in 2003.0 -
So, I watched it last night rather than just reading it online. Nibali said Basso was very strong during the TTT and I did notice he looked like he was going pretty well.
I wonder if his confidence is up after the Dutch stages - The guys in the CN podcast were thinking a lot of his problems were mental. I guess it depends really how he climbs in the first couple of tests.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0 -
Look at Vino's face on the front and then those of the riders behind!
