Not bad for Sastre. Gains time on Evans.

Huge for Sastre, especially assuming Wiggins/Sky sticks to not going for overall. It puts Sastre in a very good position. Particularly because TT's are usually where he loses time, not gains it.

Such a shame. I think if VDV was still there, Garmin's top two for sure.

How does this affect Millar's GC hopes today?

Funny on RAI, they were interviewing Millar and he's speaking in English, they're translating, and at the end, he's describing how the course was tougher in the second half and he pauses and says, "It was deceptive. Deceptive." And the translator stutters and then says, "uh...thank you...good bye." LOL.

If only he'd gone a second or two faster on day 1, eh?

Cadel's better half is Italian, I think.

    Yeah, like you don't know.

I'm just going in with my tape measure. I'll be back in a few hours.

how they decide the running order?

    Team classimication, reverse order.

Thought it was reverse rider GC.

Huh. I was going by what Harmon said, but now that I look, it's not the teams classification, but not reverse GC either.

Millar is 3rd, but Garmin are 7th last off the ramp. I dunno...

The teams go off in reverse team classification BUT the top 3 teams are shuffled into the reverse order of their best placed riders.

No, I don't know why either.

    Omega finishing plenty above BMC?

I had to let out a little chuckle.

How often has that happened with four stages at the start of a GT with four different leaders?

Nibali v Basso. Let the in-fighting begin!

(Bit of a shame Basso's too nice for that.)

I remember the Vuelta having about 4 different Postal leaders in 2004.

Not only within the team: Basso is from Varese, Nibali from Sicily.

    North Italy vs South Italy

Basically ALL the contenders took time out of Cuddles, today, yes?
Both he and Vino were ripping the legs off their respective teams.
I think Vince might be happy with his 11th hour drafting.

He took time from...er......Scarponi and Garzelli, however.
Evans has twittered that BMC were the only, or last team to suffer crosswinds. Lotto and the rest had a tailwind.............he says. :?

Only Scarponi and Garzelli lost a bit, but with the teams they've got that was pretty much a guarantee. Scarponi must be hoping all those Colombians go uphill better than they TT!!!

You have to hand it to him, he leaves omega because he wants a stronger team and goes to a weaker one!

I think the issue is more that Lotto were still crap after 3 years there. I suspect a TdF TTT in 2011 or 12 will see a very different BMC team.

Very possibly, but then again it might not. Any more failed drug tests and they will be on thin ice with ASO?

They'd had one positive test and handled it well. ASO like Cadel and they BMC management are in nicely with the ASO.

Anyway, a few journalists confirming the wind for BMC wasn't as favourable as for the later starters.

What is your beef with Cadel / BMC Blaze?

Yeah, they're not the strongest team in in the world. Move on. He's in a good mental place at BMC and now we've got a World Champion giving it a go to win a GT.

Basso and Nibs are the main contenders who are still ahead of him. Well, and goofed up Vino obviously. Sastre is still behind overall.

My main concern is he started the Giro in way too good shape and won't be able to maintain it.
