How Heavy are Your Wheels

Hi guys last night I was messing around breaking fixed parts of my new bike.
I had the front wheel off and the first thing I noticed was how light it was, I know that the heavier the wheels are the more effort you need to turn them.
The wheels are Alex RHD rims with spesh fastrack LK sport 2.0 tyres along with the disc rotor it came to just 1944 grams.
Is this a light wheel compared to the average cyclist or is there some weight yet to be saved

That's very light for a front wheel, a new word record?
I run XTR hubs on DT XR4.2d rims with Sapim spokes.
1410 grammes for both front and reat (minus cassette/QRs/tyres/tubes)0 -

Loads more weight to be saved, mine's 1390g (1.22b lighter), w/Spesh Sauserwind control tyre, hope 6 bolt saw rotor, kcnc skewer, stans sealant0 -
oops decimal point removed from OP
How much weight do you think I could save taking the inner tube out and going tubeless, is it worth it?0 -
To be honest tubeless isnt really about weight saving. The rims can be a bit heavier than a normal rim,tape/strip may be required and also UST tyres can be quite heavy as they have to hold air.
You can get light UST wheels of the shelf they are the likes of Mavic Crossmax, Easton Haven etc. The main reason for me going tubeless is avoidance of pinch flats
I run MAVIC XM819 on Hope pro 2. Not the lightest but reliable and stay round even after losing a spoke or 2.

Tubeless can be lighter, both of mine are lighter without tubes than with. But if you're doing rim strips or "ghetto" with BMX tubes it's likely you'll end up heavier than you would with sensibly lightweight tubes, not lighter (people who want to make tubeless sound like it's light always make comparisons with heavy tubes for some reason )
Tubeless is good for reliability/punctureproofing though. If you want an easier option then Schwalbe XXlight tubes are around 100g and cost about £7, despite being light they're not fragile as some superlight tubes are.Uncompromising extremist0 -
tubeless setup with tubless tyres, rims, sealent ect usually come up heavyer than tubes and std tyres.
but like mentiond have advantages of running low pressures and puncture resistance.0 -

Lighter than what? A heavy tube?A sensible light tube is only 100 grams, plus about 10g for a light rim strip or tape while the stans rim strip is 56 grams according to Stans, plus about 60g of sealant.
BMX tube conversions are generally heavier, I weighed my split tube at 70g.Uncompromising extremist0 -

No they dont when I tried tubeless I weighed before and after and saved precisely 0 grams. That was with a Stans kit you dont go tubeless to save weight.Fig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -
I did. But then I have proper tubeless wheels Even then the saving's not huge, but it's there.Uncompromising extremist0

OK what do I need to go tubeless, sealant, new tubeless tyres.
How does the sealant work, can you still get punctures but the sealant seals it back up.
And how about putting air in the tyres, would the valve not get blocked,
Link to thread about tubeless conversion maybe0 -
Try a website called Just Riding Along - it shows the methods that you can use to go tubeless.
As mentioned above, it is not always lighter.0 -
Yeah got that, new rims hubs etc to get it lighter. Ill have a look at that website thanks0

How heavy are my wheels? Not sure.

Will get my new rear wheel weighed tomorrow before it gets fitted - lightish I think - Hope 2 Pro hub, Mavic Xc717 rim. Front is a Spesh Stout hub on DT Swiss rims. Can't remember which specific rim. I really rate Stout front hubs - my 1997 Stumpy one is still completely smooth!0

I just fitted a 2.4 rubber queen to my front wheel. It's now too heavy for me to lift Does ride nicely though.Uncompromising extremist0

ooh i know this
1860g
and i have the same rims as you.

1755g for the pair, no rotors/tyres/tubes etc.
2009 Mavic Crossmax SX...don't run tubeless because you still get punctures from thorns and sealant is messy and adds weight. It's easier to bung a spare tube in.0 -
I recently swapped over to a ghettos tubeless setup.
The original setup weight with Nevegal 2.1 tyre, Mavic XM117 rim, tube, liner was 1900 gms.
Tyre weight - 605 gms; tube wt - 200 gms; rim wt - 975 gms; Liner wt - 120 gms.
Weight of my ghetto setup (total) is - 1800 gms. A saving of 100 gms.
But I run low pressures and have had zero flats in the last 2 months. The month before that had 6 flats.
It took a little time to do but so far I'm happy.0 -
1750g for the pair, no rotors/tyres/tubes etc.
DT Swiss, EX1750.
The relatively high weight can be forgiven when you consider that they are an enduro wheelset and not a lightweight XC set.0 -
Just under 1500g 'naked' for my set of Stans 355 rims with Superstar hubs (superfast/superleggera titanium), alloy nipples and CXRay sapim spokes..0
-
New rear is 925g according to Hope's website.
No idea what the front weigh or how much lighter the new rear is than the old one - presuming it should be a fair bit less? I hope!0 -
1635 for the front - and that's as fitted to the bike (tyre, tube, Skewer, disc + rotor)
2096 for the rear - again, as fitted to the bike (tyre, tube, skewer, disc, rotor + cassette)
Could be lighter, but I'm quite happy with the current set up.0
