An Epic bleed fit for the Formula's and a new set of Royal Air gloves, the old set finally gave up the ghost after a years service and got about 5 holes at the same time making them unusable
  • Maxxis Minion DHF and DHR 2.35 folding Kevlar.

Went for strength and grip over weight in the end, at 700g each I've added a whopping 80g to my bike!
Hopefully the tyres will arrive next-day as the shop name would suggest.

I think thats the safest way to go racing at this time of the year anyway, you'll have more than 80g of mud stuck to your bike after the first few meters anyway.

  • Exactly my thoughts. Plus I've also noticed I always end up coming home with about 1l of water left in my camelbak. and I'm fat

This will be my first ever XC race, 4x ~20min laps. Quite looking forward to it actually.

Ah the too much water thing, i learnt that after my first season of using a camel pack, i now use a bottle (but thats in the summer) i now have a bottle with a really anoying cap over the mouth peice which works while normal riding, not so great racing.

On the bottle note, at night/cold i'm using my full face helmet, what bottles etc does everyone use? is it a case of putting the camel pack back on?

The shop name was, as suspected, quite accurate. Arrived just after 10am. Now fitted to the bike wondering how Maxxis and Schwalbe have such vastly different ideas of what 2.35 actually means.
The Minions seem narrower, and nowhere near as tall as the Alberts. That's a good thing though, so I'm still happy.

i found that too. think it's so they cut through mud better or they are just not "bedded in" atm

Keeping the theme going, a pair of Minion dual-plies off Ebay. But mahoosive draggy ones  Oh and probably the tartiest thing I've ever bought, a new Fox Attack shirt in white purely because it'll look better on video than my usual black kit.
