a new Hope ceramic BB. Old one was getting very crunchy crunchy, and a "mate" who promised me replacement berings for it, and a bearing press to fit them has failed to deliver.

Mind me asking how much you paid?

Also, let me know what you think when you've had chance to test it a bit. They look like they'd fit the bill for riding round here if the Pro-tection sidewalls are as good as the snakeskin stuff from Schwalbe.

sure, it was £36 I think.
I'm not sure whether to put it on the front or the back. At the moment I have Kenda Nevegal DTCs. The rear one has worn away.
I'm either going to move the perfectly fine front kenda to the rear, and put the conti on the the front, or just put the conti on the back.
I mean, it's not going to dry out now until next year (and that's if we're lucky), and the black chilli stuff, if it does what it sayd on the tin, could be great for those sketchy climbs over wet rocks.
  • I'm in much the same position. My rear Fat Albert is near enough a slick now, but the one currently on the front is still in great condition. I'd probably keep the albert on the front depending on how big the MKs come up. I need big volume on the back to stop the ride being too harsh.

I'd be interested in knowing the outcome on that tyre too, yehaa. I'm running a larsen tt at the mo, and it's a bit interesting now it's muddy. Looking for a suitable replacement for the winter!

Right, basically, standard non-black-chili Contis are completely crap, right? Made out of old records or something. And what black chili does is make the tyre much more expensive, and in return makes them about as good as everyone else's tyres are, just that they don't bang on about it as much or charge £40 for. Quite quick though your mountain king.

I dunno Northwind. I had a non black-chilli vertical before, and the grip was fantastic. Far better than Kenda Nevegals. But, the tyre used to get chunks torn out of it on the flint and slate round here. Hell, even on normal rocky trails I'd end up with enormous chunks of tyre vanishing.
    But it DID grip well.
