Depending on the spec you are going for, if you are buying some 2nd parts ofcourse, debatable .
I actually ordered something now:
Shimano 416 Mechanical disc brake for the rear. Was a bargain on amazon. Saved £30 and came to £20!
I dont know if the calliper is a Deore one but the disc im sure is a Deore one.

Isn't the more beers less gears a fixie thing?0
-
Yep, it's going on the singlespeed summer season 69er rigid build when that gets going, but seeing as I was placing an order I figured I'd get it now to save on the shipping and have it on the El Guapo for a bit for fun more than anything else, at least until new headset time fitted then I'll just have a standard works one in
I've also gone for a mud sweat and gears as a gift for the cousin, a motivational one for the roadie and got a couple of others for some mates on the way too.0 -

I can do it fine, but it's no where near as fun and I think alot of people go faster with the seat down. Joys of a dropper is as soon it heads up again as it often does on a trail, you don't have to stop and ruin the flow. Don't knock it til you try it...
Wasnt knocking it, it is actually a brilliant idea, always wondered why some people had cables coming from their seat post (dont laugh at me, and ive only seen pictures of these) just was a little shocked at the price.
Now that you mention "ruining the flow" it begins to make more sense.
£160 is a very good price for a dropper, I payed £250 for my Reverb. But it is a really top piece of kit, and they don't come cheap.
Wow! £250! And i guess it would really wee-wee you off eventually having to get on and off adjusting saddle position to the point where that price is fine. Im yet to ride my first trail or DH track (I hate living in London) so i wouldnt really know. If you pay £250 it must be a top piece of kit for sure.
When you splash £2k on a frame bud, it's a small price to pay for added convenience
Oh and Shimano's mechanical brakes suck btw I used to go through a set of pads a ride back when I first started and for those who know my stance on Avid, sit down this might surprise you, they're cable brakes are actually rather good. £30 for a mechanical caliper does sound alot though.0 -
Can I just ask before I press the buy button on a reverb. Does 100mm make that much difference, I just can't imagine that making the difference in height that I'd want. Or would I be better going for 125? It's just I can get a good price on a 100mm version but haven't seen 125mm for anywhere near the same.0

Not even a good price on the german websites, bike-discount, hibike, rose etc.?0 -

Would LOVE to splash out that much on a frame. And yeah when you put it that way... doesnt sound expensive at all.
Its for a DJ bike so i doubt ill be testing them to their full potential anyhow. Would have loved to stay with the V brakes but ive got no mounts on my Chucker
I was having a look at hydros when i first started thinking about brakes but i think thats way over kill for a beginner with a DJ bike. These brakes are the best deal ive found so i opted for them.
I heard good words about the BB7s but i reckon for the price of them i may aswell have went for hydros, both of which are out of budget.
Thanks for the warning though0 -

There is some good prices there but when it comes to the stealth, (I don't want another wire hanging round the bike) I know 40 quid isn't much in the whole scheme of things when you consider their price anyway, but I'm on a tight budget and not 100% convinced on having one so not overly fussed if i don't end up getting one.0 -

Brakes are an area I like to get the best I can afford, it's a pretty crucial area on any bike, no matter what ability and a decent set will save you money in the long run. Chain reaction have deores fully bled and ready to go for a little over £40 per end
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=67246
Barring a slightly less blingy finish they are as good as any shimano brakes, even XT and XTR, worth every penny.
Also buying bike parts from Amazon is never a good idea. Much better to get it from a proper bike retailer.0 -
Pah, who needs brakes. I never slow down...0

Agreed on brakes. I have these on my Stinky and they are brilliant.0 -

Ive got no disc either though. Mind you, thats a fkin bargain but im building the bike up from scratch. Ill favourite that link as kind of like my "stage 2" upgrade. I just want to get it rolling with half decent parts, then ill start saving for the better parts. Id probably be happy with the mechanicals for the time being.
The only parts ive actually got at the minute are:
-handlebars
-fork
-BB + Cranks + Pedals
-Got a hussefelt stem on the way
and thats it!
So you can see why i dont want to go top end with any of the parts right now. It will be a work in progress build and it will get there eventually. Thanks for the help lawman!0 -
Nothing exciting. Some carbon assembly paste, two KMC missing links (tried finding the one that was supposed to be in my bag on Sunday to give a stricken rider at Lee and it'd disappeared) and some cheap ebay scales, just so I can weigh the bits I take off the bike.0

A pair of these in dark blue flavour:
And a pair these to stick me to them:
“Life has been unfaithful
And it all promised so so much”
