    I know.

Shorts, fingerless mitts and no jacket today. I thought maybe I'd overslept by about 3 months!

And another gorgeous commute this morning. (Relatively) empty roads, the sun shining over the river, warm and dry - if someone had dried the roads out as well, it would have been perfect.

My four day xmas break has become five. Not needed in work today but still have to pop in tomorrow to get workwear for washing etc.

EDIT Not having to work tonight means I can watch Mark Cavendish win SPOTY whilst trying to wrap xmas presents.

The coals in my barbie are within a couple of minutes of being ready for the steaks!

How good is that for December?

Pootling in this morning into a bit of a wind, and I'm away with the fairies tbh daydreaming about when it'll be summer again and these bare fields will be golden seas of wheat & barley & my old chum the greenfinch who likes to fly alongside will be back to give the rabbits & squirrels something to sit in the road and look at and suddenly there's a bicyclist alongside me offering a cheery good morning, so we ride together to the next village chatting about this & that and everything & nothing until he peels off to do his miles and I toddle in to work. The nicest man on the planet, if I'm not much mistaken. Chapeau sir.

Did anyone notice Cav won last night? I reckon my vote swung it, and he mentioned me personally in his speech, 'commuting & riding for fun' he said. That'll be me then.

Cycled home tonight in a howling monsoon & got completely drenched yet arrived home grinning like a muppet; that was fun, after the first mile into a headwind. Even the PF couldn't catch me - the rear went flat as I rolled onto the drive at home. How neat was that?

Just wrapped a Christmas present for the wife... going to sneak it under the tree when I get in with a note saying "Sorry its late, didnt realised you'd moved - Santa" on it.

    She gets a nice treat.

I save on £80 on RRP.

    Everyone's a winner.

Got a trip to the theatre tomorrow; The Theatre Of Dreams, aka Old Trafford. Boy Elder is a manure nited fan and has finally convinced me to take him to OT so tomorrow’s the day, v Blackburn. I’m hoping for a home defeat as a start, and also to sit quietly reading a book throughout, looking up occasionally only to tut at the dirty diving cheating red scum and hopefully get myself ejected after 4 minutes for not ‘living the dream’.

    I can hope.
  • Ribble Gran Fondo got a crack. The frame has been sent off for 2 months to italy for a fix up/ respray.

:D Bought me a barely used BMC SLC01 Pro Machine from the classifieds at a bargain price as a temporary stop gap built up with my now frameless parts. 2 days later- I now climb like a mountain goat- it is a frigging awesome frame! Super stiff, light as air and looks the business.

now i must decided between the two when the Ribble makes its eventual return. hhhmmmm. gotta say, its a happy choice to have to make!

Ebuyer delivered my new PSU a day early, my PC is now back up and running with plenty of videos to edit. Netbooks are OK for internet browsing but no good for editing video.

  • Two saves yesterday. Tail wind 20mph approaching a junction, I'm on autopilot, failed to check the junction in advance and didn't spot an approaching car, slammed on brakes, back wheel went flying out at which point I almost shat myself. Thankfully the autopilot had already disengaged my left foot from the clip and I managed to recover in a Hollywood style without getting squished or coming off - this is an epic achievement for me as I'm always eating the tarmac. Second time, same journey - forgot I had the slicks on - powered through a small wooded area, hit some mud and the same thing happened - back wheel went out. No idea how I managed to stay upright, foot out, skid and kept control. I'm back on the bike again tomorrow, see how it goes or maybe I should quit whilst ahead :-)

To counterbalance my rant, I'd just like to thank 99% of the drivers on my commute during Christmas and earlier this week. Much appreciated :).

Buoyed up by the dry & moderate forecast, I've got the bib shorts and road bike back out and returned the longs to the tallboy and the MTB to the shed, alongside the ice bike. Woo and indeed hoo for the resumption of fast commutes.

I gave an unused wireless router to a friend who is temporarily living with her parents again. I plugged it all in and it worked perfectly straight away. No password needed on the hardwired desktop PC and only the SSID which was written on the bottom of the router for the wireless devices to work.

Maybe computer bods knew this would happen, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The smell wafting over the road from British Bakeries Ltd. near Mitcham junction. Mmmmmmmmm baking; every night this week that warm sweet aroma has filled my nostrils.

First proper frost here this morning - lovely, sunny and crisp windless ride in to the office.

On arrival I hear that we are out of milk for coffee "I'll get it" I chirrup cheerfuly as I turn the bike around and point it at the shops a mile away. :-D

We're getting the rest of our windows fitted today, in particular the 4.2m wide front one. It was so cold in the living room (where the thermostat for the heating is) the heating came on despite being turned right down. Must have been around 5C in there if not below.

Since swapping the mini frame pump for CO2 cannisters in the summer, I'd had no flats until a day or so before NYE, then tonight - bosh, another. Anti-rant as the first one the other week happened as I rolled up our drive after a blast with a tailwind all the way home, and tonight's was within 100 yards of me leaving the office so a quick turnaround and use the spare tube + pump that I keep there leaves the gas untouched and no fumblings in dark lanes with froz fingers.

    PF 0 CiB 2.
