Forgot to mention a dumb thing from this morning:

Genitally challenged GIRAFFE in a Porsche 4x4 thing tried to overtake me in my village on the way in today. Right on a blind bend, and just as he tried, oncoming traffic forced him to slam his anchors on and wait.

I did the disappointed headshake thing - you know that one your Mother always gave you? The one that was accompanied with "I'm not angry... I'm just... disappointed" and. You. Felt. Terrible.

Well, he went mental as he passed me, he looks right across - completely ignoring the road, gesticulating and shouting... I couldn't help it. I burst out laughing and this fat little twerp went incandescent! I swear he was going to burst a blood vessel - clearly his Mother had cause to tell him off a lot as a child
Just looked that up on urban dictionary - not sure which meaning you were referring to, but none of them complimentary.

It's what we called our IT Director when I worked at British Midland. He could never work out why we had posters of Giraffes around the office. I think he thought we had some weird African Wildlife thing going on

KB: I had a similar thing when I was driving. Bloke in a car next to me at a red light was on his phone. I looked over at him he looked back so I made the "phone" sign with my hand and made a 'putting it down' gesture.

He absolutely lost it. Threw his phone against the passenger window, started frothing at me from behind the glass, looking like an animal that was trapped in the car and couldn't work out how to escape. He was still shouting and gesticulating when I gave him a thumbs up and a smile, had a laugh to myself and pulled away from the now green light.

He must have had a rage induced stroke by now!

Don't use that information. Store It. Store it untill you one day find yourself in the pub and you can cause the guy the largest amount of embarassement possible- in front of friends family spouses etc who will forever consider his future cycling staments of prowess to be overblown and of dubious truth.

Littl'uns allowed me to get a full night's sleep - well 5 1/2 hrs but it was uninterrupted - and then had an extended commute up to Muswell Hill, then after the meeting, a nice roll back down the hill into town. The view from Archway was stunning - The Shard really is much taller than anything else on the skyline.

Looking from Parliament Hill - so the Shard is lined up behind St Paul's Cathedral - the new kid on the block completely dwarfs (dwarves?) Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece.

It'll be the tallest building in Europe when it's complete.

What I love about this forum is that it makes me want to ride no matter what the weather or regardless of how crap my day is. I doff my cap to you all.

However, it also makes me want to spend tonnes of cash that I don't currently have as a result of n+1 and general bike envy. Not good for marital bliss...

For lent my 13 year old son has decided to eat his main meal of the day with chopsticks. He usually devours his food far too quickly and we are constantly having to tell him to slow down when he is eating. Last night was the first time in years he wasn't first to finish. I found it very entertaining, we might have soup tomorrow.

    Two-fold benefits for your lad.

    1. He'll enjoy his food more, if he slows down. :)
    2. He won't have to suffer the embarrassment of asking for a fork in Asian restaurants. Because he'll be an expert with the sticks in 40 days!

This is the important bit as far as I'm concerned. He tends to eat so fast it doesn't touch the sides and it can make him feel ill. We are forever telling him to slow down, which is why I encouraged him to do this when he suggested it. The Mrs was concerned, but I pointed out the benfits and she's all for it now.

Just been to the cafe for a fry up, it's glorious out there. 16'C and bright sunshine. Plus a 4 day weekend booked. I'm a very happy boy.
  • Fifteen degrees and little wind, what's not to like? Out for a spin to try out the new saddle, the minor roads are mucky at this time of year but 28mm tyres and a chromoloy frame supply a forgiving ride amid the mud and potholes :)

When I ordered the new chainset on friday I didn't read the specs before clicking 'buy'. Reading them over the weekend I found out I need a longer BB so dug out a couple of freewheel spacers in the hope that would work. No need now as I've dug an old 107mm UN51 out of the back of the cupboard.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I just have to anti-rant to give a shout out to the ebay buyer who despite it taking almost 3 weeks for the monitor he purchased from me to arrive (mainly due to me not sending him the tracking link so him never being aware it was on route) still gave me positive feedback.

    Thank you for your patience.

Sat in traffic last night Here when i hear "Oi" so i carry on looking straight on...."Oi"...."Oi on the bike" so i look around an there is a black cab with the driver hanging out the window "oh here goes" im thinking to my self

    "your rear lights" - cabby

    "yeah" - me

"quite effective them, you can see them for miles away" - cabby

    "ah cheers" - me

"yeah very good, take it easy" - cabby

    with that he drives away

so thanks mr taxi man, i was expecting abuse for some reason so i was a bit taken back when he said my lights were good :)

    At last.

    Overshoes: Off.

    Leggings: Off

    Baselayer: Off

Big Gloves: Off, replaced by mitts.

Feeling of cycling through custard: Gone.

Slightly extended commute just for the hell of it: Back on.

Winter isn't switched off one day in March, but it's getting out of the atmosphere.

All I need now is to dump the array of lights & reflectives and get back into a loosely zipped up short-sleeved top.

LBS having a 20% off day for one day only. The CFO has signed off a new MTB (Giant XTC 1) if I sell the much loved but rarely used Roadrat, which would probably cover nearly half the 800 quid outlay....

It's a bit of a dilemma....and I need to decide in the next hour. :?

    29" or 26" wheels? I'd love to get a 29er.
  • SWMBO has agreed to me making use of the cycle to work scheme but I need to sign-up in the next 10 days

My current hybrid makes chosing the n+1 an issue. Have decided on an MTB now and live with the current hybrid for commutes and longer rides.

Cycle scheme 2015 will be a road bike!!
