On average how long do you ride for on your weekly long ride?
For example my long ride is on a Sunday and I average 3 or 4hrs.....
How about you?

5-7 hrs on a Saturday, no cafes.
4-5 if it's really really hard and the fast guys are out.0 -

Say my long ride is four hours, which box do I fill in?0

3-4 hours, saturday and sunday. Usually."A cyclist has nothing to lose but his chain"

3-4 hours is a great distance imho.
Most can do 4 hours without a cafe stop, and you get some miles in. Also if you start at 9 you're back by 1 and can actually do something productive with the rest of the day!!!"I hold it true, what'er befall;

Than never to have loved at all."

At the moment I'm doing about 4 hours so ~100km. I'll up that to 6-8 hours as the weather improves.More problems but still living....0

3-4 hours is my average and with 2 kids under 4, anything longer is a bit of a micky take and nearly all my rides are hilly. I'll up it nearer Sportive time though.
Did a hilly 55 yesterday which included some hill repeats on some short 10 and 12% climbs and got round in 3 hours.0 -
50 miles circa 2 hours 40 is the most I do, feel like a bit of a wimp after reading what some of the up to 7 hrs on the saddle members here are claiming :oops:0

Normally between 4 and 6 hours, depends what my coach has planned for me.0
-
4-5 hours, some are around 9-10 hours though.0

longest ride is 2 hours.
I have only trained for TTs in the past.
If I only do tts and road races less than 2 hours is there any point to training beyond 2 hours???0 -

Yeh, for fun.0 -
due to family/work getting in the way of cycling, I am only getting a couple of hours in. This isn't good enough as I have got a multi day 450 mile ride in a month!
Thankfully I am getting some turbo & running in and managing circa 10 hrs a week.0 -

Some of the most successful sports people trained for beyond their required margins. Think it was rocky marciano the boxer who trained for double amount of rounds, either way it cant do you no harm!0 -
4-5 hours at this time of year. 6-7 hours in Summer.0
-
3-4 hours. I rarely train for much longer than that. Quality, not quantity. It never stopped me standing on the podium.0

I think it can do lots of harm actually. Lots of great sports people do huge quantities because they can rather than need to, I mean they've nothing esle to do have they? Maybe they'd be better still if they backed off?
Do loads of hours if you want to and enjoy it, but don't feel you need to.0 -
3 hrs max on sunday, leave at 7am back for 10am. Leaves the day for family stuff. Nowt on bike on saturday.
I think that is plenty for racing if you are making it hard enough, but if you enjoy longer rides go for it.0 -
3 hrs at the moment. Too early in the season to go much longer.Jeff Jones

with the mixture of bad weather and illness I've had a month off, went out on Sunday for 3hrs and felt great, really fresh, just goes to show some time off can do. Although I can feel the pressure of the Fred W coming.0

What intensity are you guys going at during your longer rides?0

I don't see why people have a problem with Will saying he does 9-10 hour rides. For your regular bearded audaxer 9-10 rides are bread and butter stuff.
I don't think I'll be doing much over 8 hours this summer, but last spring/summer as I prepared for a 4 and 1/2 day LEJOG my regular weekend rides were anything from 8 - 14 hours.
Riding a 300km at a comfortable pace is much easier than riding 150km balls-out anyway....More problems but still living....0 -

WTF would you hope to achive by doing 10 hour rides?
if you suggested 9-10 hr rides to a coach would he not hit you a smack on the back of the head and tell you to wise up ? surely that amount of saddle time in one go is overkill that is gonna catch up the rider at some point.[/img]0 -
What would I hope to achieve doing 10 hour rides? Well it improves my endurance and also it's fun.
Do some people on here have closed minds or something? If you think it's "silly" to do rides over 5 hours then it's either because of the fact you're unable to do them or as I said, have a closed mind.
I know long rides like that have helped me, and after them I'm certainly not so tired that I can't get up, infact the last 9 hour ride I did was around 175 miles from Selby up to Tan Hill in the Yorkshire Dales where we did some of the big climbs like buttertubs, I find them very fun, I can't wait for this summer when I hope to break 200miles, in the summer the majority of my club runs are rarely under 100 miles, can't really go far under 100 miles, on Saturday I'm riding to brid from York, that should be around 130 miles for me hopefully and I really cannot wait for my first 100+ miler ride in Yorkshire and in 2010.
Honestly, if you look at my twitter, you'll see that the statement can be true for BikeRadar. I state some of my stats and instantly people go WTF and try to say I'm only trying to impress people. I'm not going to lie or stop posting stats because of silly people like that.
I love doing long rides and constantly seek out long and hillier rides, it's what I like.
Some Audaxes if you look can be well over 175 miles... Some can be 5 times as long....
And I've not had any problems with over training doing those large distances, it does not have any more or less effect as if I did a 60ish mile ride on the Saturday as long as enough recovery time is taken.0 -

You obviously don't know Will. Will deals in pure facts and stats, he does exactly what he says. Bhima deals in fantasy and over exaggeration. Will actually tends to under exaggerate his abilities.0
