You say that as though that was some sort of reason...?The only exceptions are replica World Champs and Tour leaders jerseys. The reason is because i say so.
Getting all uptight about this is BS really.

make sure the barrel is correctly angled under the chin.... actually you would have been ok if it wasn't for the mismatch
plus its a trek...

John.T wrote:This is all getting a bit silly. Of course you can wear anything you like. If you wear replica kit you may get some stick from folk who support other teams. Who would walk round Manchester in a Liverpool shirt and not expect some ribbing (at least).
The only exceptions are replica World Champs and Tour leaders jerseys. The reason is that they have to be earned which you have not done. You may get away with a Jersey with the winners name on it as this shows support for that rider.

What about national champs jerseys or do they just give them out to anyone these days?0 -
I was in Oz the other month. I was on a nice ride when I came upon a little guy who had the cheek to be wearing a World Champs jersey and riding a fully rigged BMC bike. I called him "a little shitty Aussie poseur". He started crying.

redddraggon wrote:Re: Team GB kit, it's more like club kit than anything else.
Would you go out and buy another clubs kit and wear it? Wouldn't you feel a little silly?
Wearing GB kit is legal, so is wearing other clubs kit you are not a member. But it's just not right. You should really be part of the club.
First two jerseys I saw today were Team GB, and they were part of the "Club". I'm in my own club and can wear that jersey if I wanted to wear a club jersey.
But lots of us are members of British Cycling and it costs more to join than my cycling club so why can't we wear the kit ? And I know they gave out a load of their kit for the office staff at Manchester to commute in so British Cycling themselves obviously don't have a hangup about people who aren't on the squad wearing the kit.
I just think wear what you want it's not as if you are trying to pass yourself off as a member of the GB squad or a world champ. Wearing an actual club kit does make it look like you are part of that club so it's a little bit different - even then I don't think people expect former club members to burn their kit when they leave the club. I know loads of riders who still wear kit from former clubs or sponsored teams they used to ride for - nobody is bothered.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -

Ok...sorted. I've just bought Trek.
Now all I have to do is nip down to the factory and pick myself a Madone. Then it will match my jersey.

what a load of shite!. I have been cycling on and off for 40 years and have never heard of any so called unwritten rules. The only rules I know are the ones in the race handbook about wearing registered club colours when racing for your club. (don't ask me which rule but I think there is one.)
This is the same snobbish attitude you get from some dickheads that scoff at a no hoper that turns up on a £3K carbon bike. May be there is an unwritten rule regarding the relationship between your 10 mile TT time and the value of your bike.
A couple of years ago I towed a female up the Kirkstone pass in the Fred Whitton. She very politly thanked me for the tow and then proceeded to scoff at the fact that I was wearing MTB shoes and SPD pedals instead of race shoes and pedals. Bitch!
Sorry but I am in that sort of mood at the mo :evil:I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks0 -

I didn't know about life's unwritten rules untill my daughter became a teenager. We then had a new saying in the house:
Dad ! No ! You're not wearing that . I thought trousers were meant to come up to your armpits.0 -
I had no idea about the 'rules' of cycling. I'm not sure they exist in MTB.
However, I always buy kit as either something I like the look of or something I aspire too (or it's a deal I can't refuse!). I have aspired to be a great sportsman, football player, cyclist etc since I was the age of 5, unfortunately I don't earn millions of pounds doing any sport so the aspiration aspect is still there! Hey I will never earn millions as a sportsman! As a football player I wear the kit of the team I love.
Someone on the thread said you should earn what you wear. I bought a TDF Yellow jersey at the end of last summer, I have always wanted one as I respect (most) of the people who get to wear them. At that time it was very tight fitting, but having spent the winter getting fit and loosing weight (nearly 3 stone), it is now baggy and I will wear it with pride, because in my world I know I have earn't the ability of wearing it, because I know every pedal stroke that I have made over the winter, all the pain and cold I have been through to fit into it means a lot to me. I don't care what people think. I will happily take the ribbing as many people pass me on hills or on the flat! Hey my bike has yellow hoods on it, it was designed that way, but does that also makes a statement?
I know that in life there are people a lot better than me in all that I do, and those who I might well be better than, if those who are better than me are open to giving me advice and I am open to giving those advice, then that's all that matters. If you want to be pompous about it, then I will give you the time of day but won't agree with you.
And the replica shorts to go with the Yeloow jersey, well they were half price!

Sadly there are a lot of c0cks in road biking that don't like people wearing TDF kit, Bianchi's with Shimano, MTB shoes etc, etc.
Sadly these are the same mofo's that would be riding on £100 Tesco bikes if they had to earn what they rode
At the end of the day ride/wear what you like as life's too short to be worrying if you're the king of the mountains or whatever. Very few of us are actually truly decent cyclists anyway (it's all relative) and I wear a polka dot jersey for the irony as my area is flat as a pancake. But it goes with the bike so what the heck. I like it.0 -

I have a Peugeot team jersey with rainbow collar and cuffs. I have been confused with Tom Simpson's ghost.
And yes, I have a full 531 Peugeot PX10LE with half chrome forks and stays, Simplex, Stronglight, Mafac, Mavic MA on Normandy wide flange hubs and a Brooks cutoff Pro.
22 lb from 1974.
I was bought a TdeF 'Combination' jersey in 1988 with La Vie Claire - Wonder - Radar ( Greg's 'Jack of all trades' jersey ). I don't own a Look so I've never worn the jersey.0 -
This thread embodies EVERYTHING that I hate about "cyclists" or that element of cycling that worries about shirts and all of that crap.
Surely the ONLY things that matter are being friendly, safe and fast?
A friend wears the polkadot shirt because he likes it (it's also highly visible). He get loads of sneery comments. As it happens, he climbs hills like a greased weasel. He was telling me of his experience at the local cycling club. No-one introduced themselves or even spoke to him. We concluded that this was exactly what we expected of the "road cycling fraternity" (no offence meant to those that don't fit this stereotype...). This shirt thing and unwritten rule malarky is exactly the same.
