When I get the matching shorts, then maybe I'll put one up
Much respect if you put it in the 'Girls in lycra shorts' thread. But, I don't think you'd hear the end of it....
Everyone would love you though. :roll:0 -
There is a chap down our way who rides in the full Discovery kit, shoes, socks, bike, the lot. No-one is going to mistake him for a member of a (defunct) team  Mind you, he is d*mn fast!
I am saving up for couple of replica shirts from Prendas but nobody will mistake me for Robert Millar, Eddy merckx, et al. The shirts allow me to acknowledge the pleasure/inspiration those teams give me. As has been said, what I choose to wear is my business and I will deal with the consequences. The older I get the faster I was0 -

Apparantly they put up a bit of a fight when he passed them, but not for long.
Now that is cool!0 -
Re: Team GB kit, it's more like club kit than anything else.
Would you go out and buy another clubs kit and wear it? Wouldn't you feel a little silly?
Wearing GB kit is legal, so is wearing other clubs kit you are not a member. But it's just not right. You should really be part of the club.
First two jerseys I saw today were Team GB, and they were part of the "Club". I'm in my own club and can wear that jersey if I wanted to wear a club jersey.0 -
That's not the same thing at all.0

Good point. A few GB squad riders have turned up in the Saturday club chaingang. I think I would have felt a right d1ck if I'd been wearing a Team GB strip. Little chance that Bernard or Greg will turn up when I'm in a La Vie Claire top though!!0 -
Don't ask me about clothing, I wear yellow in winter to be seen, this black strip thing is just bloody stupid. I also think ladiies kit is better than mens, who wants to be a bill board ? Guess thats why I wear what I do (see profile pic). Fashion never was my strong point.0

Good god, Started reading with interest and lost the will to live after page two
I really cannot see what the fuss is about , Yes KOTM or Yellow I can see but dont see the issue with replica team wear :?0 -
cannot believe how small minded some people get about wearing team or tour shirts , was out on sunday near dunsfold wearing a long sleeved giro shirt , pink type and a passing trek rider had a right frothy , what was his problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you want to wear a team issue shirt wear one , last year in italy was wearing a mercatone shirt pantanti style and it never failed to get a wave or nod . some people over here want to get a life !0

If you want to look good, just wear RAPHA!0

Cervelo T.T. head to toe.
F**k the consequences0 -
I still cannot get my head round it , I have just arrived from the MTB side too . Being into the older mtb`s at events we wear the old shirts/shorts and get loved for it 8)
Quite shocked to think without knowing that if I picked up an old USPS shirt off the bay because it fits and was cheap and I wanted it if I turned up at a new club for a ride I would by the sounds of it be shunned and outcasted ?? :twisted:0 -
Can't believe the amount of people on here who are getting worked up when people talk of "rules" on what you can wear. It is just part of cycling banter. People may give you a gentle ribbing on a club run but it's just a bit of fun and no-one is really getting outraged.
I committed a heinous crime (on so many levels) when I started - I wore a long sleeved Campag top with Shimano tights  No-one gave me stick and it took me months to work out the error of my ways. As well as my crimes against cycling it was also a genuine fashion faux pas as a blue and white top doesn't go with green and white diagonal stripes on black  I also had full Carerra kit (fortunately before they did the denim effect shorts!) and a (genuine) GB top which was the most comfortable piece of kit I've ever owned and got worn until it fell apart. I normally wear club kit on club runs though and the other stuff out on my own. I wear plain kit these days as I don't want to draw attention to the fat lump barely making it up the smallest of hills0 -
I never wear any trade team kit, but when I started ridng seriously as a young lad I had a red top that a big Alfa Romeo badge on the front and back, looked fantastic, occasionally got a friendly hoot from Alfa drivers.
Never ever trade team shorts tho.0 -

If you wore inappropriate kit (MTB kit for example) then there may be p1ss taking, but you won't be turned away.0 -
Like to say the club kits were I am are truly awful and really put me off riding with them. Colour schemes are awful and would hideously clash with my bike.
I'd love to join and do Sunday club runs but seeing them in their club kit like a regimental uniform isn't half off putting. Probably a decent bunch a fellas though.0 -
My club has just changed their kit because no one wore it - it looked crap and wasnt great quality. Since it has been changed, a lot more people have worn the kit, but then on the sunday rides people still wear Assos, Endura, Altura and so forth. Nobody commetns on it, unless someone trashes their Assos jacket, then there's some ribbing The club president wears replica racing kit on the monthly rides, so i dont reckon that replica team stuff is a huge problem. I've never seen anyone with a Tour leader or KOM jersey though.Go for the break

Make sure you don't break your chain0 -
I rather like the kit of one of my local clubs (Lune RCC). I'm not a member though, so I don't wear it. I do wear an old Lotto Super-Club team replica jersey though (yellow, not pink version), or a Northwave skeleton top.
Generally, I feel one should only wear local club kit if you're in the club, but anything else goes, including team replicas.0 -
Being a newbie road cyclist this threads a bit of an eye opener  Is it ok to wear all black,i'll probably get mowed down by a boy racer, but a least i won't offend anyone!
I've just bought a USPS coloured helmet aswell, will i be shunned
Happy cycling,Gary0 -

Bang on, in the same way missing an open goal in a Shearer shirt would (rightly) get you plenty of friendly abuse at a park football game.
Only 2 tops I'd have issues with people wearing are the current National Champ jersey and World Champ jersey. Other than that just get on with it, but if you can't take the banter or don't want to look like a billboard get plain kit as you can't go wrong with that stuff.0 -

this........
the thing that strikes me most about this thread is the righteous indignation of the majority posting about how they feel pressurized into following the "rules" despite many of them not even knowing what "they" are.
on top of that the number of posters who say wear what you like the snobs are uptight losers etc etc etc then post a caveat along the lines of
"except world championship jerseys..i draw the line at that"
"except mountain bike gear"
"except KOM jerseys"
"except"
"except""If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

This is all getting a bit silly. Of course you can wear anything you like. If you wear replica kit you may get some stick from folk who support other teams. Who would walk round Manchester in a Liverpool shirt and not expect some ribbing (at least).
The only exceptions are replica World Champs and Tour leaders jerseys. The reason is that they have to be earned which you have not done. You may get away with a Jersey with the winners name on it as this shows support for that rider.
Getting all uptight about this is BS really.0 -
I'm thinking of joining team Marmite...do wander if I'll look daft though?
Either love it or hate it I guess
