'Rules' on Cycling Clothing...?

I'm sure most clubs (worth their salt) would just be happy to have new people riding and couldn't give a toss what people wear.
Some people will have club kit, but will ride for the club so often that they can't wear the club kit on all club runs - they'd stink otherwise! When it comes to summer, with evening league TTs, interclub TTs, road races etc.... people can't be expected to wear club kit on every ride.
I did get some stick for not wearing club kit on a ride during a weekend away, but that's only because I have it, was being a tart, had took two sets of kit with me (one club one non), so on one of the days wore club kit. Just so happens that a load of photos were taken on the day I wasn't wearing kit, and everyone else was0 -

Very strange that these 'rules' apply to (for example) a £60 jersey and some people get so angry when someone dare wear such a jersey but ride a £5000.00 beauty in Pro Team colours and not a bad word is said
well your off the mark there as well.. your just making it worse for yourself
I suppose you will telling tell us all it's ok for blokes to wear non-bib shorts next..."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. I'm a PROPER cyclist and I give a toss. In fact I would go as far to say that if you are a PROPER cyclist then you would give a toss.

What about cyclists who dont give a sh!t about TDF etc,etc its a big world out there and id regard a true cyclist so someone who loves cycling, no absolute requirement to be into TDF as far as im concerned.
Lets just hope that other races dont start up and select other colours or were all going in the scud !!!
Come to think of it a few naked brittish cyclists in the scud would prob look very similar to the KOM jersey with our pale white skin with red blotches, i think we would be beggin for the yellow jerseys to hit the shelves again.....0 -

No idea why he would wear it if he was going as slow as he was. But i've got nothing against it, nonetheless.
He was probably laughing because he thought 'there's one of those nobs who take cycling far to seriously'.
I do believe that some people do cycling for fun and i reckon it's a good laugh to have some super slow bugger last up a hill in the polka dot Shows he has character 8) (i wouldn't have the guts though as i'm all to aware of the snobbery and it would make me self concious, kinda wish i never found this site )winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

I got myself a new jersey today and it is primarily yellow. Couldn't care less what other people think. I'm not trying to pretend I'm a Tour leader or anything. I mean really, far more important things in life to worry about0

there are jerseys and tops that are yellow... and there is the yellow jersey

this sort of post just highlights the range of ignorance prevalent in this thread..."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. If cycling clubs are so bothered about these appalling breaches of unspoken unwritten unpublished rules on what cyclists can or cannot wear, why don't their committees get together and devise representations of the strongest kind to the organisers of the grand Tours.

I think it was a lighthearted comment on the idea that it doesn't matter what you wear, it's how you ride!!Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -

and its not about being a club or not...for instance you don't get a free pass to dress up like valverde because one is not affiliated to a club...

This is losing its focus now....
anymore of it and I will drag out my KoM jersey from bottom of wardrobe and wear it tomorrow on our CC reliability run and sod the consequences... i.e.finish knackered up Mow Cop and last, get the gearing all wrong up Blackie and die going past Wincle.0 -
I have had a re-think about the "wear it dont, wear it", actually, I don't care what anyone else wears, I really care about what I wear. My personal ideas about leaders jerseys, stripes and the like apply to me not anyone else.
So, wear what pleases you, ride and enjoy. Mutual respect and cycling karma to you all.0 -

I bet you still like trying to catch, pass, and drop people with yellow and polka dot jersey's on, don't deny it! :PNote: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -
All I know is, a guy i cycled in the Pyrenees with, wears a fleece and bolton wanderes away strip football shorts over his cycling shorts, and once proceeded to tow the entire group of guys he was cycling with, totally destroying a pristinely turned out bunch of super matching French cyclists. Apparantly they put up a bit of a fight when he passed them, but not for long.
Now that is cool!Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -

Quite. I once burried myself on a climb in the peaks to get to a guy in the green Giro climbers jersey, only to see it was an old TdF green jersey. Not so much kudos points for passing a sprinters' jersey on a climb.Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.0 -

Wear what you like, so long as you're up for living with what comes along with it.
I confess I love my 'Baked Beans' cycling shirt, but I also love the vintage cycle ad shirt I was given as a present. I've never really wanted a 'team' kit and there's no real expectation from clubs that you 'have' to wear their kit, from my experience.0
