    Ruth -

I have a feeling you won't have gotten my entry, I think the envelope used may have been classed as Large Letter and I only used one first class stamp. I had letter returned recently for this reason (underpayment by 6p...)

It's the first time I've posted anything since the rules changed.

I'll do my entry tomorrow. PROMISE.

I have got it, NapD, by going to the sorting office and paying £1.08 for the privilege of receiving your entry! You owe me a piece of cake at the HQ!

Sheptastic - I'll look out for your entry.

Rode the course today, and what a cracking course.

First 18 miles is a lovely rolling course, which you can get up some good speed and maintain it quite easily, the start up the hill is a bit decieving though, as one you crest this is is just rolling.

The next 20 odd miles is a bit more lumpy  , with 3 major hills. The first to Stanford Bridge, isn't too bad, and the descent into Stanford Bridge is fantastic, technical and fast, just about doable on the tri bar extensions. There are a few pot holes on the descent before the bridge, but they are all into the left of the lane. Follows is the first timed climb, and the first part seemed OK, with a bit of a false flat followed by the meat of climb in front of you. At the top of the steepest part the climb eases but drags on though.

The next part is lumpy, with some fast sections. One of the best part of the course is the run across Bromyard Down, the views are great, and the road surface is lovely new tarmac. You the drop onto the A44, and a mega fast descent towards Ankerdine Hill, I recon speeds of over 50 here when racing, again the road surface is good. Best part of the course arrives at about 33 miles.

This is the hardest climb of the course, Ankerdine Hill. You know it is going to be steep when the signs say an average of 17%, and there are warning signs for HGV's to use a crawler gear

Obviously a hard climb, not made easier by the fact when you think it might be easing, you see repeater signs, advising HGV's to stay in a crawler gear, I think there is about 5 or 6 of these up the hill. Once the hill has been crested, again it is followed by a lovely descent, again technical and fast, wasn't so brave to do it all on the tri bars, and even had the break for some of the bends, might be braver during the race

The last few miles back to the finish are again rolling, but after nearly 40 miles of hard racing, I recon the legs will be screaming, though the downhill part to the finish, more than makes up for it.

In summary a great course, and I think like Ruth has said great for those thinking about getting into TT's, a hard but very honest course, and a good course for sportive lovers

My Garmin download showing the profile in good detail.

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/29385819

Road conditions are pretty good, a few potholes, some of those have been marked, so hopefully some of them will be repaired by the event, but all are easy to see.

Thanks for that SBezza and well done on Sunday btw. Nice ride!

If you're looking for a forum showdown, you'll have to give me a 7 minute head start on current form, particularly as you've ridden the course and I'm unlikely to have even driven it before the off. Fancy waging a slice of cake at HQ on this?

Bex your ride on Sunday was very good, just over the hour on a very windy day was a very good time indeed.

7 mins might be a little too much  , but hell I can go with that  . Don't know if riding the course is such a good idea, I know what is coming up.

Of course 7 minutes is "a little too much"..... that's why I suggested it!

    Ruth... get baking!
  • what is it about 39 miles and 17% for a long way that is so tempting. Any spaces left? I'm only half serious as domestic situation dictates i probbaly cant ride, but you never know....

The latest list of entries can be found here: http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/open_races/ ... tries.html

I don't seem to have had the promised entry from Sheptastic. :(

The closing date is today but I'll still accept entries I receive tomorrow as it's looking like falling a bit short of being a full field. So get your entry in the post first class NOW if you still haven't entered!

Guess you need the racing licence to enter?

The 10mile TT looks good too- I guess that is fairly flat?(and open to beginers?)

No license needed for a TT, though you will need to be in a club affiliated to the CTT. I think you might be able to enter under the CTT Headquarters club, though Ruth may have a better idea on this.

You're too late for the Little Mountain TT but there's still plenty of time to enter the Beacon Open 10. As Steve said, you do have to be in a club affiliated to the CTT but other than that anyone can enter. The course for the 10 is pretty flat and it would be a good event to do as a beginner - you'll be very welcome. Go on - you know you want to!

It sounds as though you could do with looking at the CTT Midland District website here: http://www.midlanddc.org.uk/ It includes a description of every course in the Midlands and all events, both club events (ones you can just turn up and ride) and open events (ones you have to pre-enter). Any other questions, just ask.

    See you all soon folks!

  • I was looking to see how many women have entered (about 11) and noticed that most of them are also on the start sheet for the Diana Cooke Memorial 10 the day before.

    What a dauntless crew!

Great thanks for that. I am thinking of joining Banbury star cycle club so that should allow me to start most TT's I hope.

    Wow!
    What a fantastic event!
Friendly atmosphere, extremely well organised and marshalled, big field, good facilities, freebies but the star was the route!

Very enjoyable, loved the hard climbs and the descents were tremendous!
Weather stayed dry too which was a bonus.

Beacon cc have pulled a blinder!

Next year I am going to go for the 'most improved rider' prize...

So what time are you now starting from?

2-32-03 for me which I'm very happy with. I'm in little doubt I'll go back next year to try & improve on that.

Well done NapoleanD and RichK.. and as for SBezza... you were brilliant! Amazing stuff!

Big thanks to Ruth and her army of helpers for a great event. I really enjoyed the uphill bits, the flat bits and the HQ bits but was scared senseless on the descents!
