Cheshley,,,,,, do you have to confirm which route you wish to ride beforehand or can you opt for any one of the four routes on the day ??

    Dunno mate, I'll check.

I rarely go anywhere that I don't know where I am. I have Viewranger detailed maps of the National Parks in my phone but if I was somewhere that wasn't covered I'd get an OS map of the area or try to arrange to go with someone ho knows the area.

If you do go ahead and get one make sure you get a 'bundle' package with GB Topographic map included, it will of course have it's own 'basemap' installed but isn't very detailed.
The GB Topographic mapping on it's own is £100+.

Also make sure that the GB Topographic you get comes on a dvd otherwise it will be on a microsd card which will leave you very little room to store/upload any routes on, plus with the dvd you should get additional third party software to plan routes. Having said that i am now using bikeroute toaster to plan routes as it gives you a cycle routes view just like google gives you map/terrain/sattelite views.

If the legend uses TCX andGPX files you can upload routes from other people ussually shared on a website of which there are a few.
    Hope this helps you Maloo.

If you look around you should be able to pick one up with the topo mapping included, that's what i did and the mapping only cost me about half price.

You can still get free Tracklogs or bikeroute toaster mapping software on your pc and buy the 'tiles' of the area you want, make your route up using the software and upload the route to the legend with the basemap installed and follow your route or track where you go, the legend will of course give you the os co-ordinates of your location and you can look this up on a paper os map for reference. (which i would always have with me for reference anyway)

The basemap isn't very detailed i'm afraid so it doesn't show any paths etc; but like i say you can still follow any routes you upload to the unit after you've made them up using tracklogs, bikeroutetoaster or even memorymap software.

My xt rapid rise rear mech arrived, fitted it, tried it and couldn't stop changing gears !!!!!!!

It's fickin marvellous, i like it much better than the normal mechs, 'cos when going uphill it's so much easier changing to a lower gear with the spring pulling the mech for you. Am converted truly i am........':D'':D'':D'
