I paid £80 for my racing 7s from Ribble in a Jan sale why are they so expensive now?

There's been inflation since the 1940s

Surely it's only tyres that suffer from inflation?

    I'll get my coat.....

In my defence I've been looking at wheels for a couple of years. Immediately that spreads the cost into a £310 a year investment. Taking into account the fact that I haven't used them in those two years, means I earn a positive depreciation benefit of, let's say, £100. The fact that I might only use them for half this season takes away another 50% of the cost.

Meaning... the wheels are approximately cost neutral. Bang. :)

  • Hmmm, Planet X seem to have Deda Newton anatomical bars and Deda Zero 100 stems at £19.99 each at the moment, down from £75.99 and £58.99 respectively. And they have the sizes I like, and in a colour that would nicely match the Equilibrium. What with needing to change the bar tape and everything...

Hmmmmm - what woudl the dark metal option look like on a classic Colango C40?
I have been thinking about the shiny bits on that bike for a long time...

I would imagine it would look good, I think classic-style bikes look better with shinier stems and bars. I still think that actual silver would look best, but the dark metal looks a hell of a lot better than black to me. I have the Newton bars on the BeOne, and I really love them - very light, very stiff and very comfortable.

Need some pedals for my new Canyon.

Is £30 for brand new Shimano 105 pedals good value?

Sounds good to me... I bought Ultegra pedals back in 07/08 for about £40-50 but prices have generally shot up since then...

Yeah. Ideally I'd like ultegra to match the rest of the bike, but I've read they're pretty expensive for what they are - lowest I've seen for Ultegra is £60.

I bought some recently and cheapest I could find was £33 at Ribble so £30 is very good.

Pretty sure Canyon were doing free pedals on some models, might be worth checking out their site? Canyon are pretty cheap for pedals anyway, can't find Dura Ace SPD-SL anywhere near as cheap as Canyon (though I know you're not looking to spend that much).

Check that they come with cleats (unless you alredy use SL's in which case, ignore this post)

Would I see any improvement over my current commuting steed : Trek 2nd District I run in SS mode ?
I could have the Pomp setup as fixed and switch between them as I feel like it ? I've a hilly 35 mile round trip for my commute and always chickened out of adding a fixed rear cog to it.

    Edit to add :
I suppose another benefit woudl be the ability to run fatter tyres - my Trek takes 25mms - not sure if it would take much bigger, the Pomp takes 32/35mms

Sans cleats. Bought them, since I already ride SL's and have a spare set of cleats:

Sounds like a bargain until you read the "RyanAir style". I assume that means it tells you your pannier is too big to be loaded and you have to pay a supplement if you actually want to sit down on it.
SRAM RED Pro Carbon no frills, "RyanAir" style £999.99 bike - it's back

I think you need to read the paragraph beginning with 'It's a no frills Michael O Leary inspired offer' to appreciate that this deal isn't quite as attractive as it initially appears.

But they're not dressing it up as anything else are they? They are offering an aluminium bike with cheap wheels (but perfectly decent Shimano 501s), homebrand brakes, a force front mech (that people used in preference to red), an apex crank, cassette and chain, but with Red Shifters and rear mech. The main catch is that you've got to build it yourself.
