Castelli Meccanico jacket is £99.95 at Merlin, and it's a lovely item for casual wear.

What's the fit like on these? I'm always a medium in Castelli but wondering if these are not as Italian sized as their normal kit

i've got this reversible rain jacket from their "casual range" and it's not the snug fit of their road kit..far more high st and though it looks a bit agricultural along the seams..is quite smart

Ok, this looks like something I "might" be tempted with as an intro into bib tights.

How the hell do you choose your pad?

There is a chart on the Endura site I think, you are looking for one to match your saddle width, so I have an Arione, and that should have fitted with the narrow pad - and indeed it did.

    EDIT: here you go:

Deffo more generous than their normal items - I'm a small in their jerseys, and even they are now too spacious on me, but I went for this in Small, and had ample room to wear a jumper or couple of layers underneath.

    What chest size are you?
Assuming you are looking at it as a piece of casual wear, I would speculate that a medium would likely be your best bet - dependant on how fitted a medium jersey is.
If you are still unsure, and Wiggle have the size and colour you want, they will price match Merlin.

The black and green is not done justice in the pics, it has green lining throughout and in the hood, and also the front zip is green.

Thanks both. Think I'll try a small then. Wiggle don't have that size in stock so will try Merlin.

Ale base layer in Small\X Small back in stock for £13.99 instead of £35.

Every bit as good as the Castelli offerings imho.

54cm Titanium DISC frame down from 3K (!) to £1304:

BC Discount and TCB would knock that down to around £1150ish I expect.

Used my Evans code to get the Alpha ROS Jersey in blue for £100.

I have done likewise - also in blue.

A great sale & discount code combo deal - good spot!
  • I'll take some pics later but the blue is nicer in the flesh.

Merlin are doing Cro-mo Charge Spoons for £17.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Any thoughts on this saddle?

Been thinking of pairing up the saddle on my 2 bikes and seems a good opportunity for £32.

Are they any good? I know saddles are personal preference.
  • Quite tempted by that Merlin Spoon deal, had a comfy tan one from ~2010 until it was nicked, along with the rest of the bike in 2014.

I had a brief affair with a Spoon. It was certainly an improvement on the stock saddle in terms of comfort, but after a while I realised the stitching was causing serious abrasion of my bibshorts, so it now sits unloved on the shelf in the garage. Might end up sticking it on a singlespeed project for my son to commute on.

Any saddle is good if it fits the shape of your body - its very personal so no guarantees ever.

Having said that, the Spoon is well known for fitting more people well than just about any other saddle. I loved mine but by sheer chance found that the stock Boardman hybrid saddle of 4/5 years ago fits me even better, so I bought a bunch of them on ebay for about £5 each. My Spoons are now being used by my son who says they are the best he has ever tried. We have both done century rides on them with no real problems.

I have never seen the issue with the stitching but have seen a few people write about it so it does happen.

It will cost you more but if you love the spoon but dont want the stitching or like the spoon but want something just that little better then look at the Fabric Scoop. Its the same company but a more advanced design and REALLY nice.

At this price, the Spoon is a steal - but it is regularly at this price - I think all the Spoons I ever bought were similarly reduced.

Merlin had some good prices on Merckx frames in the run up to Christmas, still a few decent prices to be had if you're looking for something top end there, at the cheaper end Planet X have just cut a load of frame prices.

Nothing on the CR1 bargain level that I'm aware of though.

Are they actually the same company?

I'm currently trying to decide if I keep a Scoop Race, I accidentally bought the Race instead of the Shallow. They have a 60 day swap period but only one swap allowed.

The Fabric Scoop was originally the charge Scoop as I understand it, before the Fabric brand was launched and the Scoop moved across.

I have no idea why - possibly because they also have charge bikes and other bike manufacturers therefore didnt want to use their saddles and advertise a competitor. I guess it could also help to separate the brands if they wanted to sell of one side of the business or secure outside investment in return for shares in one part of the business but not the other. But then why didnt the Spoon move over too???

That Lynskey frame on CRC should be nice and super strong with 6/4 titanium, if a bit heavy. Downside, i cannot see any disc brake mounts in the pictures.
  • Noticed this afternoon that Strava is offering free users an upgrade to Premium for 89p for the first two months, before reverting to £5.99 a month.

Think the offer ends 14th January.

Had the same Spoon on various bikes since 2011 and it's been a brilliant saddle for my shape and I've got another Spoon on the other bike. No complaints here hence buying another for when the 6 year old saddle finally gives up the ghost, the rear has a small rip in it and the logo is smooth.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I tried a Spoon ages ago, was alright but wasn't massively keen on it, but love my Fabric Scoop Flat saddle. Feels great, despite having no cutout no problems with numbness.
