Got one of the stands, muc off cleaner and a pack of 16oz gas cylinders last night. Didnt see any camera lights. Fully intended getting some of the winter gloves, but some had odd stitching around the fingers meaning they were twisted (poor QC?), also noted they didn't seem to have any antislip material on the inside of the fingers (unlike previous versions which were briliant), so I passed.

I bought a buff and socks and a merino base layer in Aldi yesterday. Tried on the softshell jackets (labelled slim fit) - what a totally weird cut! The XL would have been a snug fit on me (I am normally L in the Aldi stuff), but it was super tight across the shoulders and the arms were so short that they were nowhere near reaching my wrists. It's a shame, because the materials and construction is usually very good for the price...
I tried on the long sleeve winter jersey in a medium (my usual size) and it was perfect apart from the sleeves which seemed to have been cut for a gibbon.

Shame as I'd have bought two otherwise, for the price it seemed pretty decent.

Was impressed with the quality of the softshell, just not the colour - because of that didn't even try it on.

Picked up some lights, gloves, socks as well stocking up for the winter commute.
  • That was for me the biggest disappointment of all the Aldi stuff this year was that it was all seemed to be Black. I am not going to wear black in the winter. I grabbed some gloves (I have last years still but it's handy for when you can only find 1), CO2 and the £15.00 light set for my daughter.

Generally Ditto. I really want stuff with splashes of colour (not just reflectives) to provide contrast. I don't mind wearing "generally" black stuff in winter, but it's gotta have some all round colour splashes on it.

If it loops, isn't that plenty? You really only need the last 30 seconds before you've been hit.

In supplied mode - it records 5 minute blocks to an AVI file of around 7-800Mb each. So that would equate to around an hour of recording. I have no idea if it loops as I've only ridden 1/2hr with it so far.

Light settings - better than I thought initially - having tried it in the dark last night - but still not as good as my Smart R2 with the reflective bits around the LED.
Video - even on my daylight ride home (just after 5pm in the south) - numberplates were a bit hit & miss - forget seeing the driver of cars - reflection of the (overcast) sky was all you can see - fairly predicably. Stability was good though. Interesting seeing the halo effect of the red chase leds as I came into the slightly duller areas - but if your aim is just to record "just in case" then it doesn't matter - you'd not want it for production video...
  • Tried my Aldi rear camera light on the way home. It does loop. The supplied card managed about 55 minutes, so the first 10 mins through town were not stored. Picture quality won't make out car number plates. Another one of those things that will get used for a few weeks and will then sit either in my work drawer or tech drawer at home.

The time stamp is also 7 hours ahead and i can't find the .txt file to change it.
  • Anyone who has bought one of these camera lights...

Any chance of you uploading a clip to Youtube, perhaps making it private but leaving a link in here if you would rather not make it full public, from ideally day and night recordings?

What really concerns me now are some people saying reg plate and driver ID is not guaranteed even even daylight. So on that basis, how is spending £40 per unit going to help us get a prosecution against any dangerous actions done around us?

http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/aldi-r ... 217/page-3 for some clips. Not easy to see reg plates, albeit I'm on a tablet in portrait mode.

Was in ALDI tonight. My stuff is still in the post (coming to the office so should be there on monday).

They had pretty much everything available.

Man, that camera is HUGE. I bought it on a bit of a whim and already thought it might be one of those things that sits in the drawer unused but its even to big to fit in the drawer...! So I think that may go back.

Nearly bought a pair of the winter gloves as they seemed great but I had to keep reminding myself that I have like 6 pairs of winter gloves already.

They had loads of the helmet lights and I think those are great personally. I have two on order and am glad because I think helmet lights really help make you visible in addition to all the other lights on the bike. Higher up seems to get noticed more. And these are more elegant than the two lights I use at the moment.

Ended up leaving with the double cream that I went there for and an inspection light that I didnt but none of the cycling gear as everything I would have bought is already on its way to me.

Connect the camera to the Mac with the lead. It should come up in Finder under "external". The files are in the DCIMA.

Transfer rate is a bit slow so recommend copying the files you want to the desktop first.

PS. It definitely loops, circa 8 mins files.

Just bought a set of these for my 2yo's bike - powered 2 x CR2032 in each light. They're not going to set the world alight with their brightness - however, for a set of see-me lights they seem to be quite good for the money (<£5) and will do nicely for Little Slowbikes accompanied rides.

Almost tempting to get another set for myself - for group rides when you need lights, but not to blind your mates...

Anyone seen any bargains on chainsets? After 172.5, standard bb and (semi-) compact. There are some Red standard doubles going at £150 but after a compact so I can switch out the standard double on the good bike if ever I go to the hills again.

Bit of an OT question but what bike is your 2yr old riding?

My 2.5yr old has mastered his Hotwalk BB and I've tried him on a de-stabilisered cheapy Apollo (£15 second hand just to try) that he can ride but is reluctant due to the weight and geometry of the thing, which is awful.

Options seems to be the Hotrock / Riprock and a few other 12" wheels or wait til he's a bit tailer and go straight for a 14".

    Ah - he's still on a BB - Puky - we're looking at a pedal bike now.
Like you - we have the conundrum of going for the 12" wheels now - or waiting 6 months (at his rate of growth!) and going for 14" wheels ... don't want something that's too big for him or he won't want to ride.
At the moment he loves his Puky BB and whizzes about all over the place. Lights are because we are on the road (albeit a quiet street) and because it makes it fun for him.
