Everyone who's bought one of those sportful jerseys is experiencing what I do no matter what top I buy

Welcome to the world of body / clothing shape mismatch.

Except that the type of mismatch is one that I have never seen before. Most common problems I find are making my belly look bad or shoulders/arms too tight. Generally the Italian styled clothing is designed for cyclists who are expected to have very little upper body mass as pro-cyclists have to be as skinny as possible up top and the only muscles they need are in their legs.

I find plenty of jerseys that fit well from Altura, DHB, Funkier, even Skins compression stuff and ALDI stuff. I tried on and sent back plenty of stuff though, and nothing has ever been shaped like these...

Tried the XL on again at home and I dont think it works - too much material billowing around at the front when bent down in cycling position and shoulders seem to have space for the kind of shoulder pads worn on Dallas/Dynasty in the 80s! Even at this price its a waste as I dont think I would wear it, so probably going back. I will try the Large again tonight as the body fit better I think (although short) but the bands on the hems for the sleeves were very tight (although the sleeve above them was still loose and flappy).

Oh well, its not like I needed another jersey, just I didnt want to pass up a bargain!

Sounds like the Sportful jerseys were cheap for a reason. I doubt many would be keepers if people had paid full price.

Horses for courses, mine is probably my best fitting jersey!

I have fairly broad shoulders but am only 5ft7 - often a top which fits round the shoulders is too long in the body. The Sportful Crank short sleeve I got is perfect as its cut pretty short for the shoulder width - as I said, my large is a similar cut to Gore in medium which fits me best out of other manufacturers. No material flapping round, I am hardly a race snake but am no lard arse (69kg)

    Would buy again.

    You have me wavering now.
I have some Campagnolo Zondas on order from Evans for £255.
These do seem like a stunning deal though.....
How long did they take to arrive, and do they come in a big strong box?
My fear being wheels fetting damaged I guess, and the ease, or not, of returning them.
Looking at the weight on these, I wonder if these are the 2012 model year and not the 2013 ones - anyone know?
Additionally I see you.mentioned them as the S wheels, which I believe come with tubes and tyres, but they are picturing them without and the title does not include the S.

    Thanks Alan,

    just got your PM too!

I think I may well be swaying this way, will have to e-mail them though, as on the Lieferland dropdown, I cannot for the life of me find anything that I believe to be the UK :?
I thought it might be Gro Britannien but a google tells me otherwise.
EDIT - Looks like this might be it after all, but it is telling me delivery costs nothing...?

    Anyone else see it anywhere?

Did you just pay by paypal Alan, and did you struggle to work out what to click and where to enter info etc, or did you just google if you were unsure?
5 days is really good, as is €5.95 delivery.

Dam it! Just bought at £21, still might get another at £19 though cheers!
  • Daniel,

Yes it is a little dificult to complete the form, had to translate several sections.

I too completed the form without it adding the shipping cost.

They sent me an invoice for 370 euros, i had to email them to have them add the 5.90 postage, which they did.

Then paid using paypal, that was last thursday evening, heard nothing from them.

Today got an email from tnt saying they would be here at 1300, and they were, can't believe it was only 5.90 euros for delivery.

Over the moon with the wheels, they look amazing, building bike over the next few weeks!!

Bear in mind that Mavic support is already meant to be awkward. I have a cracked Shimano brake caliper bought from a German outlet - I have to pay return postage and claim it back of Shimano eventually. Maybe Mavic aren't so crap but any failure will probably need to be sorted in Germany........

  • It's possible, but no reason why Mavic in UK would refuse to deal with their product bought in a different country.

Never had any dealings with them, my previous Mavics only ever had to be re-trued once which my lbs did.

For one thing, you normally make the warranty claim through the shop you bought the product from rather than the manufacturer - and they deal with the company in their own country. You can hardly expect a German company to be keen to liaise with foreign representatives just to make it easier for you.

I'm not sure that's particularly true - warranty claims are as often made directly with the manufacturer as it's normally the manufacturer that warranties the product. Sale of Goods Act is obviously something else entirely and provides you with some protection (your "statutory rights").

These days I'd be perfectly comfortable dealing with an EU supplier. Pay by credit card and you probably have protection through them too.

All things being equal, I wouldn't expect the wheels to be problematic anyway.

  • It also depends on the warranty terms. Some manufacturers will only warranty items in the country that they were bought while others have EU/world warranties.

As said above, warranty is with the manufacturer not the retailer. The Sale of Goods act gives us the extra of declaring that the "contract" is with the retailer and that they are responsible for sorting it out. Doesn't mean you can't go to the manufacturer though.

The warranty will only be 12 months anyway no, and then you are on your own?

I'm very very tempted to order these - coming in a little under £320 according to xe.com

The price of those Mavic's is excellent, and if you intend using them on the hills then you won't be disappointed. I have the 2012 version on my CR1 SL and they're superb.

people should not still be buying the flash or flare. Rubertoe, if its still in the packaging take it back.

get the TraceR instead, its as powerful as the flare but USB rechargeable, has a power button, and basically is the light the flare thinks it is

Thanks for the post - much appreciated - these would be for my CR1 SL as well.......

Anyone think these are clearly a better buy than Zondas for £255?
The Zonda reviews on Wiggle, as an example, are glowing - 4.9 out of 5 IIRC, from 70 odd reviews.

I think I'd plump for this over the Vitus

Same Ultegra groupset but including the brakes (rather than FSA ones), Ritchey finishing kit and better wheels (Elite vs Equipe).
Alu frame, yes, but it gets storming reviews

Or Di2 version, but then you're at £1700

Alternatively ... Mavic are on hand to provide free servicing at lots of sportive events. I had my freehub serviced for free in Annecy this summer. Great price for good wheels.

Oh and I should add, the Yksion Pro tyres that come with them are my number one choice of rubber. When they reached end of life in the summer, I replaced them with GP4000s. It took me about a month before I had to switch back - the Conti's had sapped all my confidence and half my speed. If you prefer Conti's and want to swap, let me know.

    Back on topic ;)

Sportpursuit have a load of autumn cycling stuff on at the moment. I almost bought some Pearl Izumi Elite Barrier tights for £50 but then remembered I've got a couple of pairs of winter tights already. Got the Lobster gloves instead. They've also got Kask helmets, loads of other gloves and some team kit, if that's your thing. Referal link here, or just go to sportpursuit.com

Can't help with the link you mention, but there was a good article in the CTC magazine about dynamo hubs not so long ago, here:
