I try and avoid gels and energy drinks on rides; the sugar just screws me over.
I prefer eating a cliff bar and drinking some nunn or High5 tabs. No idea if it does anything, but it tastes nice and it's easy to carry a little tube of nunn tabs and drop one in your water top-up.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

Just had a browse through the 'Look inside'. Fascinating stuff. Might be tempted to order, although a Kindle version would be nice. Thanks for the recommendation.0 -

I want to give rice cakes a go, possibly something to try at the weekend: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG7bWKK9G7E
They don't keep for long but they freeze well, so I might have a go at making a batch. I just need to decide on which flavour. From past experience with flapjacks, chocolate doesn't work on the bike! I think mixed dried fruits and spice would be good.FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -
The thing is you need to consume at least 60g of carbs every hour at high intensity. When I have been on hard training rides and chaingangs the last thing I want is to be chewing on a cliff bar. I usually eat an energy bar at the beginning of the ride even if I am not feeling hungry and leave the gels when it gets crazy fast. I also sometimes use energy drink with a part of protein for longer rides too. The reason I started doing this was because I started to bonk in longer faster rides.
I only use High5 or Nuun plus banana or energy bar for shorter more leisurely rides.
Then again I don't know of any pro-athlete that drinks nuun or high5 but I might be wrong.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

for the rice, after its cooked, mix into it lemon juice and sugar. Depending on how tart you like it
then a layer of sticky rice, layer of raspberries, layer of mint leaves (chopped), and then a layer of rice.

Random - the 3rd party sellers seem to have stock AND are cheaper anyway - might well order one now.
Unless this is a new edition the are waiting for, in which case perhaps I should wait......but it only came out in May, so seems unlikely eh.
