good to hear you're on the mend. For me, not sure about the bike... a slightly longer frame would be ideal but beyond that I'm just not sure.

Wow, nothing on the last two pages seems to make sense.

I'm going to be stuipidly slow if I get out on Sunday, I've also decided I hate walking, I nearly died on the practice after falling neck high in the only bog around here, then this week I make the cooker burst into flames, someone else filled their bag with lighter fluid, and we technically cheated by buying some bacon rolls.

Good thing for the next one we are cycling it :D

@Supraman - Technically this is the bargain of the year, it's the cheapest full sus in the UK with a Sram XX groupset. Blows all Zesty's out of the water.

@Mr Peri Peri - One of our rides took around 2-3 hours and we covered a total of 8 miles, I had a total of 8 crashes too  It did have plenty of KNARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR though

Hi guys, not had chance to catch up recently due to holidays and other commitments, but hope to get out with you again soon. Won't be this weekend though as I'm doing the London to Brighton offroad in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Again, no Knar, but quite a challenge and a great cause to boot! If anyone can spare a quid or two then you can sponsor me here:

wow that is some bargin... Totaly up my street.

I've found a bargin shock for the enduro. A DTswiss aircan. But there will be something new to come some time soon Lighter than the enduro and bigger than zesty.
My enduro is a heavy cow. In Alps kit 38lbs. Pedal that all day makes lungs and legs and guaranteed weight loss.

another 2 weeks and I m good to ride with the group again.

    Hmmm, Trek Remedy? Genius LT?

How did you manage to get it to 38lbs, mines a max of 31lbs with 4.5lbs of that in the tyres.

Popstar where did you ride in redhill? It's stupidly close to where I love and I didn't know there was much to ride there.

Hey Phil, seems as if you wouldn't struggle at all fitness wise. Think this Sunday some geyzers going to ride Leith-Redlands. Most probably on climbs you would leave some riders in dust, going down however is a different story. 20 miles under 3 hours is impressive. Group rides usually take longer than that, when Cooldad starts talking and giving advice on style, it takes few cups of tea to listen.

Even then, groups these days are quite small **(some riders with broken bones or bikes)** so you would have a very nice -intro- . Suppose if Cooldad-DKenny lead the ride most probably you would end up riding Gentle XC.

**Bungalistic how your healing? Get well soon!
**Buckaroo you ought to recover now.
**Naveed its time to get your rigid and put some heat in your legs!
**Helter didn't pay a visit to a forsaken place, revenge is awaiting.

Somehow Redman and Gregsd, Dubcat, Milfredo Co are missing from group, not talking about improved Plaisir ...

    Hey chaps,

Can't do this weekend as my wrists are still in pain, however I'm 85% sure that by next week I'll have the commuter transformed into my winter mtb and the last pains of my injury shuld be over, gotta be careful and ease my way back 'cos this injury has been really crappy, lost my fitness and have missed the bike so much!

A big bike for a big guy and comes in just under 30lbs. Its got some neat features like an adjustable 130/140mm fork, adjustable remote seatpost, carbon cranks but more importantly it's the xxl size, never really had a bike that could be too big for my 6'6" frame but this bike could well be it, def put a stubby 50mm stem on it. It's not due till Xmas (fingers crossed it comes earlier) but I like the overall package and I've never had a Specialized before either. Alos the 130mm rear travel is a lot for a 29er. Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't come with the new 142x12 rear bolt through which seems to be all the rage. Not a deal breaker though.

it was either this or the Santa Cruz tallboy, which I could afford if I basically live on pot noodles for six months. (Doesn't sound like a bad idea at this moment)

With everything being so big the bolt through thingy sounds like a good idea.

As for pot noodle, I had one on my camp thing, a gave up on it, and even one of the teachers dogs that eats anything left it and wandered off.

The bolt through rear is always open to debate, it depends how stiff the bike and rear swingarm is and to be honest the stiffness benefit is minimal. For instance the new Santa Cruz Nomad comes with a standard 135x12 quick release rear with no bolt through options. They just felt the bike didn't need it despite the bike being made to shred gnar big time. Saying that I would expect Specialized to add the bolt through for the 2012 model

Naveed, you don't need those stupid sassies. You will have a proper bike very soon. I rode Plaisir's Wolfridge which is maxxles throughout and yes there is difference in sharpness, but are you actually going to do big air with flip of tail as well as touching the tree bark for increased speed and launching off into another corner at the same time?

Not too sure about 69* headtube angle but for XC mincers it's spot on, Redman does have Stumpy and he was fast on downhills without any struggle, so you obviously set for good. Spesh usually come on a smaller side of sizes, guess XXL is your boat. Travel wise, sooner or later you will need it all !!! A proper XC-AM bike you chose.

Dubcat, trails in Redlands tend to lean into aggresive XC. Ask the gang if you really want to be shown around ... those trails do serve people justice.

I roughly know the way. thel33ter probably remembers it better.

Can all be taken slower, though there's the off camber into steep run where Helter bust his bike which is good for claiming victims :D (I have yet to make it down without walking, though walking is probably more tricky!).

Next to Ranmore, Redlands is probably the best bit.

Not sure if anything's been arranged for Sunday, but if we can get away from thel33ter's parade early enough would like to do something - a few hours at Redlands?

I'm probably going to do earlier than afternoon as I've worked a LOT recently so I need some family time. Will prob do Leith and Redlands (guess I'll park in Coldharbour).

In other shocking news, finally fixed that slow puncture after a year :) Now I just need to find somewhere with a Felt F5 I can sit on to complete the tasks for the day.
  • Hi Gents,

I'd be up for a ride tomorrow , if you decide on one .

I'll need a postcode or something I can find on google maps when you decide.

Deadkenny , pleasant morning in Swinley , nice crowd , I can see that being a regularish
    one for me.

Guess it's down to what time cooldad & thel33ter can make it.

Yeah, Swinley was good. Surprisingly good conditions still despite the recent rain. Good pace, nice chaps from MTBB :D, and again some new routes to me. Always good to ride with someone different who knows alternate routes.

It should be finished by eleven, so somewhere between 1 and 2 would be ok.

Maybe meet at the crossroads round by Coldharbour? It's up Coldharbour Lane just up from The Plough pub (not to be confused with The Plough Inn which is nearby), RH5 6HD is the postcode for the pub. The crossroads are round the corner a bit...

    or...

Theres enough space for 5-6 cars using both sides of the road.

@DK - I pretty much remember the route that we did with Popstar a while ago, so I'll try take us around that again.
