Behold and pay a very good attention to Popstar. May me represent one of the bestest and finestest movies to date, in all honesty I threw all I could at. Yet with Buckaroo help ( music wise ) the movie became complete in record times !

Sit back and enjoy Bank holiday with Sunday Warriors part2 HD. The bestedness in its own form, even if not.

Quality movie. Sound advice, but today I wouldn't commit to drops Richard showed me. Even they did look so easy performed by him, I guess need to practise more on that push technique. Still working on myself to cement basic core skills, it's difficult to ride without single mistake but I am getting there. Hope my legs could pedal as fast as I wanted them to accelerate out of corners. Vision is most difficult part though, still forcing myself to do it :? .

Funnily enough some of trails on group rides are gnarlier than those drops, it must be the mental block of the likes of Cwmcarn DH steep drops and the likes. Jedi's place for practising is like going to heaven on holidays. After visit though, there is no mental block whatsoever :? . Must be magic.

Love it! Like the picture-in-picture bits too.

@supra-man - Wow! Must go now, even if I don't do Megavalanche I'd like to go there anywhere on the bike. Looks totally different in the summer. Not sure my arms would last though!

I quite fancy the mega next year or maybe one of the Italian superenduros (or both but that depends on money/time/how indulgent my wife is feeling). The thing about drops is I know it's mental but I've still not managed to get over myself. That said, for now, it's not limiting my riding.
  • I have a similar prob with drops. Though in the alps none. I d just find my flow and good speed. And would nt even notice them. My focus was catching tp others not the trail.
Jedi brilliant video simple and clear. Crash and loss of concentration makes sense.;-)

  • Great Vid popstar I love it. Music choice is cool. and having front and rear vision great idea.... the photos inside a brilliant. I think skyline is the only bit missing.
    :D

Hmm I seem to collect bad luck lately...

Just discovered my 5th element shock cant be serviced any more... as the company went bust.... and lack of spares... and no one does them in the UK anymore
and last time i rode afan.. it was sticking and couldnt get any pressure in...

so either a DHX air specialized advise it. or find an old DHX5 coil, or tftuned offer a pushed van RC Tuned to my weight and riding style.

You guys have any ideas or experience. damm i was hoping to get some feed back on the dhx air earlier.

Surely the seals etc would be standard so if you can get the manual you should be able to get spares from any random company that sells engineering bits (car parts places too probably).

In terms of replacement... get the lightest you can I'd say.

    Great video but

    1) riding over all those rocks at beginning - scary! (i am visualising myself with broken bones)
    2) riding at those high speeds down the hill - scary! (i am visualising myself with broken bones)
    3) riding over skinny little wooden tracks/bridges with no sides and drops to fall in to - scary! (i am visualising myself with broken bones)

    :(

    You forgot:

4 - Popstar makes you ride the same bit repeatedly until he gets his shot. His shot in this case is you falling off and breaking some bones.

I thought the same till I did it!... Its surprisingly easy! As long as your head says "Its single track... its single track..." you flow. Plus it curves and ramps to make turning easier. Plus at Afan its flat both sides, way less fear of falling... single track has a tendency to be quite 'slopey' on one side.... :?

you dont HAVE to ride those speeds... I didnt (but in my head I was... )

Buckaroo - proper Sunday Warrior, good man.

Dubcat cycling is easy. It's the same as if you were cycling on canal towpaths with few obstacles thrown in. I would even suggest that cycling on canal towpaths is more dangerous since those walkers can push you into the canal.

Plaisir thought exactly the same, until we went to ride DH. Since then he doesn't venture into canal rides.

If you struggle, definately would recommend geting a skills course. There are some numbers who wants to team up for skills course but myself don't understand why they haven't done yet. It's the bestest upgrade you could ever make. Trust me.

I'll be happy to take care of the Marin  Have a look at a second hand Specialized Bighit, they seem to go dirt cheap.

@Supraman - Wait for Richard to show up, he's been riding a DHX Air for a while.

  • Just a heads up, if you're planning to ride the Surrey Hills next Sunday, that it's the Peaslake Trailquest thing on Sunday morning http://www.peaslakemtbo.com/

As for the fella who wore SPDs on his first ride offroad...you're a braver man than me!. I've been riding SPDs for about 6 months now after years on flats. Great for pedaling, great on bumpy downhills, bunny hops etc but I have at least 1 "SPD moment" per ride and there's some stuff I just wouldn't attempt clipped in. Swings and roundabouts and all that...

SX with triple clamp??? you know the sx is a beefed up enduro? and isnt made for more than 170mm. The big hit will take the triple easy and alot cheaper.

we are going to have to see your new DH skills... :D So when do we get a demo??

An SX trail will take a 200mm Zocchi 888 cause they are pretty short, or some Rockshox Boxxer Rides (Apparently utterly useless too) like this one.

Cheers for the heads up. I remember there were adverts up for it a while back but forgot when it was.

Maybe less busy around Leith way but then they mention Leith too. Looking at the times they might be done by the afternoon.

Talking of towpaths, doing the stuff Sunday morning part of the route went along a towpath and we found a nice drop off that's been built that drops from the bank straight onto the path. Mess it up you're right into the canal :D

Anyway, Dubcat, don't worry. If you see the rest of us in Popstar's Afan vid, we're going along gingerly. Besides, everything there is rollable and there are easier lines to take around the narly looking rocks. The "northshore" is not so bad. It's fairly wide there and the drop to the ground off the sides are actually small. Usually just a foot out and worst that can happen is you get a wet foot... ah but you're in SPDs so... :D
  • Me and a friend met Popstar this weekned at Afan who pointed me to this thred. I live in Watford and have been frequenting Surry Hills a fair bit this year with some local mates. I'll be sure to keep tabs on this thred for the future rides!
  • @ Milfredo... Hey mate, (I'm the other one... draggin his heels on the shiny new Cube...). Good to meet ya.

Anyone up for SH or Swinley tomorrow after work? Found my offroad lights again.

    Cheers
  • I may be out at Swinley Wed but unlikely to be there past 7/7.30, no lights for me.

Gaggin to get out for a ride but "The Claw" damage caused by friday's Afan adventure is still sore, may be pretty light on the downhills till its back to strength... rough!

  • A big thanks to Popstar for taking me to Redhill area in Surrey. A bit too much for my downhill skills but definitely an experience to take. :) For some reason XC in UK is DH in FIN :)

Maybe next time some more epic kind of flat land cycling.. Girls trip you know. :)

    Big thumbs up.
