    Anyone Surrey/SW London/W London need a lift?

If you've got space I'll grab a lift. No worries though if someone else has more priority (e.g. they have little/no transport! :D), I'm happy to drive myself. Or I can give a lift to someone also if they don't mind the bike in the back of the car (no bike rack).

We can squeeze two bikes into my polo I'm sure and you're only just off the m25 so it's easy to get you.

I can do two people in my car including me as my rack would only take one bike. If Popstar is stuck, I could pick him up and DK could drive himself of course.

Thanks for offer, my car is sorted now. Didn't have to worry about it really. Waiting for Supra to decide if he fancies to come with me or on his own in his stylish M-Power car.

Those 4X in AH look like Cwmcarn's -Airstream area and second part of Y Mynyydd, Bungalistic doesn't sleep well these nights I am sure. Not sure if you really can justify full face helmet there, but some sort of lid is required. Only joking, I know DKenny hisses infront of screen allready cursing me.

Right, this weeks been manic looking at frames, sending them back and organising parts but I think I'm almost there. Am off to Nirvana cycles in Westcott, Surrey to test one of the mmmBop's on Saturday at 10am. Anyone fancy a blast round?

Ohh man, its such a shame carbon456 didnt suit you, -Rad mmbop- is the way to fix your mad style riding, steel -blue pig- may be a lil comfier but trying razor sharp big hit style mmbop is a must. Dont kill yourself, ... BKB for sharpness-harshness and YogPots for feeling headtube angles of that frame, there is not far away (literally to the right side) from YogPots steepish fast blast downhill too. Telegraph Road is for lil ladies but not testing the bike though. Those trails don't require some labouring climbs too, really rewarding sessioning down there. 1st part of Summer Lighting in 2 versions would give some good idea of how bike feels too, and thats Leith hill.

Wish I could join you, ... but it's only Sunday for me this time. Maybe Cooldad Co will be around there doing retro ride or something.

Might be able to do a local Saturday ride.

Maybe you should try the same route and see if the bike survives the tree this time. If it doesn't break, all good :D

Nah, steel should be fine for anything. More comfy too!

Also, like Popstar, Sunday only for me as I've got stuff to do (gardening, drinking that sort of thing)

Yeah give them a call on 01306 740 300 to see if they've got them made up for demo, they'll book you in, £30 for the day, which they'll knock off the price if you buy it. Simples!!

The Duster was steel and a beauty to ride, made the ride's to work luvly and the times when I was too lazy or tired to stand when it got bumpy off road bearable. The blue pig is heavier than the Charge, which wasn't the lightest of beasts so that put me off.

Let's put a vote out, who rides steel and who’s on aluminium?

All mine are alloy of some type or other. If I replace the HT frame I'll go for steel and quite possibly either a bluepig or an onone 456 or summer season.
  • I've got an aluminium Meta 552 but I'm building a steel 456 summer season as my HT option. Aluminium's fine if you've got suspension both ends but I definitely prefer steel for a HT.

DKenny = evil. Don't see any other way Helter doing the same mistake again. But this kind of steepish downhill is really good to test Geo of the bike and see how it feels compared to XC.

Alu = will shake all s@@t out of you on longish rides, but gives sharper feel. Steel blue pig will be more forgiving with that thwang and allow to ride epic rides with some brains left in head. Alu for FS, Steel for HT. At least if hardrock dies or something mysterious happens to it, on my list there would be either Carbon456 or the lightest in its class in all of the world -Blue Pig. People like Bungalistic most certainly will preffer Alu, but then the guy into freeride fast'n'furious type riding.

Or try use General forums for proper war trolling which to go for, that would be a heated topic, and some of people will chop your head for refusing carbon456.

Would the Blue Pig at 5.6lbs not be a bit of a slog up those steep climbs Popstar likes to take us on?

Blue Pig is the lightest AM steel frame you can get. Redlands and then Leith hill are the closest to Nirvana, so you actually can ride the same rad trails and nail them so easy this time, cos AM geo is magic. Charge was compromised there really, thats why it gave up a ghost into a tree  .

On a serious note though, its all about feeling when you ride it on the edge. Don't buy Froggy or Fritzz you may be very tempted. Supraman is evil.

no I can climb them on the enduro that is probably the heaviest of all.
and in alps version id give it 17 kg with DH tires.

your legs and lungs will suffer at first , but then no need to go to gym.
just get good forks, with travel adjust or lock out.
lyricks with flood gate goes nearly every where in full travel.

Ill give em a call early in the morning at Nirvana..

Popstar I am seriously thinking of these beasts lol. Froggy is too much though. or its a full rebuild of the enduro for next year probably with an RS vivid air shock or a coil. and a proper set of wheels. hard riding in alps breaks stuff lol

Im evil.... hmm you will be tempted by the spicy thats why..... dont hide it.

Looks like down Logmore Lane and hit Coldharbour Lane. Don't know if there's a more interesting off road route.

Talking of Redlands. Further right still, across the A24 there's Holmwood Common. Looks like the kind of place that would have some more stuff to explore. Though there seems to be some posh looking houses actually in (or very nearly in) the common, so maybe it's not accessible.

@Helter - Me + Cooldad can join you on Saturday but Cooldad would very much prefer not doing Redlands as his ribs are still fixing, and he wants to be able to go down hills for our epic 5 day Wales trip. Holmbury Common or Leith sound good though.

Does anyone know where this is? according to the Nirvana website its somewhere on Mangrove Alley?

@Popstar - Wouldn't camera angle just film the back of your leg

Isn't that the bit where the northshore has now been removed? Maybe the bit where we went down and it didn't seem to go anywhere due to obstructions.

    Doesn't entirely look stable!

Surprised Nirvana publish it as I thought all that area was a bit sensitive with locals or the landowner.

thats mangrove alley. it was there 3 weeks ago as i got simon from nirvana back across it.

i cant do aston sundays as i always ride herts shore then. you are welcome there of course

Jedi - You sure? Is it after the first climb up and subsequent descent as that's the only bit I've not ridden (due to advice from our guide about pissing off the land owners). I know there's a log-ladder after the first down, but it's flat rather than sloped like the above.

As for herts shore, I've seen your pictures and I think I need a weekend at Esher before trying anything that tall :)

Speaking of which, we do need a group outing at Esher shore.

Both ways... hmmm... will have to try that. So yeah, is it on the "second" descent (so after the fallen tree, the swamp and the climb etc)?

yeah. you go over a wooden ladder thing first. i know there a little drop over a tree too
