Now the weather is going to improve (being sept) I'm thinking of taking a day off for a trip to Afan to ride the W2. Anyone interested? Would be a mid week trip.

  • Good morning everyone,
This saturday two noobs ( me and my friend ) are planning to go somewhere from central london.
Now that's the point. we use to ride on the road which is ok for the beginning but now we are looking for some nice trails around london. i've heard surrey hills would be a nice place to ride but we don't even know how to get there and if we are allowed to take the bike on the train.
Any tips ? anyone free who is planning to ride ( it doesn't matter where ) we could join ?

Where are you coming from? If you search for Martins Heron you should find tips in this thread on how to get out of London to Swinley and Surrey Hills.

  • thank you Ben i will have a look for it. We live in east acton ( near hammersmith ) but we can easly ride to central london to catch any train going over there.

From hammer smith I suspect getting richmond and getting the train to martins heron for Swinley is the easiest.

Apologies for the mangled post - iphone! As I was saying, the Waterloo > Reading line is the best for you I suspect. Stops various places in london for you to pick up from - you might be able to overground to Richmond/Twickenham/Clapham and change. No worries taking bikes on the trains out of waterloo, and I am guessing you'll not be Mon>Fri before 10 back into london, so no worries back. Martin's Heron is about 1 mile from Swinley Forest. Worth posting on here or the London Calling facebook group before you ride though, as getting round Swinley is a challenge if you've not been there before.

Good rides today - Minley was great, the singletrack there is properly sweet. Why dont we ride there more often/ever? Also good to meet Jameister... Even if I did nearly kill him (sorry).

Ride there quite a bit, generally don't see many people out and about, let me know next time you go.

@ benpinnick I'm heading to Afan tomorrow, W2 and Skyline then heading to Cwmcarn on Sunday. Take a look at http://www.afanforestpark.co.uk/default.aspx?page=6486 to check out the diversions in place (as of only last week :-( ).
Will let you know how it is.
  • Where would be the best place to park for minley manor?

    http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk ... nked-p/map

If you look at the map, where the A327 leaves the A30 there is a roundabout at the junction with Minley Road, you can normally park there(just don't block the gate).
    Hope this helps
