Personally the only thing I'd do the right hand one on/in is a Zorb.

I've never seen it done on a hardtail, but sure some heroic type has.

I'm defo not a heroic type!

I do enjoy the buzz of testing myself though. I'll probably leave that drop until I've got something a bit bouncier to land on.

Ones about 3-4ft. The others pretty much 6.5ft. Could easily fly over a 6ft person standing under the lip of it.

I think I'm reffering to the 3 - 4ft drop in that case. I don't remember the one I was looking at being 6 1/2ft but it was a while ago since I was last there.

Page back and find a thel33ter post - in his sig the link 05 spesh enduro expert I think is the bigger one. Looks a lot bigger from the top. Probably a good 6 foot slightly more, I can stand on the flat and it's above my head.
Nice tree halfway down the landing slope as well.

That is the drop I mean, still doesn't look a 6 1/2ft drop to me, maybe 5? Anyway it's big enough!
  • I can stand under the drop and jump up and down and i cant see over it. I'm 5ft 9. I also cant jump very high.

Fair enough! That's actually quite big then, the ones I was doing when I was away were smaller than that, probably similar to the 3 - 4ft one. Has anyone got a pic of that one?

The one on the left is fine on a hard tail, at least according to people who have the balls* to do drops.

http://vimeo.com/19895799 - bungalistic riding it. Though fork was done for as you can hear.

http://vimeo.com/19895823 - thel33ter on enduro. He proceeded to do the bigger one on the right also, but I didn't get a shot of that.

    * - moving on to the other set of drops further on I of course thought I did, and failed. Similar height to the "one on the left" here, but landing on my head :D

    Those are the ones :D

I'm going to stick to the smaller one on my current set up. Looking at Rock Shox Relevation forks for the front but no idea what I should get framewise to complete the full sus upgrade. Won't be for a while anyway...

Does anyone have any experience of rock shox revelations?

You could do worse than to take a look in benpinnicks sig. I see he's selling a Stumpie FSR frame and bits. Nice bikes, and pretty much perfect for a combination of ggnarly XC and not too suicidal AM.
And I know he looks after his stuff nicely.

Concussion, loss of memory for nearly two days and two fractured vertebrae. Amongst scrapes and bruised everything.

Though loss of memory is fairly normal for me :)

Been three months now and basically healed, back on the bike. Just a few little back aches here and there but not when riding so that's fine.

Just been back to the hospital today for final sign off. Grabbed one the scans they did. Can't say I can see the break, but it's T6 and T7 if you know your anatomy. Basically one bit of vertebrae is squashed down and if it was a clearer shot there are little fractures. Or something along those lines.

Sure they had a better one last time I was there, and they also did a brain scan but didn't get that one. Gone missing, like my brain.

Christ! What a nightmare! I'm glad you're okay now. Why did you crash do you think? Did you hit something or bail or was it just bad luck?

Think the main reason was doing something totally idiotic. I can't do drops that size! I don't know what I'm doing at all with drops. I can only do small ones because I basically roll off them and don't crash.

Went back to see it and just thought "what the hell was I thinking!", and still don't know why on earth I tried it. Last bit of memory was just arriving at the drops.

Technically though I'm sure it was just a total failure to get the balance right, and went sailing over nose down, head first.

You went over the handle bars on the landing!? Probably best you don't remember it! Sounds terrifying.

No that's a different place, now known as Tim's Drop, near the clubhouse.

If you are coming up the Wall, off to the left just before you get to the clubhouse (the start of the little downhill runs.)

I think I know where you mean, I'll have a look next time I'm at Swinley. When are you guys going next? I work a lot of weekends at short notice so I find it hard to guarantee when I can and can't do things unfortunately.

Just keep an eye on the forum here, between all the random cr4p, most weekends somewhere.
Think some people are also planning a ride one afternoon/evening next week at Swinley.
4pm Wednesday, pity some of us have jobs.
