Yep. There won't be anything too taxing but I'd quite like to session some of the trails off the top of the hill and "Tims trail" but not all morning or anything

Corkscrew and seagul is very good trail to start with, and -new trail- is the bestest warm up for cornering techniques. Surrey Hills with DH type trails are bestest link towards Labirynth trails. You must not session anything as Pure XC-ing will serve you best. But I admit bestest fun to be had in Surrey Hills area.

PaddyB welcome to forums, I personally don't know half of all these riders posting here. So many new people ... must be a good sign. And here is a little eye candy.

Last week we did a decent route can't remember name, start of whole 9 yards, satans grotto, seagull, stickler, tank traps, jump gully, scenic bit over the fence which misses out the wall (much better) to clubhouse to play on little downhills and Tim's drop.
So far me, Atz, paddyb, MTBcrazy and I'm sure DK as well.
@Popstar - you'd meet new people if you got off your butt.

popstar you have to come out riding soon!! cooldad, really enjoyed last weeks ride. stickler and deerhunter are my favourites so far. love the berms and the smoothness. though saying that i could do with much more practise on the rootier bits at surrey hills.

The full route (if you want to do it again is):

We missed a couple of bits, and this route is missing an extra bit I now like, which is to turn left after the exit of tank traps, left again, right at the next fireroad and then down F9Y to the manhole. Contrary to what I said on the day, it was Watson's wander, not F9Y to Satans Grotto, my mind is going :?

One bit I haven't done is that little one at the side of the fireroad just after Seagul (or before depending on direction), called Tern? Not sure it's worth it though.

Nice loop. Often like to go out to Corkscrew as well and then back via Satans Grotto (Toe Mangler)

F9Y/W9Y I've never quite know what bits people call that. I tend to do what's marked as Watson's Wander all the way to the manhole by the jump gully and called that W9Y myself. Makes one big long trail.

Tern is ok, I only added it in as the loop was a little short, its not amazing, but at least its natural, which most of the trails on the loop aren't any more. There are bits of trail on the left hand side from LSP to USP. If that could be made into a full length trail then tern would be a nice loop from LSP to USP and back which would be better.

I like the idea of adding in Corkscrew, and maybe some of Waterloo etc.... problem with that is that this trail is pretty easy to follow, once you get into Crowthorne wood its very easy to get totally lost.

I also now add in NE Switchbacks for a warm up. You can always take Tim's Trail rather than the Drop Zone if you want to cut out the wall too.

I think if I re-did it with these additions I could stretch it to a 13mile loop, which would be respectable in Swinley. Now I have figured out how to get Trails App to map to 5yrd waypoints perhaps I will go and GPX the full route. This is the old stickler too so that needs redoing. Maybe I will do that weekend after next if anyones up for the big loop?

Few of the longer Swinley loops I've done, but covering the usual stuff. Barely done much over the fence.

  • I have never really found much over the fence. Only fire roads featuring steep ups and short sharp downs. Some nice big open spaces too.
Once, over the fence, on a mid-week ride. I rode through a group of squadies in full camo hidden in the long grass's. Didnt even notice them till the last second when i noticed a gun catch the light. Scared the be-jesus out of me. Must of been playing war games.
    I dont go there anymore.

Haven't done much over the fence except a fireroad pootle with DK after his accident, but there is the little pumptrack and bits around there. Ben's bit up to clubhouse was a lot more fun than the fireroads and the wall bit.

I'd be game for doing the big loop. Maybe less pauses between trails, more speed. A little more hardcore. Altho I probably still would avoid a few of the larger drop offs.
Lately I'm thinking I need to challenge and push myself a bit more without going to the extremes of getting ghey and going down the lycra clad power ranger route.

Well if you're out Saturday, hopefully we can keep the pace going a bit. Not so much people don't enjoy it but to keep the standing around to under 50% of the ride ;)

I can live with just 49% stops.
Damon and I did it in racing snake mode on Sunday. Well racing worm anyway. Well under 2 hours.

    @Ben

What's the bit named as car crash moor?

It's the area just the other side of the (new) gate by the clubhouse. Common land I think. Often litered with burnt out bikes and cars left by the local chavs.

It's singletrack mainly, old school natural stuff, like what we used to ride before all these trail centres....

Sounds good. Maybe we can meet up for a loop on Sat morning after next? We can avoid any drops over 6 feet.

So 9am for Swinley tomorrow ?

Sunday - Surrey Hills? Maybe not via Ranmore as the rain we've had will take weeks to dry out the soggy clay. Not that Swinley will be too good either.

To summarise epic stories from Mega, Navid injured chopped his legs off before start, Supra got whooped by DH bastid and broke arm, Popstar crashed in Cwmcarn since then no one has ever seen him, Adrian rubbed his obvious on rocks but thankfully survived to carry on -London Calling- flag. Ian from DH group was compehensively demolished by XC boy Supra so indication to the best path to Ministry of Radness is quite clear = XC FTW!
