People wanting to bunny hop is fair enough, I just wouldn't want to spend an hour of my coaching money learning it instead of, say, how to corner correctly. For me, that's contributed most to my riding (well that and getting more comfortable in the air) and the speed increase over the last few months.

i want to learn to bunny hop, still cant do it though! cornering is a good skill and need lots of practise at that too. dead kenny, saw that vid on facebook! haha.

Atz, surely on trails youve had bits that it would be useful to be able to hop over rather than have the bike lose momentum cos the back wheel doesnt jump the log? thats the main reason for me wanting to be able to do it cos its really annoying when you lose momentum. plus i like the challenge of learning to do it lol

Loft the front over the thing, unweight the back and it comes over fine. Sure, there's an occasional log I can't get over but it's not that frequent and often isn't somewhere I could keep any speed up to clear a bike length forward.

Don't get me wrong, useful to learn, I just meant that if I was paying for half a day of coaching, it'd seem a waste to learn to bunnyhop and trackstand for a couple of hours like some coaching courses do. Mind you, maybe some people would balk at the idea of spending almost an hour learning how to link two specific types of corners together ;)

Before bunny hops, learn the 'manual' which is probably more useful. Lets you clear obstacles on the front wheel and if need be just let the rear bump over.

I don't know how to do them properly though and struggle with bigger obstacles.

Can't advise how to do them myself, and it no substitute for a course with Jedi :D, but BR has a guide...

    Manual - Part 1
    Manual - Part 2
    Manual - Part 3

Seems it works out far more useful technique than just for hoping over a log. I've kind of done it automatically on small drop offs, though guess I failed utterly in the big drop I crashed on (amongst many other things I did wrong, one of which being attempting it in the first place!).

That was my advice as a whole - learn to clear things by lifting front wheel and unweighting rear, then move on to bunny hopping as a natural progression. Most of the time we spent looking at the riding position, and more specifically the 'attack' position. Having confidence in your riding through proper control of the bike is far more important than specific trick skills.

That said, we did have a 2 hour session on Switzerland Squeakers.

That's kind of what I meant. The push/unweight is used so often that you probably don't realise when it's being done most of the time and not using it at all slows you down and frequently ends up in crashes because you can't miss things the bike can carry you over.

On to happier things; who's going where this weekend?

im hetting better slowly at the attack position, was good to practise last night when i went out for a ride after work. if i was paying for training i wouldnt want to spend the money on an hours worth of bunny hopping either, im just always wanting to learn stuff when it comes to biking and to have fun too :)

corners are getting more fun to ride now, the thought of doing them before scared me loads, now not so much cos ive had more practise. berms arent half as scary as they were

swinley saturday for this weekend, sunday im working..... again.

I came out of Stickler bunnyhopped her stick and went into Tank Traps without stopping and she started hollering 'You cant do that etc' behind me.
    Grumpy cow.

ThePriory you are my best friend ! If I had known all that shizz going on around deff would skid into that stick sideways and sprint off !

Hooligans FTW. But anyways I think "Cow" thought of the likes of us as an arseh-es. Don't blame her really. APPROACH - LIFT OFF- PUSH - FOLLOW - CLEAR. RAWRRR!

    p.s. I get horny.

I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though

No, you'd skid into it sideways and have a massive crash :)

Bears you say? Jens uses bears in his TdF strategy (about 30 secs in)

Paddyb - Ready to ride, 9am Go Ape carpark Bracknell. Strictly speaking you need a pass but nobody will ask you for it. The money goes towards maintenance and insurance though so consider buying online (either the day pass or the annual pass). Cooldad will be the one smoking like a chimney on a Kona (should that be smoking like a volcano then?), I'll be on a not so shiny any more red mondraker.
