    Cool thanks.

Found a few little bits and pieces I hadn't seen before but all fairly small, but also found the entrance to the unsanctioned trail in the middle that was demolished with a sign up explaining it. Not sure how big it was, but saw various things along the ridge which look like either just forestry work or the trail that was. If it was the trail they'd done a serious amount of building. Looked like trees cut down too, but maybe that was the forestry stuff.

I can understand why people want to build, but seriously, Hurtwood and the ranger support MTB and all it takes is to ask first and get a sanctioned trail built. Or get involved with sorting out BKB which needs repairs now (yeah, I ended up finishing on BKB even though I know I probably shouldn't, but just did it from the latter section. Still got a bit of speed up on the berms).

The stuff you can see is what the Ranger did to destroy the trail using a digger to gouge big pits and move forestry debris across the trail. Got some pics here.

Cheers for that. Was the bit I saw then. It's an area I've much neglected as Holmbury is generally a bit dull other than Yogs, Telegraph and BKB, plus stuff going off the side. I'd not even known this was there until I'd heard about it being put beyond use. Shame I didn't get to give it a go, but I agree with them having to do it.

Few of the things over Winterfold way have been scrapped either intentionally or unintentionally too. I think it's the latter as you don't find out until you're already part down them

[ideal world]Build up a few jumps and shore over the stuff and it'll be a fantastic trail again.[/ideal world]

The switchbacks trail over in Winterfold has been destroyed, but MBR and the other one with the Drop of Many Faceplants are both still ok.

Winterfold destructions are intentional methinks. Shame though! Getting onto the fireroad from what was the trail with the switchbacks is a bugger!

And as the switchbacks are blocked with logs, an annoying bugger.

I got half way down it before I realised the blockages were terminal not just a quick hop over a few branches. Took me a further 10 mins to carry down the rest of it.

Think the Winterfold ones are on private land areas, not under the Hurtwood ?

Those kind are sneaky ones that would never get permission anyway and just being there is sneaky. Not too many people go there though. Suppose with the Holmbury one they thought the same but sounds like it was a bit obvious and involved large scale digging, and I'd say more people walk and ride there. Not to mention there used to be a bunch of medieval nuts wandering around with swords some while back as I discovered a few times!

Yep, it's all owned by Jim McAllister, hence saying it's not accidental if trails get blocked!

So you're out riding tomorrow you mean?

I could be available evenings, maybe around 6pm. All dependent on getting out the office before some big fuss kicks off as often happens.

Pootling again for me, though think I could tackle much of the singletrack around Swinley and may be able to keep up. Just avoiding anything too risky. Even "left left" (Dearstalker 1?) should be okay if I just roll it all, and labyrinth.

Same even with Surrey Hills. I feel like BKB, Telegraph and Yogs should be fine, though I still need to get it into my head not to push it though.

Yes out tomorrow but during the day until latest about 3.30/4.

Will have Sat afternoon and Sunday anytime though if you want to organise something.
Thel33ter won't be here so pootling will be ok.

Some suggestion on FB for a Saturday SH session at 10am.

I think I can come along and attempt to keep up, and just avoid anything that I shouldn't be risking (doctors orders and all that), so might see me off on a fireroad or the chicken run whilst people enjoy the gnarly bits, and will see how it goes.

Am avoiding the pub tonight in the hope of finally making it out tomorrow. On the off chance I cave to the pressure of the pints, can one of those going PM me your number just in case so I can send a text to let you know?

Possible Tunnel Hill ride going on with the MTB Britain folk tomorrow, similar to one we did before earlier in the year. Will see how I go today and might be interested tomorrow.

    Hey everybody, two things.

    One, is anyone around Sunday?

Two, the forestry commission is backing a plan to make a trail centre type thing in Alice Holt forest, so it'd be great if you can sign the petition for it to go ahead.

Loads of tree cover in Swinley (reminder folks - 1pm meet tomorrow at Go Ape)

Been there when it's been chucking it down and haven't got that wet. Even been there in a thunderstorm which probably wasn't such a good idea!

Unless you're one of those who likes the wind swept open areas over the fence.

Seen the Alice Holt thing too. Nice idea as Alice Holt is mainly just a place for families and kids to ride around very very flat and simple paths. That said there's mention of unofficial stuff around but I never found any.

Though they need to sort out their parking charges!

Sunday - will see what's going on and how knackered I am. Maj on MTBB has a Tunnel Hill ride going I think.

haha... yeah right. When I went with Will and Pieman my shoes took days to dry out, I ruined two sets of pads and I was soaked to the skin (well, bottom half, had waterproof top). Don't mind riding in the rain, just seems retarded to start riding when it's raining :)

Agreed but according to BBC the weather will be worse on Sunday, so best play it by ear.
Weird that we will ride all through winter, wind snow and hail, but getting stressed about a few showers.
Still on for Sat, how about a provisional plan for Sunday and if the world comes to an end we'll worry about it then..
