More BSOs!

hehe, it looks like it was made out of the parts thrown away by a stage lighting company!0
-
Not quite in the same league as Sonic's but how's about this for a curiously over-thought thing?
Or this rather bizarre looking Mongoose?
Or, triple clamp forks on a hardtail. hmm. Stupid idea... UNLESS THEY HAVE 75MM TRAVEL!

A classic example of over (and under, in the last example) engineering.0
-
Here's another curiosity, from Huffy this time.
I particularly like how the forks look to have less suspension than yur average pneumatic tyre provides, yet the handlebars are about as high as on a 200mm travel DH bike!0 -
Indeed, Huffy do seem to like to produce a peculiar breed of mountain bike, the chainring on your last example is pretty darn large as well.0
-
And this thing, seems to have used more Aluminuim than the UK Aircraft industry to build this frame...
But THIS... is the best I could find! It's just so very very ... strange!
but hey, it must be good because it costs over £200 quid! :shock:0 -
I challenge you lot to post a pic of a bike you have drawn and it has to be a full SS bike ..0

Why is it that I find bikes so much more interesting than cars?0

-
possibly so, lets just hope bikes don't go the same way...0

Some people might like this, so i apologize in advance
Personally I think it looks like a dogs dinner (with a polo mint in the middle).0 -
Apologies for the last specimen, it wasn't a true BSO, however this is.0 -
Syrinx wrote:What constitutes a classic? Surely a classic is a tried and tested design which will be used as a standard for others to aspire to? The peculiarities which I have posted have obviously not become an industry standard for blatantly apparent reasons, e.g. they wouldn't work on the trails in reality.
A design classic would be something that maybe didn't work, but was very cool and innovative. A BSO however is dull and rubbish.
Take that monstrous pace thing with air cans front and rear to do both sets of suspension via linkages.
Other design classics would be the iso-truss frames and that jones Ti bike with no suspension at all.0 -

I wouldn't trust this to ride from bed to the bathroom...
Blimey! That 'downtube' is different, that's for sure.
It looks like 3mm cable, which would equate to a min. breaking load of approx. 70kN depending on the cable construction, with a SWL of approx. 0.28kN. I'd prefer a larger dia. cable though.
I'm not sure what forces would be generated in that area when rode over rough terrain, but I reckon you'd be ok from the bedroom to the bathroom though.
I have never seen a swaged cable system used in that application before. Credit for creativity!
What about this...

Jonny napalm, hercule q, not BSOs!!!!!
On the slingshot, it is sprung by the bottom bracket, so the force required is much higher to snap it.0 -

Not really a BSO considering it has BOS forks and shock, which retail for an outrageous sum that makes foxes look reasonable.
Pig ugly though!0 -
