Have you considered the Edge 2.0 fork? Dunno about cost but well favoured.

Bars/stem I was thinking Ritchey but not sure.

Thomson good choice for seatpost personally. Have no experience of 3T stuff personally.

Groupset choice - yes hard choice and same for me. Athena or Chorus, kinda depends on whether I get a good deal on groupset of not.

I can't find any dealers in the UK for the Edge fork, it's probably too pricey though anyway - Edge stuff always expensive here.

I got a Planet X Pro Road Ti Dura-Ace build around 6 weeks ago (should have waited a few weeks and saved £200 on the frame) The Sportive frame may be more to your style of riding. It will also take mudguards whereas the Pro Road will not.

I was after an all year round bike and a Ti framed build seemed to fit the bill. I looked into all different possibilities as I had a reasonable budget. The Planet X seems the best buy as you are getting a quailty frame built by Lynskey in the USofA for £799 in the KISS sale. No one else can offer that by a long way. I have no doubts however that all the other frames by the likes of Sabbath, Van Nichols, Burls etc.. are all excellent. I was torn between a Lynskey and a Sabbath as well as the PX. In the end the price and component offer of the PX won out.

I have been amazed how much of a difference my ride is from my alu Cube Agree. Miles are far easier there is no road buzz and it does feel like 'riding on a magic carpet' as some people say. I am less fatigued at the end of a ride the only downside has been that the bike has highlighted my fitness flaws.

As others here have said once you ride Ti there really is no going back.

I also liked the look of these

Here is mine (the Schwalbe Stelvios have gone as they are rubbish IMO)

Is that the Industrial Polish finish?

I think Sideways cycles can get them, they're in Alsager...

I wanted Edge wheels but failed miserably and ended up with the Zipps.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Chinese built, it's just Lynskey have such a good reputation.

Care to explain why my forks and headset are 'cheap'?

Where do PX source their forks?

To OP, Greg Roche is a member of this forum, and may butt in with his five penneth....

Well I couldn't let this one past. I complained about my headset that came with my P-X Ti Sportive as it was stiff on the left hand side and no amount of adjusting the compression bolt changed that. Somebody called me saying they were from their technical support company and their answer was that the problem was due to the cheap headset used in a quality frame. I think that says it all.

I will eventually upgrade the headset to a Chris King if I ever stop spending money on other bits and pieces.

As for the bike itself I've fallen in love with it all over again. Got a bike fitting done in March on my carbon bike and because it was now so comfortable the P-X got rather neglected. Starting using a few weeks ago and really suffered as I hadn't bother to adjust it properly as per my carbon bike setup. Spent the whole weekend sorting it and this mornings commute in was almost painless (which is considerably better than it was last week where I ached almost everywhere). So looks like only tweaking to do now.

I got a near Dura-Ace build on mine (everything except the chain and chainset - wanted compact and no compact available at that time on dura-ace). I keep thinking about swapping the complete 105 groupset off my carbon bike and putting it on the P-X and vice-versa as the lighter carbon frame would appreciate the ligther components much more. Might get round to it before I wear the Dura-Ace out with another harsh winter of riding

I think that is the satin. The ndustrial polish is the mirror like one. (I think.)

Ordering my Ti Pro Road tonight, I normally ride a 52 cm (well the Kiron Scandium is anyway and the Kona Dew Deluxe is a 54) I am only 5'7" so orering the small.

Dammit. All this talk of titanium winter bikes is making me want one!

I KNEW I should have bought that Sabbath September Greg was selling through the BR forums a couple of months back.

OK so I'm edging towards a Pro Road ti with an Alpha Q fork, but which model I'm
not sure. They do the GS-10, 20 and 30 but also the CS10, 20 and 30, is it all depending on budget or something else.

I'm sure they all great forks at the end of the day. And which retailers do Alpha Q stuff, apart from Wiggle of course.

I think Edge are too much money for too little improvement considering my budget - saying that I might buy the Edge 705 I was going to wait for now.

Yeh, the last thing you want is a crappy headset on a decent and/or winter frame, so the P-X deal @ £800 was good for me, as it's let me spec my own fork and headset.

I ordered small in the polished finish, all the frames on the P-X site look similar, perhaps they don't have a good photo of the Polished finish.

Fatbirds and Cycleswag have Alpha Q too. I'd have liked a nice Alpha Q but they are more pricey than I'd like.

Ah yes, Chris sent me two pics, one of the massive mudflap on the back of the CX bike and the Ti bike and I mixed them up in my head.

I suppose the Ti frame doesn't hold Chris back in races so it should be stiff enough for me

so there you have it, Scrumpie - buy the P-X Ti Sportive and transfer the gear from your current bike; sell the plastic frame and get a cheap single speed for the times you don't want to get the Ti dirty.

The Monday's Child is built to be stiff and you are right it is plenty stiff enough for me. although Cancellara I ain't. Not sure how the Px compares. The Monday's Child has a MASSIVE oversize section at the bottom of the seat tube.

The CX bike was used for CX for the first time this weekend, took me ages to set up for CX before the race and the ages to clean and set up for road use again afterwards. I can;t be doing that every week! Maybe I need a 2nd CX bike for when the races get REALLY muddy....

Either the Silk Road or the September from Sabbath. I went for the Silk Road because it has the shorter wheelbase of the two.

I've fitted full length guards to my Silk Road, I still run 23 tyres on it with a decent enough clearence. For once, I'm quite looking forward to winter........

    DSC_0008-1.jpg

I'd never considered the Silk Road for winter use until I saw this photo. I didn't realise there was enough clearance for full mudguards, but obviously there is! I see a plan coming on...... MWWAAAHHHHHH!!

Doing some research on other threads, I thought you claimed to have a Monday's Child?!

Yep, read back through the thread, NapD explained it. I have a Monday's Child as my race bike. It's not used for winter use though - that would just be wrong! I DO love titanium though, so a cheeky little purchase of a winter titanium steed would be cool and this thread is not helping.

    I'm getting close.

Sabbath September is what I really need for a winter hack...
Sabbath Silk Road Pro is a safe all round?
Offered a Monday's Child at a great price. Maybe too far to the race end..,

Then there's the PX Road or Sportive Frame - and my own build.

I want winter ride safety and mudguards, all year round comfort, but not to lose the racing edge totally. The winter hack with braze on's seems to limit me, and the laid back relaxed touring bikes are just a little too far from the zip of my PX SL Carbon. I need something smooth, but still racy... And buying ti just for winter seems daft so this will be a 2nd bike for when my carbon is too delicate in the spring / summer and I need a bike I can not woory too much about bashing / transporting.

    Silk Road Pro?

(to owners, whats the top tube look like? I really like the Classic horizontal style. Not sure which of the above would give me that look as it is hard to tell from pictures).

I went for the Silk Road because of the rear guard clearance on the frame, that was the deciding factor and only question I asked Greg before I bought it. I may even be able to fit a 25c tyre on the back. The Easton EC70 fork is not designed to take a mudguard, but, it fits with a 23c tyre without any fouling at all.

    Do it Chris! Do it!

I think the Silk Road Pro is worth a shot (with a set of NapD 5 star rated Crud Road Racers fitted), I even think if you bought a Sabbath the Planet X would become surplus to requirements...........

A self build from Planet X from scratch wouldn't be cost effective if you don't already have most of the kit for a build.

I'm that head whizzed I may even buy thr September for winter, and sell my PX next year for a Ti Silk Road Pro!
I'm liking the standard, horizontal top tube.

I do need something for commuting in this filthy weather of ours. Just cant face a commute on something slow after my months of the PX. Then again, it is going to be slow whatever in the dark and rain. 11 miles with a killer hill to get up and 2 x 39mph downslopes , mean you need something brisk to have fun.

Is the "toeclip overlap" a ruddy nightmare on this thing????

Looking at a titanium bike with guards and was thinking of a September, but maybe this thing is the way forward?...

I've not noticed any toe overlap, but I think I'd get it with any bike I ride due to the size being a 54cm.

So frameset (P-X + EC90 SLX + Chris King HS) cost me just less than £1050 (and that includes the £17 P-X delivery, and the Merlin £5 delivery upgrade to Parcelforce 24h express). I don't think that's too bad.
