How are we going to fix the forum? (serious)

  • I think that this thread has shown the problems at the moment. There is a small minority that repeatedly resort to personal attacks against one another (and sometimes other members) that fall on both sides of the aforementioned "Lance split".

We all know who these people are, and what I do personally is to take these people's posts more lightly than others, and don't think too deeply about what they have to say, because they will most likely say the same things in the near future.

The reason I enjoy this forum is for the people who genuinely post about subjects which interest other users, rather than those people who seem to only want to react to any post which they don't agree with.

It clearly matters to all those Armstrongites who keep on bringing it up as a supposed explanation for his unbelievable increase in ability post-cancer.

the anti-Armstrongers still bang on about the 'failed' 1999 test for corticosteroids, when in fact it was a trace amount (about 4% of the allowable amount). Both sides have their myths.
But the whole point about this 'positive' was not the amount of corticoid Armstrong had in his body, but rather the way the UCI broke their own rules in order to avoid having to sanction him.

But it wasn't a failed test - so they couldn't have sanctioned him even if they wanted.

My point wasn't whether he doped or not (he probably did), but that both sides of the internet argument use misinformation, not just one as you stated.

You nicely illustrated my point for me.

Another forum I frequent has an ignore option, I've decided to introduce this feature here. It's purely down to self discipline but there are certain people on here I just ignore. That way I don't get to see the petty ever increasingly pathetic squabbling, and rampant homophobia, that some feel the need to resort to.

Another forum I'm on had a "troll blocker" written for it. You could just create a list of trolls and you'd never see their messages. It could make things appear a bit surreal from time to time though.

Lately the forum has seemed like you can't move for mention of something getting someone out there all worked up. It's a forum so if we're going to debate people need to actually make a point rather than just going on the attack. It's supposed to be fun, isn't it?

So, if I considered someone a troll I could block his / her posts, but only from myself.
Interesting, although I could effectively do the same thing by not reading them. Then again
    I tend to read everything.

As for the getting "worked up"?? It is debate and debate gets out of hand more times than not. Politics, religion, cars, fishing, you name it and people will argue about it. Sometimes quite forcefully and shoving matches and fights can occur. Here we don't have the face to face luxury of me beating you up(or vice versa) and then saying "what do you think of my ideas now, loser", as you(or I) lie bleeding on the ground.:wink:

I am genuinely curious as to why you are so obsessed with Lance Armstrong and your one man crusade to rid the internet of Armstrong supporters.

Why do you care so much?

Amelie is the name of the film which made Audrey Tautou famous. You're just interested in her body, not her art.

You follow Lance "stuff" one h*ll of a lot closer than I do. I have never heard of anyone caring, but will concede that since you have made that claim that it holds some water and
I am uniformed. To be honest it's the first time I've ever heard this mentioned as a reason for anything. If there are people who care, so be it. Obviously not to high on my list of things to ponder but..............
  • Jeebus, it's started again... A perfectly sensible thread looking for ideas on how every chuffing thread can be prevented from descending into an Armstrong slanging match and what happens? We're discussing his weight loss and a 10 year old TUE.

Why does every thread have to be this way?

The forum's called Pro Race. How about pro racing? Who's gonna win the Vuelta?

I've tried to resist sinking to insults, but you really are overbearing and obnoxious. FFS, just learn to live and let live, and celebrate the fact that people were out on their bikes having a good time.

Bernie, I joined this site not long before the Armstrong ride took place in Glasgow. I do not know a huge amount about pro-cycling and all the scandal that has gone before it.

I enjoy going out on the bike and improving. I also really enjoyed being able to go along on that ride and found it inspirational.

I wonder if you think that me taking my Ventolin prior to riding is doping, in some ways it is a perfomance enhancer but it stops my asthma stopping me cycling.

One thing is clear to me though, you are a complete and utter twat

    Because they enjoyed it.

Now why have you been posting the same old stuff ad nauseum since the C+ forum days (four or five years)?

In the eyes of the UCI and WADA it is, Romain Feillu was busted last year in the Tour for just that, and Alessandro Pettachi was banned for not having a TUE to go with his inhaler.

Really? I see it as a means to level the playing field and these organisations clearly dont.

An asthmatics lung efficiency is about 63%, same as a smoker. Oh well I'll just get back to doping up then

A bit strong, the poster is just some guy enjoying riding his bike that happens to need an inhaler not someone with designs on pro tour victories.

And no before anyone chirps in its really not the thin endof the wedge etc ffs

You're allowed to use ventolin as long as you have a TUE. The trouble begins when riders don't have a TUE or use more than the allowed level.

It's a whole different question whether you believe all those cyclists actually have asthma.
