Removed front brake, degreased and refitted. Trued both wheels. General clean after the snow - the bike was stinking.

I'm gutted now, between doing housework and fettling with the bike I didn't manage to do any cycling today :(

I need another bike as backup!

Hey ITB - owning a 531 has been a childhood dream. I'll take a look but I'm a bit skint at the moment, the first 3 months of the year are usually a bit lean.

Just replaced both front and rear brake pads on the commuter. Left rear was almost completely worn away  No wonder braking performance was a bit sketchy on the last couple of rides

Fitted new Toupe (what a ridiculous name for a saddle) to the roadie.

Dismantled MTB rear disc brake caliper to try to find out why it's rubbing. Lost all feeling in my fingers in the cold shed. Gave up and came in for a glass of vino instead.

A good weekend of bike fiddling:

My crosser: Cleaned, completely de-mudded and lubed ready for muddying next weekend
A friend's commuter: New brake pads and cables.
And built a pair of wheels for a test mule ;).

    :)

This wheel building thing is becoming an obsession of yours :D

I cleaned the P7 properly after a nice run in the Dales. Swapped the chain over, degreased and re-oiled everything in sight. Probably all mucky again after this mornings commute but I knew that would happen.....

The best way to learn is by doing I reckon. :D
  • Went down to the garage to get my roadracers fitted only to find bits of mould dotted around - on my lovely Flite saddle too!

By the time I'd cleaned it all up, and fitted the guards it was getting dark - still, it'll be there for Saturday.

Fitted a new computer and a saddle bag. And now can't fit my rear reflector...stupid short legs :(

Try putting the computer on the bars, should free up some space.

Most saddle bags have a strip on the back to attach lights to. I'm sure you can find a reflector with a clip. Failing that, I have one of these:

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3639

Which doubles as a rear reflector and light. Find a review of it's more expensive branded "brother", here:

Yeah I fitted my rear light to the bag. The problem is my saddle is so low that the bag is quite snug so there isn't room for my reflector as well :(

Fitting the front light (which I actually forgot to do today) is a whole other problem.

Try Minoura Space Grips, they are for handlebars but will also fit on the back, I had the same problem.

+1 for the Space Grip, they are big enough to go around the frame opposed to the seatpost.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Fitted my spd pedals, which turned out to be easier than I thought it would be :D

And also made sure my tyres were inflated, which probably isn't fettling unless you took 10 minutes because you had no idea how to use the pump (how is anyone supposed to know you turn the lock away from the valve your using).

+1 I had the same problem in the early days. Fortunately, I've discovered bike mechs are only too happy to give me advice, with actual demonstrations, where appropriate. Just as well I'm happy to embarrass myself en route to increased knowledge :)

Just fitted a new seatpost to my Focus, the old one had developed a nasty tendency to alter saddle angle mid-ride. Not good, or comfy.

Okay, I've thought about this long and hard, so that I can be sure I'm not rushing into anything and I think I shall fully clean my bike tomorrow, for the first time since I bought it. I've forgotten what colour it is...

Stripped the old Saracen RAW MTB down to the frame, moved all the parts over to my new on-one inbred frame, I always worry that i'm gonna strip the BB threads or bend the head tube - thankfully I didn't.

It's coming along nicely, just need to order some white sealed cables then shorten the hydro brake cables and it's ready to ride.

Might fit a white stem, dunno yet.

Changed the seat post, saddle and pedals back on the hybrid, now safely back in the hands of Mrs itboffin.

Yeh yeh smart arse not much use fitting one when there's no derailleurs on yet :P

I have to say it's not a light bike that's for sure, those forks weigh a ton, might well swap them for rigid carbon.

You'll love this, I was just packing away the bikes for the evening and I have a flat rear tyre on the hybrid

Sure enough an inspection revealed a thorn that had passed right through the a nobble, i'm guessing it's been working it's way through, lucky really it could have happened during a commute

I think I've fixed my chainring issue, seems the right crank had started to come loose, taken off cleaned and refitted I am once again able to select gears, now if I can just fix the chain dropping off the small sprocket

Fitted Crud Roadracers and Cateye Wireless to the new bike, the Roadracers were deceptively easier to put on than I imagined they would be.

Just need to get out and ride the thing now!

Partly cleaned the bike generally. Needs white spirit though, so more to do. Grr. Adjusted brakes.

Ought to clean the back half of the bike with baby wipes but I need cleaning first. Got to refit the lights for the commute tomorrow.

Just put some 1.3 Conti Sport Contacts on my Spesh. They look like tiny compared to the 2.4 Tubless Rubber Queens that were on her.....
