  • Sheet - hope she's OK.

When I saw your message at about 730am on sunday, I crawled back into bed, thinking I'd nab another 30mins before heading out. Ended up sleeping in till 11 before heading out locally...

    Crossing fingers for you IP.
Having had two grandparents taken by cancer (one lung, one throat), and a cousin currently recovering from skin cancer, I know how you must be feeling. Both my grandparents were caught in a very advance state and my granfather at a very advanced age, 92.

Take heart from the fact they have caught it early and given the best possible chance of recovery.

Bad news indeed, Jim. Great they caught it early, though.

Went through this when my mum was diagnosed a couple of years ago. Not a great time, but surgery and subsequent chemo/radio went fine and now she's back to her old self. Re-read "It's not about the bike". Say what you like about LA, that book is still inspiring. Chin up.

I heard he did DRUGS to cure cancer. The man's incorrigible.

Best of luck to your gran, James - it looks promising at least. Take care.

:( Best of luck to your Gran IP - at least they have caught it early so she will have a wider range of treatment options, I hope she makes a good recovery.

A friend's MIL was diagnosed with a rare blood type cancer, and given approx 6 months to live - a year or so on and she is in remission and is in good health! It always heartens me to hear stories of people coming through it.

How far are you guys intending to ride? I did the Dulwich ride today (intermediate group)and live in Surrey Quays/Deptford so it's a fair ways for me to get to the meet point but I am happy to come if it is indeed slowical. Also which cafe will you be meeting?

Not clear to me which day - saturday or sunday?

Also, what distance and expected pace are planned. I am shaking off a heavy cold so I may lie low or pootle somewhere if your plans are demanding.

  • I'm in but can I make a request that the ride starts at 9 or even 9.30am at the earliest? I have to get across from near Greenwich and an 8.30 or whatever start from Richmond would mean having to get up at some nasty, ungodly hour on a Sunday and means I'm more likely to sleep in....

I wanted to be in (though not if I was a bit too 'quite slow' for everyone else). Unfortunately, the bother with the Viner looks like it's not going to be sorted for a few more days yet, and I'd rather get some more riding time with it under my belt before something like this...and I'd definitely need the Viner to stand half a chance of keeping up with you lot, though the other two would get me up the climbs just fine.....

  • I can't make this guys. I'm juggling builders (not literally) in my flat, a new flat purchase and various other bits and pieces atm that just leave no time at all to get out - certainly not this weekend anway.
  • So can anyone actually do this weekend?

I would be up for it if it was not for two brocken ribs! Not been able to use my bike for weeks.
  • Not back in the saddle yet after my recent op. I was so up for this, but maybe it's asking a bit much so soon. I am thinking of venturing out this evening on a 1 hour tester. Will definitely be there if I feel up to it.
