Right, planning another group jaunt out into Surrey.

Not quite so slowcial

Expectations for this ride are:

1: Faster than last time - so those with time constraints can make it, earlier start too.
2: Hillier than last time - so those who've never ventured into the Surrey hills can get a "taster"
3: No pub stop, but cake @ Box Hill
4: No one gets left behind - goes without saying really

I can do this weekend actually! Otherwise 6 or 13 Sept. I'll be heading into Surrey regardless on Sunday though. This ride is not really aimed at the regular Surrey riders although you are most welcome I suspect the pace may be a bit lower than you'd like.

Let me know folks.

  • I'm up for this weekend too, otherwise has to be 13th Sept for me.
  • 13th Sept only for me if that works for the majority. Cheers for organising Jash.

I'm definately up for this type of ride, but unfortunately my availabilty is not good in the coming weeks. dagnammit.

Am away this weekend and if I can get the time off will be on holiday 6th-13th Sept.

I'll keep an eye on the thread and let you know if/when I can make it.

Jash - is that the route you sent me last year? If so, I'd like another crack at it, without getting 'misplaced' like I did on Christmas Day.

I may be able to make the 6th, on the proviso that I'm allowed to drop off the back if I'm struggling, as that weekend is sandwiched between two of my biggest running events this year.

And I'd have to walk up Crocknorth Hill

Yes! You might call it my Surrey Hills for newbies route! Took my bro round it a few weekends ago. You'd be most welcome to attend Jen.

6th/13th of september is good for me, assuming i can find a way to train it down to you as i dont fancy massive hills after a 15-20mile warm up ride! Dont mind it as a cool down on the way home though

You'll be fine. The route Jash's chosen is very reasonable. If needs be, catch a train to Norbiton and we can meet you on the way out of the Park/at Kingston Gate (assuming that's the route out :) ).

the route will be fine, but you've gotta remember im coming from the edge of the m25 at its most northern tip so ive got a hell of a trek down to where you are starting from

Interested...Would prefer 13th, 6th probably doable at a pinch but 4th/5th is my next FNRttC, so I'd prefer a lie-in on that Sunday....
How does Box Hill compare to Ditchling in regards to gradient & length? I can get up the latter OK (on the Jetstream at least, 22" gear very handy for that), so I'm assuming my new Italian missile will be up to the job- hasn't got the same low end, but less weight & the odd bit of standing will be alright.

Box is fine. It's a shade over a mile, I think, but it's not steep - one you can happily spin up.

I always assumed he wouldn't switch down to the other ring unless it was about a 20% ;-)

Seems my response to this has gone missing in the ether (might still be floating in the living room somewhere, bl00dy wireless networks!) as I hadn't had any messages for new replies to this!

My 2c's was basically I'd be interested in this one, early start and finish is better for me and looking at the route I could peel off around Worcester Park to head back from there to make it an even quicker ride!

I could possibly do the 6th if the bristol ride doesn't happen. Unfortunately I'll be doing the Southern Sportive on the 13th, and am booked up every other weekend beforehand.

I'm considering the Legs of Steel on the 26th if anyone wants to join me

This is true but you get to ride a good group normally, feed stations and it's an incentive to get a good time out of it.
