My apologies. Will add spoiler to the title.

To be fair I hadn't even watched it when I posted, I was reading the text highlights on the Tour De France live feed.

Am now watching it, Man that breakaway was awesome! Its enough to make me want a Scott Addict (though at my weight it wouldn't last long, unless I had extra carbon wraps at key points like Cav  ).

I'm learning so much about how to ride a bike simply by watching....

Glad to see Tony Martin has put all that unfortunate Norfolk business with burglars behind him and is doing so well in his new life as a bike racer... you're never too old eh?

And not a bad day for Cav (apart from forgetting to switch his phone off) and that American chappie, erm Neil Armstrong. :?

    Wow. That was great.

Contador can't not work hard in the TTT, so Armstrong gets yellow, forcing Contador to work for Armstrong. You have to admire astute raciing.

And FFS, Ronaldo's (who's not English) appearance for a Real Madrid (not an English diving team) is somehow more important for BBC Sport than Cavendish's spanking victory, as is John Terry's future.

Oh, and Brett Lee's absence from the first Test is also more significant. As is the rain in Cardiff. I'm from Cardiff! It always feckin' rains! That's not news.

Cav finally makes it in as fifth and penultimate story. Sweet Christ.

So, what do we reckon on him wearing green in Paris? Luck's been on his side so far, the big sprinters missed out yesterday thanks to the crash, and missed out on the breakaway today.

See, that's what age does for you <taps side of head knowingly>. There are some compensations, as you'll soon discover. :) It takes something special to make Cav's second stage win the backdrop.

Why on earth do we have to be subjected to football (non) stories in July

Shame about Brett Lee though - it would really be better if the Aussies don't have a ready made excuse if they get rolled over....

I don't think he'll be wearing green at paris, but I reckon he'll get to paris.

I think he's going to have to calm down a bit to make sure he gets over the rocky bits, then use whatever is left all the way to paris.

Just so I understand this correctly

Astana pay Armstrongs wages but he rides for Columbia?

Am I being too cynical here. When we get to the mountains will Columbia be repaying favours?

Was this a deal in advance or a combination of experience meeting opportunity.

absolutely agree, ive taken a week off work to watch the first week,i daresay its down to their lack or coverage / rights......there was slight irony in my post

as for Terry and £270k a week... i follow AFC Bournemouth and one week of his pay would keep my whole club going from May until September

The latter, I think. Columbia don't have a realistic GC guy (even the team manager agrees: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/realist ... lumbia-htc) so time gains aren't really that important, either today or tomorrow in the TTT. However LA and Cancellara were on the right side of the split: that forced other teams to chase (Evan's team did a lot of work) potentially weakening them for tomorrow's TTT. It also slightly increases Saxo's and Astana's tactical possibilities as the mountains approach. Great stuff. Contador will still rip up the race in the mountains, though ;)

Oh, LA isn't taking a wage from Astana: it's all about the cancer awareness, apparently

I would not want to swap places with the Astana domestiques right now, as the Armstrong and Contador factions roam the hotel rooms looking for support. That team is mired in internal politics and deeply split. There is no way Contador is just going to accept it and ride for Lance though. He'll go ride with the Caisse d'Epargne guys if he has to (they owe him after the helped Valverde win the Dauphin Libre) before he gives up his own chance to ride for Lance, yellow jersey or no yellow jersey.

I don't see anyone else getting a sniff of that green jersey now either. The other teams can console themselves with thoughts of being blocked by circumstances, but that doesn't change the fact Cav has two stage wins already. It's not like anyone can beat him even in a straight fight. To wrestle that jersey off him now will need him to get dropped before more than one sprint finish, and with the whole Columbia team basically focused on him, I don't see that happening enough.

Three days in, still talking only about the race. Good times.

Wow what a stage - from humdrum flat sprinters stage (sorry while appreciate the art of sprinting the art of sucking wheels gets my goat :) ) to a stage that sets up some very interesting problems for 2 teams as to who is the team leader and a stage that desimates some GC pretenders. Fantastic drama

+1. The French like him too.

Can't wait for the mountains now. :D Remember Vinokourov attacking in 2004 was it, when T-Mobile had him, Ullrich and Kloeden? No unity cost them a sniff of the yellow jersey. Makes it very difficult for the contenders though. If Contador attacks, but Armstrong has teammates around him, do they go with Contador and risk exerting themselves too much? I think they'd have to.
I don't see anyone else getting a sniff of that green jersey now either.

There's always Oscar Friere. He's shown he can make it through the mountains; Cav hasn't. I think he said that at the start of the season he was lighter because of illness and because he couldn't train, he hadn't been eating comfort food.

Comedyfail as the bikeradar photos appeared after my question and I see the front page with them on before your sarky comments.

Still looks fantastic though, are they going to release a range of the addicts with those graphics on for all us short squat cyclist who want to emulate the great Cav?

What a fantastic stage, the TdF looks like being a real hotbed of intrigue, in fighting and great cycling this year :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

What's great is that it's drawing more attention than ever before. Loads of people in my office are talking about it, not just the cyclists, and they all want to know what's happening, what's going to happen, why Cav isn't wearing the yellow jersey etc i don't know how I manage to get any work done  But what's great is that it's generating interest from everyone :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

So how much time can Astana pull out on Saxo bank in the TTT? I think they may get close to 60sec,
